(y/n) - your name
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Is it Billy again?" Nancy raises a brow as she hears honking outside her house, looking at (y/n) who looked at her sheepishly.
"Maybe..."
"He's been picking you up and dropping you off a lot lately. At school too..."
"Yeah, I don't know why either." (y/n) shrugs, packing up her stuff after a long night of studying again at Nancy's place after school. She has been studying with Nancy for the last couple of weeks almost every day and at every possible chance, finally being able to catch up with all the students for all her classes.
Nancy quickly catches (y/n) before she left, not having a good feeling. "(y/n)-"
"-Nancy, I'll be fine."
"I know but just be careful around him, please." (y/n) frowns at her words. "You know what he's like and all the rumors-"
"-are not always true. They're cheap gossip Nancy and most of them can be false. He's a good guy, really. He may not show it at school but I know he's a good guy. I have no reason to believe otherwise and so far, he hasn't given me one."
"Ok, I trust you and if you trust him, then I won't worry as much but you know I will." (y/n) chuckles as Nancy takes her downstairs.
"I know, you get worried for every little thing."
"Can you blame me?" (y/n) yells out goodbye to the Wheelers, all of them yelling back bye as well. "Also, are you coming to the Halloween party tomorrow at Tina's?"
"Oh hell yeah! I need to chill after spending this whole fucking month just catching up!" (y/n) groans out as she puts on her shoes and walks out of the house with Nancy following her. Billy was continuously honking, obviously annoyed from how long (y/n) was taking her sweet ass time. "WAIT FOR A FUCKING MINUTE MAN!" she yells out over his loud music before looking at Nancy who had her eyes wide and jaw open from the scene that took over a few seconds back. She would've thought Billy would do something but he just sits in his car.
"He-"
"-now Nancy, promise me you will speak to Steve tomorrow... about Barbara... I don't want you bottling all this up anymore." the girls had a serious talk like they did every night during their study breaks, about how Nancy felt so trapped and guilty for what happened and (y/n) being there to comfort her.
"I know... but he just says to pretend..."
"Well, you shouldn't if it's hurting you like this. Tell him that. He needs to understand your feelings about this." Nancy sighs and nods, hugging (y/n).
"You're right... thank you so much (y/n)."
"It's no problem." (y/n) squeezes Nancy back before letting her go, stepping backwards to start walking towards Billy's car. "You know you can always talk to me."
"I know (y/n), thank you."
"Also thanks for literally tutoring me in every single class!" (y/n) yells out as she runs across the street, Billy opening the door for her and she jumps in. He immediately drives off once the door closes and (y/n) scrambles to put the seatbelt on. "You could wait until I get this on ya know." Billy just smirks and (y/n) stretches in her seat, yawning out.
"You're studying later and later than usual."
"Yeah, hopefully not anymore. This whole month has been actual shit."
"Can't be all fucked. I know for a record that my presence made things so much better in this shithole." Billy says and (y/n) snorts lightly at his remark.
"If you mean crashing at my place after every fight you get yourself into and getting me to patch you up, yeah splendid." (y/n) chuckles as she looks out the open window, the wind blowing through her hair
Billy had been coming over a lot more to (y/n)'s place, always beat up with new wounds that he would never explain how he got them. He would always crawl through (y/n)'s bedroom window on the second floor instead of using her front door. He never explained why but (y/n) thought maybe he didn't want Neil to catch him going to the house across the street. Billy wanted to keep him and (y/n) a secret, he didn't want to lose his only safe house.
(y/n) didn't mind Billy staying over after she patched him up, always going into detail about how he won a fight with a random group of guys. She had set up the guest bedroom for him just in case he didn't want to go home or for nights when he was in extreme pain and couldn't move. So far, there hasn't been a major day like that and (y/n) hoped it would stay that way. But he stayed over anyway.
(y/n) and Billy would stay up long into the night, either watching TV or listening to music and reading. They would sit on the couch watching whatever movie was playing or choosing a horror flick from (y/n)'s collection while munching on popcorn. Or the two would read in (y/n)'s room with the radio playing and the both of them laying on her bed, Billy laying against her pillows and (y/n) laying on her stomach across the bed while half leaning her body off the bed to flip the pages of the book that laid on the floor.
(y/n) really enjoyed Billy's company even if it was mostly silence but it was a comfortable silence. She wasn't alone and she had someone there with her in the room. Billy doesn't stay over a lot, not enough to leave his clothes here but enough that he would wake up and have breakfast with (y/n) before taking her and Max to school in his Camaro if (y/n)'s car was left at school. (y/n) still asked Billy to drop her off away from school not wanting people to gossip about her getting out of the King's car and it was the same if he wanted to drop her off somewhere.
"Don't deny that you enjoy seeing me shirtless. You even get the privilege of touching my face."
"God Billy... the confidence..." (y/n) rolls her eyes but there was a hint of a smile that he catches as he parks in front of her house once they arrived. They both got out and Billy was careful of his surroundings, quickly getting into the house and taking his shoes off as (y/n) chucked her stuff on the side sofa.
"Movie?" Billy calls out as he sits down on the couch in front of the TV, grabbing the remote.
"Yeah!" (y/n) replies back. "Catch!" Billy looks up and easily catches the beer (y/n) threw for him before she grabbed a bottle of water and popcorn bags, walking towards the couch and plopping herself down on the other side of it. The bags sat between (y/n) and Billy as the movie played but Billy wasn't paying attention. He was paying attention to her.
Truth be told, the main reasons why he got in so many fights were not only because of his anger and Neil pissing him off but also as an excuse to see (y/n). He always was able to see her if he had something for her to patch up. They never spoke during school or outside in public areas, the only chance he had was at night as he crawled through her bedroom window. He didn't want Neil catching him and losing the one place he could feel like himself. He would always watch her, stare up at her as she cleaned the cuts on his face.
Billy wasn't surprised that (y/n) offered him the guest bedroom if he didn't want to leave, she was considerate like that and she knew he needed it. God the bedroom was nicer than his and the bed was so much more comfortable but even that luxury sometimes didn't help with escaping his nightmares.
So that's why he stayed up most of the nights chilling with (y/n) in either her bedroom reading or in the living room watching movies. The two were in the same boat, not being able to sleep at all from fear but that slowly changed for (y/n). She always tried to stay up for Billy but when he stayed over, her body let her sleep knowing she was safe with someone in the house.
Billy found it amusing to see (y/n) fall asleep in random positions, head, arms and torso half off her bed or when she fell asleep on the couch. Plus, she wasn't drinking as much or having dark moments like she did before and it was a step up in Billy's opinion. He would rather see her sleeping than drinking in the middle of the road.
Billy chuckles at (y/n)'s commentary of the movie, enjoying her jabs at the dumb characters in the movie. "Hey, I just realised we don't know a lot about each other." (y/n) says, looking over at Billy who quickly turns to look at the TV to not be caught staring at her.
"And?"
"Let's do a quiz or something."
"And why would we do that?"
"I'm bored and the movie is shit." Billy smirks and looks at (y/n) who had turned in her seat to look at him. "So favourite colour?"
Billy raises a brow at (y/n). "Really, you're gonna ask those kinds of questions?"
"Well, what do you want to know?"
"Have you had sex?" (y/n) sighs out, facepalming.
"That's an obvious no. If I never had a boyfriend what makes you think I've had sex. And are you really gonna ask those kinds of questions?" Billy chuckles, leaning back comfortably.
"Yes, it's more fun."
"I bet..." (y/n) rolls her eyes. "Ok, have you always lived here in Hawkins?"
"No, we actually moved here a couple of days before you did. Where did you move from?"
"Out of continent actually. You?"
"From California."
"I've always wanted to visit California! Especially the beaches!" Billy's smile falters at (y/n)'s remark, suddenly remembering his mother and her fondness for beaches. (y/n) notices the distant look in Billy's eyes as he turns to face the TV.
"Why did you move?" both (y/n) and Billy ask, both of them turning to each other but an uncomfortable silence fills the air. They both had reasons none of them wanted to reveal. They drop the questionnaire and turn back to watch the TV, but Billy wondered what (y/n)'s reason was for moving to a shithole like this. Some time passed and he looked over to see her fast asleep on the couch and as usual, he silently stood up to carry her up to her room to let her sleep on her bed.
