It was disastrous.
I had seen my whole family burn to smithereens. My whole town for that matter.
The roads had been cracked and homes were now just piles upon piles of rubble. There was nothing!
I had been hiding out in a little shack just outside the town; it's a bit of a long story how I ended up there but I guess I will tell you.
So, I had been playing around with my brother and his dearest friends; playing hide and seek.
My brother was it and all the rest of us hid, (you know, just like normal hide and seek.).
Well, I ran and hid in the shack as I knew that nearly no one would come looking here. I was very determined to win this round!
Anyway, I had been sitting on the wooden flooring for a while before I heard a huge bang.
That bang made me literally jump out of my own skin; it was that scary!
So, I peeked out of the small window in the cabin and saw flames.
Burning embers which were starting to increasingly engulf my little town. It kept expanding and expanding; I could hear the screams and cries of those who had unfortunately been caught by the devils lethal weapon.
I remember standing there in complete and utter shock.
The realisation slowly approaching me; my town was under attack.
The door to the cabin suddenly flung open to reveal my tense mother who then turned relaxed after seeing me.
"Come on honey, we've gotta go." She said hurriedly whilst grabbing me and throwing me out of the door.
I realised she didn't just throw me but she threw me in my fathers arms.
I heard him grunt as I lifted my weight off of him.
"Come on kiddo." My father said in the opposite tone of my mothers; he was definitely more calm and collected than my mother.
Anyway, I quickly nodded my head and followed my father.
I later realised that my brother and some of his friends had joined us. They were holding weapons which they also passed to my parents. I tried to grab one but my brother quickly yanked the weapon away from me, "you won't be needing this El."
I was too shaken up with fear that all I did was nod and followed closely behind my now armed father.
Some men came out of nowhere and I was instantly thrown to the back of our decently large group.
My mother quickly moved back towards me and pushed me behind a tree which was nowhere near the fire.
She grabbed ahold of my face and stared directly into my eyes, "listen dear and listen carefully-"
A bang shot from behind us which made me cower further into the tree. My mother forcefully made me look directly at her, "you will stay here and you will not move! Not even when the shots stop being fired and certainly not before the fire goes out."
My mother then placed a pistol in my hand, "use this for only when you are in emergencies and remember to always be brave my little angel." My mother said whilst kissing my forehead.
I was very confused at this point.
"Why must I be left alone?" I asked quietly due to my new found fear.
My mother looked at me with those apologetic eyes, "your not alone, we will fight to keep you safe. All of us will and trust me when I say that I will see to you that no harm comes to you."
Tears started to escape my eyes, "don't leave me mother, please."
She kissed my forehead again whilst wiping away my fallen tears, "don't cry my dear, just remember what I said and everything will be alright. Okay?" She asked in a sweet tone that I so dearly missed.
I slowly nodded my head whilst holding her hand.
"I gotta go sweetheart but I promise I will see you again."
And just like that she left.
I was all alone.
I did as she said though, I waited and didn't move from my place behind the tree. Even after the gunshots went off.
I suddenly heard a gunshot nearby which made me hug the pistol to my chest as I crumbled to the floor. Hot tears started to pool out of my eyes again.
I closed my eyes and thought of all the happiness I have enjoyed in this life and tried to savour every last greedily bit of it.
I somehow must have fallen asleep in my curled up position because by the time I woke back up, it was dark.
I groggily blinked a few times before slowly looking around the tree.
The fire had died down as it didn't have anything left to devour and the gunshots were nonexistent, it was way too quite for my liking.
So, I quickly grabbed my pistol and slowly walked towards town.
One step at a time, I slowly but surly made my way towards the town.
I walked around the still crumbling buildings and the cracked roads.
And that's when I heard this dark laughter which made shivers run up my spine (and it wasn't the good kind!).
I saw this yellow hue emitting from around one side of the building which I was at.
Curiosity engulfed me as I made my way closer to the yellow hue.
I peeked around the corner and saw these men in a uniform which I was unfamiliar with; and that's when I saw them.
My family!
They were tied up and I could see that they were struggling against the restraints.
I quickly whipped my head back around the corner and tried to think of a plan to help them escape.
Maybe I can Jackie chan my way through this? No, I don't have those types of skills and I'm pretty sure I would die instantly.
Maybe I could James Bond my way through this? I mean I have a gun; god no! I don't even know how to use this thing.
Oh I know, I could maybe jack sparrow my way through this? I mean I'm somewhat like the dude, he just wins by luck and a little talent and that's exactly what I have. But I haven't got a sword and I'm pretty sure my luck isn't that good; and like I said before, I'm helpless with this gun so no!
"Go burn in hell?!" I heard my mothers distinct voice seethe.
"Come on misses, where's that girl of yours that we were promised?" Some guy in the unknown uniform said.
Wait, are they talking about me?!
"Like I said, I don't know and even if I did I wouldn't tell the likes of you!" She spat out.
I then heard a slap, "well then I guess I will see you in hell!"
And just like that I heard the ear shattering screams.
I slightly peaked around the corner and saw the dudes evacuating and there stood my whole family, burning alive.
I quickly got up from my place and sprinted towards them.
"DONT?!" I heard my mother scream and then a gunshot went off.
I fell to the ground and heard cries as I felt a body thud next to me, "whatever you do, pretend you are dead." The quite voice whispered.
I complied and laid still, hoping that these men would leave.
"Boss won't be happy with you killing his trophy." I heard one man say.
"Well, she shouldn't have come to help."
I heard the dude from before sigh and then I heard retreating footsteps.
Once I couldn't hear the footsteps anymore, I slowly turned around and saw the mayor with blood flooding out of his mouth.
I held in my gasp and slowly lifted my hand up to close his eyes.
I looked up and saw that my whole family were burnt to a crisp, I had lost my opportunity to save them.
I have failed my own family!
I knelt on my knees and looked at the cracked ground, tears now uncontrollably flooding out of my eyes.
I had not only lost my family, but I also lost my people and my home.
Everything I had known to love was now gone.
Completely vanished!
