PRESENT…

We were sprinting with the last energy we had, considering we just took out every last soldier. The main generator room. We had a plan.

“Are you sure this is going to work? I mean we only have one shot at this.”

John looked up at me and stopped what he was doing.

“Trust me?”

“Always.” I didn’t know why, but from the moment I met him, I knew I would always trust him with my life. My cheeks automatically flushed. This man will be the death of me. Shaking my head I got back to work.

We set the generator to nuclear implosion. Wiring everything, making sure it destroyed every last piece of this disgusting place…

“MINUS 10 SECONDS TO NUCLEAR IMPLOSION…”

BOOM!

Ash floated down. The air was filled with thick, shadowy smoke. Our eyes connected with each other. I gazed into them, in a safe embrace. Strangely, we didn’t feel awkward. I couldn’t have felt more loved. There was just a calming silence. Everything was so peaceful; it made us forget what happened moments ago. John’s sigh brought me out of my thoughts “What’s wrong?” His expression changed. Gently, he lowered himself so he was less than an inch from my ear. He whispered three words I never thought I would hear.

Then I heard it. A faint voice, calling my name. My head soon became heavy, my eyes fluttered and darkness consumed me.
