Beams of light bled through my eye lids as I tried to peel them open. As I did, I let them focus. I squinted. I gazed around the room, taking in my surroundings, every detail. Where was I? My limbs felt limp and weak. It was as if invisible chains were refusing me movement. A deep, mature voice gained my attention.

“Lily? Lily can you hear me?” I gently nodded my head to give him an answer.

“Where am I?” I croaked. My throat feeling dry.

“You are in hospital; you’ve been in a coma. You were in a serious accident.” Realisation hit me. I remembered. That frightful night.

The harsh burning haze; scorching my bare skin. Searing pains like daggers stabbing my head; making me feel light headed. The smoke filled blackness that left me starved of light. My lungs were gasping for air I could not give. The rubble crushing my limbs, not granting me movement. The blood curdling screams pierced my ears as my body wilted helplessly to the floor. I felt the sensation of warmth as I fought to stay conscience. Everything went black…

How could I forget that? Tears began snaking down my cheeks uncontrollably. My breath became heavy as I began to sob.

The man who was still standing there, I gathered that he was my doctor. He didn’t say anything to me. He just waited for me to allow him to continue.

Finally managing to grasp what had occurred; I calmed myself. “How long have I been asleep?” I squeaked in a quiet whisper, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to know the answer.

“6 months.” He replied simply. Clearly he didn’t mix his feelings with his job. I took a deep breath to try and contain the tears from flowing.

“You are very lucky to be alive. A passer-by pulled you out of the wreckage before the structure could collapse.”

Knock… knock…

The doctor immediately spun round to face the door. He was blocking my view; I couldn’t see who it was.

“Well if it isn’t your good Samaritan. He has been by your side ever since that night, reading his stories to you. If you ask me they are quite good.” He said to me, still facing the door sarcasm dripping from his tongue. I was confused by this. He stepped aside. My gaze fell upon a lanky figure, with a droopy fringe, dressed in a crisp ashen shirt with a tanned jacket. His lengthy legs covered by dark, ripped jeans. At the bottom he wore faded navy converse. His cheeks were tinted crimson. Obviously embarrassed by the doctors words. Our eyes immediately connected. Those emerald eyes boring into mine.

 It was him.
