CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN---▹
Kate took a deep breath, and swung down onto the wire, heading straight toward the ground at an alarming rate, she screamed the whole way down. She passed by the window where Clint had been, "Kate? What are you doing?" he asked, and she used her shoes to slow down before landing on the ground with a grunt. "Kate! You ok?" Clint shouted, "Yeah." She replied breathlessly, and Iskra rounded the corner, holding her side with the now torn stitches. "Clint, the tracksuits are here," Kate warned.
The dull ringing still echoed through Iskra's head as she made her way to Kate, "Look, it's Kate Bishop." One of the tracksuits shouted, Iskra made it to Kate's side, facing the brunette, "Iskra, maybe you should sit this one out." Kate suggested, but Iskra only caught parts of the sentence, she was definitely not the best lip reader,
Iskra.
Sit.
Out.
Iskra shook her head, "No, I'm fine." she said, Kate shot her a look but the tracksuits had already gotten up to them, they fought them off, Iskra yelping out in pain every now and then. "I know, it's probably not the best moment, right now, but I want to thank you, you know. For...for your advice how I should speak to my girlfriend." Thomas said, "Did it work?" Kate asked, still holding his gun, "It worked, bro. We...we went to Maroon 5 instead." he said, "Oh that's so great!" kate exclaimed, "So, what's with the gun?" she asked sarcastically, "I'm sorry but-" he was cut off by Kate sending a kick to him.
Iskra was wrapping a piece of fabric around her torso in an attempt to hold the stitches until she could better treat the wound, and another one of the tracksuits had Kate at gunpoint, "I got you now, bro." he said, but was hit with a sword, and a punch to his face, "Jack." Kate breathed in relief. "Hello, sweetie." He greeted.
"Jack, I am so sorry my mom got you put in jail. Are you ok?" Kate rushed out, and Iskra limped over to stand beside her. "Never been better." he replied, "Iskra." He nodded, she gave him a quick nod in reply. Another tracksuit came up behind him, and Jack easily beat the man, "But I am afraid I have lost track of your mother." he said. "Yeah, you and me both," Kate replied, and Iskra scanned their surroundings choosing to stay out of whatever the conversation was.
Then she spotted one Russian she really wished would've stayed out of this one, "Shit." She muttered, and Kate tapped her in question, Iskra nodded over to the sights on Mikhail, and Kate sighed, "I've got this one." Iskra said, and Kate nodded, "Good luck." Kate said,
Luck.
"I don't need luck, I'm just that awesome." Iskra joked sarcastically, and Kate rolled her eyes, Iskra took a deep breath, before slipping into the shadows hoping to gain the upper hand against Mikhail.
She slipped out of the shadows behind the Russian man, she swept his legs out from underneath him sliding back upwards into a standing position, and held a gun to his head, "Why now? After all these years, are you coming after me?" Iskra questioned flicking the safety off of her gun. "The Kingpin wants you dead," he spoke.
Kingpin.
You.
Dead.
"And he recruited you, knowing that you would be able to get under my skin, using my past to his advantage," Iskra muttered, "You always were a smart one, even as a child," he said.
smart one.
even.
child.
"Don't do that. You don't have the right, you took away the childhood of countless girls," she said anger, sadness, grief, all passing through Iskra's eyes, "You said something about my father before, that you know who he is. Do you really or was it just another one of your tactics to get under my skin?" It hurt Iskra not being able to hear the full replies to her questions, but this was far better than nothing. "I know who your father is," he began,
Know.
Father is.
Iskra froze awaiting the man's answer, "Your father is-" a gunshot went off from the opposite direction of Iskra, killing the man sitting in front of her. Iskra gasped quickly flicking her gun upwards and firing a shot in that direction.
----
"You're right Kazi, that was fun," Clint said swiftly standing up and grabbing his bow, after a brief fight with Kazi. He got to the hallway looking in one direction to seeing the tracksuits and the other direction being the open window, "Oh, this is some Christmas." he scoffed before running and jumping out of the window, grabbing onto the wire that was leftover from Kate and Yelena, of course at the last second it snapped sending him flying down on to the tree.
He groaned in pain as he grabbed on to one of the branches, holding on for dear life, he blew a few pine needles away from his face, he looked in front of him seeing an owl sitting on one of the nearby branches, "Hey." he said, chuckling lightly.
Kate was on the ground fighting against more of the Tracksuit Mafia, "Clint." she said into the earpiece, "Where are you?" she questioned, "Right here." he replied as if it were obvious, "Where is "here" Clint?" she asked breathlessly, "In the tree." he said, "What tree?" she asked looking around, "The tree, Kate." she turned around looking at the Christmas tree. "What are you doing up there?" she asked, "I'm just hangin' out." he said sarcastically, "What do you think?"
A few of the LARPERs came up beside her, "Guys, guys, where's my gear?" she asked them, "I need my gear." she pressed, "Missy?" grills called out, "I've got it, I've got it." she said coming through with a bag. "Any eyes on my mom yet?" Kate asked, "Not yet." Grills replied, "No. Okay. Look, I need to get Clint out of that tree. Clear the civilians for me." Kate spoke, "What about that guy? he doesn't seem to..." Kate turned around seeing Jack fighting off another member of the tracksuit mafia. "He's on our side, but we should get him out too." Kate said, "All right, good luck." Kate said.
A gunshot echoed through the air in the distance, "I know Iskra can't hear us, but have you seen her, I just heard a gunshot." Kate asked into the earpiece walking up the stairs of some store. "I can't see much besides branches from here," Clint stated, and Kate rolled her eyes, "You are just so helpful," Kate said dryly.
As a group of the tracksuits, started running into view, Kate threw a children's bike like thing through the window shattering the glass, she jumped down onto the giant piano thing, "Hey, bros." she said catching their attention, she drew back an arrow, knocking them each down with arrow after arrow, "Kate? Where's our backup?" Clint asked, still holding onto a tree branch, he glanced down seeing them all in full LARPER gear, he chuckled dryly, "We're all gonna die."
"Clint, I'm gonna need you to hold on tight." Kate said, into her earpiece, "Yeah, you think?" he replied sarcastically, "Wait, wait. What do you mean?" he asked quickly, "I'm gonna get you out of that tree. "No, no, no. Don't do anything. Kate?" he pleaded, "I'm gonna get out myself." he added.
"You want me to say "on my signal"?" Kate asked dryly, "Kate, please don't do anything." he pleaded, "Alright, I won't say anything then." she muttered. "Repeat after me." Clint began, "I'm not gonna do anything incredibly stupid." he finished just as Kate released the arrow. "What just happened?" he asked as the tree shook, "Kate, do not." he warned, "Timber," she spoke jokingly, releasing another arrow, Clint screamed as the tree fell down onto the skating rink, he slid away from the branch, holding on to his bow.
The tracksuits approached the rink weapons, he was about to start drawing back arrows, when Kate slid onto the ice, shooting out several smoke arrows. Clint released an arrow with the magnetic field thing, "That should hold them off for a bit." Clint stated, pulling off the dress shirt revealing his suit, "Oh my God you wore it!" Kate exclaimed, "Oh my God it looks so good, I told you!" she said, "Alright, listen to me, we need to get off this ice, ok?" Clint spoke, "That only way off this ice, is those stairs." he said motioning to the stairs, "Great. There's only about a thousand of them, and two of us. God knows where Iskra is..." she spoke looking around, "Here, take these." he said passing her a handful of trick arrows. Kate gasped, "No way! Is it time?" she asked excitedly,
"It's time."
