Chapter 6

Kairi pov
Years.
How many had gone by since that fateful day?
I honestly couldn't remember. A couple of days after I washed ashore on the island of Grey Hel, the Navy announced that I, Kairi Iagina, Newgate's Siren, had been executed by Vice Admiral Uragirimono while destroying my ship; the Moby. The townsfolk were nice enough to treat my wound and nurse me back to health. But upon having no money to pay the charges of the doctor, I was forced to stay and work off my debt.

"Kairi, did you hear about the new pirate Emperor?" My friend Bell asked as she walked over, waving the newspaper around. "No, I didn't." I wiped my hands off onto my pants. I usually tried to avoid reading the dramatic stories that the press sent out. I took the newspaper from Bell and began to read the big headline news. "Whitebeard becomes the new Emperor of the Sea after delivering the head of Edward Newgate..." I trailed off as I reread the headline.
No way was this true!
Who the hell does Whitebeard think he is!? Murdering my lover. "Are you okay?" Bell took the crumbled paper from my hands and tried to look into eyes. "Is my debt paid?" I asked her completely ignoring her question. Bell frowned slightly "You're debt has been paid off for years. You could have left a long time ago." "What!" I shouted and then hurried off to find the damn doctor that kept me away from Newgate and Marco.

I charged through the small town, "Has anyone seen Dr. Mercy?" The doctor, who was currently sitting by the fountain with his friends, waved me over. "Is something wrong, Dear?" Mercy asked only to be punched straight in the face and knocked into the fountain "How dare you keep me this long!" The truth of the Navy had been staring me straight in the face the whole time. How could I be so blind! "Ah, so you know..." Mercy trailed off, carefully wiping the water off of his face. "I know that you lied to me for years!" I shouted. "What was the point of keeping me here? I could have returned to my son!" "You know why." He stated calmly before raising his voice and continued with a lie, "Your body was too weak when I treated your wound so I kept you for observation." "Observation for what!" I growled, I was beginning to really see red. Mercy jumped out of the water as quickly as he could. He didn't really have an honest answer to speak out loud to the innocent and clueless crowd, "The scars on your neck." I looked at the fountain water and took a step back in fake shock, once my fake anger disappeared. I looked at Mercy for an actual answer, even though I already knew what it was. He shook his head "I don't know. I can't help you." I shifted my body and then let out a loud sigh "I can worry about that later. I need a boat. I need to leave, my son is in danger!" I looked at those around me with pleading eyes. Grey Hel was an island that was full of people who had never been off their own island. "Can anyone lend me a boat or something to make a boat with? Even if it's just a raft..."
"Kairi!" Bell hurried over "My father says the factory has some wood you can use." "Ah, perfect!" I replied and turned to follow Bell and the other townsfolk started to chip into help me build a raft.
"Here, we need to change your hair. The Navy executed you." The old hairdresser lady spoke up as she placed a hand on my shoulder and pulled me aside to swiftly cut off most of the long locks I had grown over the years. Bell pulled out more manly looking clothes and handed them to me, "Here, put these on so you can blend in." "Are you this will work?" I asked her as Bell shoved me towards a house to go change my clothes, "I don't really know."
While I changed clothes, the carpenters continued to work on the raft. They heaved the wood together and began tying with strong vines and nailing some pieces as well.
"It just needs to hold together long enough for her to get a proper boat somewhere." The leader spoke as he looked over their rushed work. He grabbed a smaller stick and began to place it in the middle as a mast and used a bedsheet as a sail.

Far away across the ocean, sat the Moby Dick. Whitebeard's main ship had been designed after Kairi's original Moby. It was huge in comparison to a lot of pirates ships and usually just the sight of the white whale would strike fear into anyone's heart. Whitebeard sat down in his giant chair as over the years his body had grown twice it's original size; he glanced down at the deck where his crew had started a party over some exciting news. Marco joined the party and went to hand his father some sake, "Here Pops, join the celebration!" Whitebeard took the giant gourd handed to him and swallowed down about a fifth of the bottle before he set it down, continuing to watch the festivities. He closed his eyes in thought. Tomorrow was the anniversary of her death. He let out a tired sigh and rested his hand on his cheek as he glanced back down at all of his children.
I did it Kairi, I got my dream.
Marco was talking with Ace as the young boy was chowing down on his food. Ace cleared his throat "Why does Pops look so sad?" Marco turned to look at Whitebeard, the familiar sadness lingered in his eyes and made Marco's heart tighten a bit. He turned back to Ace and shrugged "Maybe he has a lot on his mind." The two had never breathed a word to the rest of the crew about the first lady. Why tell them? They wouldn't understand anyways. Marco shifted uncomfortably in his spot. Tomorrow was the day he hated most. It brought back an awful lot of unwanted memories. Despite what Pops had told him all those years ago, Marco still secretly blamed himself for her death. If he had been paying better attention or if he had woken up sooner, they would have had a fighting chance! "Marco...?" Ace asked him, shaking the blonde out of his depressing thoughts "Yes?" "You know I never thought about it until now but why is the ship made like a whale?" Others heard his question and joined in to give him all kinds of answers. Marco carefully slipped out of the crowd and over to Pops "So where is our next destination?" He placed a hand on his hip as he used the other to wave slightly as he talked. "The log pose is pointing to an island not far away, maybe a couple of days at sea." Whitebeard shifted in his seat before he stood up and turned to walk over to the edge, looking down at the blue water that reminded him of her. She always stood, staring into the distance with a content smile on her face.
"Pops! There's a Navy Vessel headed straight this way!" Thatch yelled from the top of the crows' nest, pointing in front of them. Whitebeard looked up from the water and narrowed his eyes, making his way back to his seat and grabbing his naginata and turning back to face the front of the ship. "Coming back to finish the job...huh?" He muttered and stepped forward as he readied his weapon for a fight. "Finish the job?" Ace asked as the men crowded around Whitebeard at his feet. The Navy ship got closer and Marco saw that it wasn't exactly who Pops thought it was. "I thought those soldiers drowned." The rage that boiled in his blood made him jump up on the railing, his blue flames now dancing around his body as he was ready to transform. Whitebeard pulled back his naginata and surrounded it with a quake bubble before swinging out at the Navy ship, causing the ship and the ocean to crack apart underneath the Navy's feet. The men cried out in fear and surprise as their ship sinks; leaving them stranded in the water. The vice admiral that swam up to a piece of wood wasn't who Whitebeard thought he was. He frowned and then turned away from them "Let us change course." He pointed slightly south and the crew swiftly hurried to change the course of the Moby Dick. Marco stared at the Navy before he changed his arms to wings and flew over to the vice admiral, landing on the piece of driftwood he was floating on.
"So," Marco grinned as he squatted down to speak with the man. "I'm going to ask you a question and if I don't like your answer..." His flames shifted around his body to finish his point. The vice admiral struggled to stay on the driftwood. His shoulder had been badly injured in the sudden attack from Whitebeard. "So is Vice Admiral Uragirimono still kicking?" Marco asked him. "You mean Admiral...?" The vice asked him and shifted his shoulder, trying not to wince in pain, "Oh! The one who executed Kairi Newgate." His face paled as he spoke those words, realizing he was giving the Whitebeard Pirates exactly the information they wanted. "Newgate..." Marco knitted his brows together in confusion. He had been with Pops and Mom for years, never once had they been married. "She claimed his name just before they cut her head off." The vice explained. Marco stood. This vice admiral clearly believed that she was actually caught and didn't drown at sea. He didn't have anything else to ask and took off back to the Moby Dick.
He hurried to Pops with the information he just received.
"...yes...I know."
"You knew he was still alive!?" Marco exclaimed as Whitebeard just sat back into his chair, "I did son." "Why didn't you tell me!" Marco barked, he felt a bit betrayed that his Father knew that the murderer of his Mother was still alive. "Because you will let rage cloud your judgement and possibly get yourself killed." Whitebeard told him calmly. "I can't believe-" Marco started before Whitebeard cut him off "I know you are enraged. I know want to avenge her death but you cannot just charge ahead with no plan. I'm not going to loose you too." "Pops-!" Marco gave Whitebeard a hurt look before he marched off to cool down. The fight had been witnessed by the crew. Who was this her they spoke of?
"Pops...?" Ace walked forward "What was that about?" Whitebeard shook his head "Just let it go."
