{[Chapter 15]}

The conversation is broken when a cry is heard, "Oh she's probably hungry, I'll go get Aubrey and bring her down." Leila says getting up from the table. Soon after, she comes down cradling a small bundle cooing at it.

"Leila, can I see hello to my favorite goddaughter?" Theo asks with a smile and the baby is passed over to him.

"Oh hey there sweetheart, you've gotten even bigger than the last time I saw you!" he laughs, it's obvious this baby has him wrapped around her little finger already. I feel my heart clench slightly at the sight, our bond might not even be claimed yet and I may not be eager to have children but it's clear that Theo would want children. With the diagnosis I received today, I feel a little sick at the thought, Theo may never get the Alpha heir he'll need to continue his legacy.

"Excuse me." I say quietly with a small smile. I move out of the room, opening the door I go out onto their deck needing the fresh air.

Not long after I hear the soft click of the door opening and closing, "I'm sorry, I hope I didn't upset you."

I look up and see Leila looking at my sympathetically, "No, no, you're fine. Your daughter is beautiful. I just need some fresh air." I reply hastily.

"Alex, I'm not blind. I can tell it upset you." she's blunt but it's appreciated.

I sigh, "I swear it's not because of Aubrey, I just...Theo's so good with her, I just can't...I don't know if I can give him that."

The silence stays between the two of us and it's obvious that Leila expects her to continue, "I saw the pack healer today, I was exposed to silver and it complicates everything. Right now children aren't the focus, there's so many other things I..we...need to work on."

"Hey, that's okay. You guys will figure it out as you go but there's no reason for you to beat yourself up over something you had no control over." Leila answers soothingly.

I just nod, "I know, thank you for listening. It probably doesn't help that I've been drinking." I say with a weak chuckle.

The two of us head back inside, Theo is still holding the baby and the men talk animatedly. Leila manages to take the baby back and goes to feed it. Rejoining the table, I listen to the men talk about pack training. It's interesting to compare Theo's pack to my old one. Eventually the night winds down and Theo and I leave heading back to the pack house.

"Did you have a good time tonight?" he asks curiously.

"Yeah, Leila's very sweet I'm glad I got to meet her. Aubrey was quite cute too." I reply honestly.

"I'm glad you enjoyed it, we tend to get together weekly."

We continue our walk in silence and once we get to the pack house go our separate ways, Theo still has some paperwork he needs to finish up and I decide to call it a night since I want to be ready for training tomorrow.

________________________________________________________

So we see Alex feeling a twinge of guilt for possibly not being able to bear children for Theo, although she is quick to identify that this isn't their main problem in life right now.

Leila seems like a good influence though, I think they could be great friends.
