Chapter 3
The sisters gathered their gowns and fled the gala, Lakshmi swung the doors wide open. "Where do we go? Where's the library?" She asked as Kesariya took the reins, running down a hallway.
"Lady Jolene said there was a library in the East Wing when we were talking!" Kesariyra exclaimed, taking a sharp left turn. There was no time to waste, they had to find the rulebook before midnight.
For Father.
They arrived at the library and Lakshmi kicked open the door for dramatic flair. "Oh my god—Lakshmi!" Eesha hissed, dismayed at the footprint on the door. The library was huge, and rows and rows of books startled them, how would they find the rulebook?
A curvy dark-skinned woman wearing a black suit and with neat tresses walked up to them. Eesha read the name Sara on her nametag. "I am the librarian of the Genesis Estate, what can I help you with?"
"We need to find the Rulebook of Midnight, Wish, & Luck," Kesariya replied.
"Oh, well, I'm afraid I can't help you as it is against Lord Naveen's wishes. However, you can go through index cards to see where it is," Sara offered and Lakshmi nodded rapidly. "Perfect, follow me."
Sara led them to a tiny office and pointed at a file cabinet. "That's where you'll find your little rulebook's record and placement. Good luck, girls. Have a good night." Sara left shortly after Eesha opened the cabinet.
"There's dozens of index cards," she fretted.
"It's in the order of A to Z, check the R section," Kesariya suggested as Lakshmi fanned herself. She slipped off her lacy white gloves, revealing her light cocoa skin. "Are you okay?"
"I-I just don't like being watched, but Lord Naveen cast a spell for all of Inizio to watch us," she said, wincing. It felt as if she had no privacy and she was being stalked. "I don't want to be watched like an object."
"It's only until midnight," Kesariya assured her.
"Found it!" Eesha yanked out a yellowed index card. The sisters huddled close together to read it together. Eesha's brows furrowed in confusion. "The Rulebook of Midnight, Wish, & Luck is checked out by... Kian Foxe?!"
"Isn't that your Thursday date?" Lakshmi asked.
Eesha pocketed the index card. "We need to get back to the ballroom."
Kesariya glanced at the grandfather clock next to the filing cabinet. 11: 15 PM. "We better hurry."
