Rule #13 & #11
/Logan's POV\
Rule # 13
Haunt the souls family
Rule # 11
Do not get caught
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You have to what?" Parker frowned at me.
"You know... Check up on Landon's family and technically friends because sometimes family can be delicate and kill themselves."
"That's weird! You really have to do that?"
"Well... Yeah, and not get caught, cause at funerals, on what I call my home turf, people can see me, so I need to make sure I don't get caught."
"Why can they see you there?"
"You how people say that sometimes a guardian angel showed up to the funeral to bless the family or some shit? Well it's bull, it's really soul and grim reapers stalking the family, seeing who their next job may be."
"You have the weirdest job ever." Parker sighed and laid on my bed.
"Well I didn't sign up for it." I sighed. I laid next to him.
"If you didn't sign up for it, how'd get messed up into this?" He looked over at me.
"I was chosen. As you live the elder Grim reapers watch over every thing in this world, living and dead. And if your fit for the job than when you did they send anther Grim Reaper, normally they are about 200-300 years old... And they collect us and train is before sending us on our first job..."
"So your chosen?... That sucks, I really hope I'm not. This must be torture." Parker huffed.
"Eh... Sometimes... I get deathly bored."
Parker raised an eyebrow at me for my statement, in a 'really?' Kind if way... But he did look a bit unimpressed...
Hehe...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"-Landon really was great-"
"-he had his troubles...-"
"-I personally thought of him as a brother-"
"-he was so nice to me...-"
As me and Parker sat in the back of the funeral. Me holding onto his arm for a anchor so I could actually be seen instead if my ghostly form.
In certain places if I have an anchor (a human body) than my form can develop, but I can only do this at graveyards and at a Funeral home place, oh and when I'm collecting a soul... It's where the weakest link between the spiritual world and the human world... Well so are churches, but those damned lazy angels use them, so soul reapers get these depressing places.
"Do we have to stay here any longer? I'm so bored..." Parker looked at me with pleading eyes.
"Awe, it's okay Park, it's only a bit longer, trust me. I'm almost done and we can leave..." I let out a sigh. After we leave this place no one see me unless I have a job to do.
Parker might be willing to hang out I guess...
"-and may God be with him... Amen..."
I stood up and let go of Parker, drawing my black hoodie up to hide most of my body.
"Are you sure your done here? Maybe-"
"It's okay I know I'm done." I started walking away when I felt a hand grab my shoulder, and it was bigger than Parker's hand.
"Who are you boy? You don't know Landon do ya?" A gruff voice sounded behind me.
I gave a nervous chuckle, "of course I did. But I didn't know him to well... I'm off now-"
"Whoa whoa wait. Stay for the after party!we should celebrate knowing him!" The guy spun me around, and just as fast he did I reached around him and grabbed Parker and we booked it out of there.
"Oh my god! He totally saw you! He looked shocked! He's knows your different! What do we do?!"
I looked back at Parker before pulling him down a forestry path and slowing down. I let out a loud sigh. "I don't know... But that's anther rule to cross off!" I turned to a tree and was about to punch it when I forced myself not to get angry. "If I break anymore rules Aurthers going to murder me..." I sighed.
"Well at least you've only broken a few right?" Parker put a hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah, rule 6, 7, 10 and 11..." I dropped my head I shame.
"That's only four out of what? 15?"
I shrugged. He did kind of have a point. "Lets just get home okay?"
He nodded and we made our way back to my house. I decided to make small talk. "When will you be going to school?"
"I'll probably wait anther couple days before heading back. Winter vacation is coming up soon." He shrugged.
"Oh. Fun." I gave a small smile.
"How old are you?" He asked.
"118... But according to my death date I'm still 117... When Christmas hits I'll be a certified Grim Reaper... That is if I don't break anymore of the rules." I heaved a sigh.
"You won't. You only have what? A week and some amount of days right? How many rules can you honestly break in that time?" He rolled his eyes.
"All of them?"
"Be optimistic Logan!" He slapped my back and gave me the biggest smile if ever seen... While Cynthia still holds that record when she chased me around the house trying to shot me with a water gun... That was scarier than it seemed, trust me.
"It's impossible..."
Parker glared at me and I glared right back.
We walked up to my house, but before we even walked in the door, Arthur was up in my face, he was red. Seriously, he was beyond pissed. "Logan Alden Reaper! How dare you break more rules! What the fucking hell has gotten into you?!"
Parker hid behind me as we stared up in shock at my dad.
"I-I do-nt kn-ow wh-at you-r tal-king about." My voice shook an I stuttered out my whole sentence, the look on his face had 'murder' all over. He can kill me. If he wanted to.
"I've been letting you off easy... But now, your getting a real good punishment now." He grab my arm in a tight grip, making me cringe. "And Parker." Arthur looked directly at Parker. "You are to follow me, and see Logan's punishment, because this is all your fault that he is slacking, and rule breaking his way through his job now." Arthur spun on his heel and dragged me through the house, and up to my room. Parker followed. He was pale as- well a ghost.
"Arthur! Your hurting me!" I whimpered. I don't care if that makes me look weak, but Arthur terrifies me. When he gets mad... It's like letting the devil out if it's cage.
"Good!" He threw my door open and threw me at my bed. When I landed on it I looked up at him in fear. "Logan, I'm going to give you to the count of five to get undressed." I was such a state of shock, I didn't even move. Even after he started counting, but when he reached three I was furiously taking off my shirt and pants, knowing if I didn't do it myself, he'd do it and much worse than what my punishment now is.
Just sitting there in my bed in my underwear, I was shaking with fear. I chanced a look at Parker who was crying, and covering his mouth, he wouldn't speak out. He was to afraid to.
"Arthur, please, don't make Parker watch. I promise I'll do better."
Arthur raised his hand, already I was wincing, but he only snapped his fingers, brining out his black suit for when he goes soul hunting. His outfit was similar to mine but he had a more assortment if weapons. He had guns, whips, knives and one sword. He was equipped for all kinds of souls.
Arthur grabbed his whip off his belt and snapped it onto the ground. "Logan. You have broken five rules, and by Grim laws I am forced to deal out your punishment. You will have ten lashings. Do I make myself clear?"
I stared up at him. "B-ut. I've only broken four!"
"You didn't do your job thoroughly this time! You've broken five!"
I broke rule 13 to...
I paled, tears already welling up in my eyes. "I'm sorry..."
"Please don't hurt him!" Parker yelled but he covered his mouth again as we both stared in shock at my dad. His features darkened even more as he spun around to face Parker.
"You have no say in this. Your the one who influenced Logan, and the laws I go by state I can not harm you. So this is your lesson and Logan's. now shut the hell up before I decide to break one of my own laws." He turned back to me. "Logan stand up, keep your back to me, and hands on the wall. I want to make sure I teach you well."
I didn't have the energy to argue or plead for him to not do this, I shakily got off my bed and made my way to the wall, sending a sad look at Parker, this wasn't his fault, he shouldn't have to see this. I put my hands on the wall and bowed my head in shame. I clenched my hands and jaw, preparing myself for what was about to happen.
Arthur raised his whip, and I started counting each and every strike.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
By now I was crying, desperately trying to to keep myself together as he brought his whip back yet again to finish the rest.
Six.
Seven.
Eight.
Nine.
Ten.
Arthur didn't even stay after he finished. He made a swift exit out of my room, slamming the door behind him. I sank to the ground and sobbed. My back stung and I could feel the ever the present trickle of warm fresh blood make its way down my back.
"Logan!" Parker ran over to me and gently put his arms around me, carful not to touch my back. "Oh Logan I'm so sorry. I should leave, you shouldn't have to go through this."
I gripped Parker's shirt as I buried my face in his chest. "It's okay. It's all my fault." I rasped. "I'm not doing my job right... After all this time, I should know better."
Parker put his chin on top if my head and rocked us back and forth. He was being my rock.
Which I was so thankful for.
/Parker's POV\
As I rocked Logan I felt him calm down. I had to take care of his back before something bad happened. Like it get infected or it bleed out.
"Logi?" I heard a childish voice. It was Cynthia and Alia. They must of heard everything and were coming in to check out the result.
Logan looked up over shoulder at Cynthia and Alia. "H-hi..."
These two can actually be very caring. I still remember how calm and sad they were when Logan sick.
"Logi? Why did daddy hurt you?" She came over and sat behind Logan so she could see his back. Alia did the same and I could see them both wince.
"I've been bad Cynthia." Logan murmered as he rested back against my chest.
Alia grabbed Cynthia'a hand before she could touch Logan's back. "Don't touch his Cynthia. He's hurt." The girls shared a look. "Logan. We'll be downstairs if you need ANYTHING. Don't hesitate to ask. And Cynthia is worried for you because she's not the one hurting you."
Logan chuckled very quietly. "I promise I'll fight later okay CC?" Cynthia smiled.
"Thanks Logi." What a strange relationship.
The girls said their goodbyes before leaving.
"Why don't you wait right here, while I get some bandages and disinfectant? We need to take care of those before you get worse." Logan nodded and reluctantly let me go. He didn't move from his hunched position on the floor.
I stared for a second before walking into his bathroom and getting what I needed after searching for a bit. When I returned he still hadn't moved. I got behind him and slowly stared applying the disinfectant. He'd hiss and gasp when I hit deep cuts making me wince and apologize every time. After he was all wrapped he finally shifted. He groaned in pain.
"Arthur's got a strong arm..." I felt a horrible guilt. I know I was the one distracting him, and was even the cause for the first rule to be broken.
"Well how about I help you into bed and get you some aspirin?" I offered, and with a nod if his head, I slung his arm around my shoulders and cruelly put a arm around his back and held his waist. Once across the room, I let him sit in his bed as I slipped his shirt back on him and even helped him into some shorts before tucking him into bed.
I went back into the bathroom and got his aspirin and found a Dixie cup and filled it with a little water before going back over to his bed. "I'll change your bandages in a hour. But here's your pill." I gave him the aspirin which he greedily took with his cup of water.
"Thank you so much for this Parker." Logan looked up at me with a thankful gentle expression.
"No problem. Now get some rest."
I kissed forehead and said goodnight.
The kiss was just a friendly thing to do...
Right?
