Chapter 4: Peaceful

Hey guys thanks for reading and enjoy the story!!

************************************

We claimed a spot near the forest yet by the road for our campsite. I preferred the van there too so we could sleep in the van. Also I wanted to keep an eye on the van. I did not trust Mr. Snot at all. We decided to call him Mr. Snot, although there's no real reason why we chose that specific name. I was currently setting up the supplies. I just found out that the van had a compartment for a spare tire. Of course there was no tire so I decided we put the knives and packages of food in there. I also found side compartments that I put the canned food in. Once the supplies were put away, I put the back seats down. They just folded into the ground. Finally I spread out all the blankets and pillows in the big space. It was quite comfy.

Audrey and Britney were outside setting up the tent. I figured two people stay in the tent, two people stay in the van. Daniel was setting up a fire pit after talking to Glenn who helped us out a lot. Along with Dale whom I immediately took a liking to. He reminded me of my grandpa. I jumped out of the van and walked over to Dale who was sitting on the RV in his chair. He looked at me and smiled as I climbed up and sat next to him.

"So is there a watch system?" I asked curiously.

"Actually we have two people at a time take a watch at night. Daytime is really up to everyone. If you want a watch time there is only one person who needs a partner and I don't think it's a good idea for you." He said worriedly at the end.

  I looked him in confusion.

"As long as its not with Mr. Snot, I'm good." I said as I giggled.

   Dale chuckled at my nickname.

"It's Daryl. One of the Dixon brothers." He said.

I looked over and saw the one guy with the crossbow. I nodded in understanding.

"I'm fine with it. When is it?" I asked.

"In a couple days. Glenn and a couple others are going on a run to the city. Daryl's brother Merle is his partner and seeing as he is going to be gone, Daryl needs another partner. Then he'll probably go on another hunt." Dale explained.

I absorbed the information and smiled.

"Ok, guess I'll take the watch with him in a couple days. Do me a favor and remind me that day. Thanks Dale" I said before climbing down the camper and going to my group's campsite.

Mr. Snot glared at me before continuing his journey into the forest with Lori going to do whatever they were going to do. I sighed and noticed the tent and everything was set up, Plus a small fire. I smiled happily at the success. I noticed Daniel and Britney in the tent. Audrey was sitting in the van and writing something on a piece of paper. I sat next to her and looked over her shoulder at what she was writing. It was a list for things. I noticed she put down that if Glenn found any spray paint that would be great. I wondered what she was gonna do with it.

"What's with the spray paint?" I asked curiously as she wrote down razors.

"I was thinking we could spray paint the van and make it totally our own." She said as her creative gleam shone in her eyes.

I smiled at the thought.

"That actually sounds really awesome." I said excitedly.

I looked at the van and realised that since it was hot in Georgia, the van would get stuffy to sleep in.

"What do think about sleeping on the roof of the van?" I asked curiously.

It would be safer than sleeping inside and leaving the doors open.

"Of course! It'll be just like how we sleep on the roof of your house." She said excitedly.

She got out another piece of paper and markers.

"I think I'm going to think of what we should do for the design of the van." She said thoughtfully.

"Well then, while you do that, I'm going to go get to know more people." I said as I got up and walked towards the lake.

The girls were doing laundry at the lake and chatting. They had plenty of laundry to do by the looks of it.

"Would I be able to help lighten the load" I said as I sat by them.

They looked up at me in surprise and smiled.

"Oh we could always use the extra help." Carol said as she gladly handed me some clothes.

I followed what they were doing and caught on quickly. We laughed and chatted about random girl things. For example, we at one point got on the topic of what we want in a guy. Then Andrea mentioned that they better treat her like a queen and we all burst out laughing as she sauntered around. Sarcastically hold her hand out as if to kiss her ring.

"Momma, Shane wanted to know if you guys were almost done, so you could start making dinner." Carl said as he ran over to us.

I rolled my eyes at the mention of Mr.Snot.

"If he's so worried about us getting done fast enough for diner, then maybe he should start cooking. Or better yet come help out with the laundry, seeing as it is also his clothes." I said while everyone agreed and quickly finished the rest.

We all headed back to the campsite were everyone was settling down and gathering at fires. I walked over to my campsite and grinned at everyone. They all smiled and perked up.

"So what should we make for dinner?" Audrey asked.

I walked over to the van and grabbed a couple cans of beef stew and some peaches. Then I walked over with it. I also grabbed bowls and utensils.

"We're having stew and peaches. Tomorrow I'll go hunting, so we can have some fresh stuff." I said before putting the stew in a pot over the fire.

Everyone's tummy's grumbled as the stew cooked. We ate some of the peaches while we waited. I got to say, it wasn't a horrible meal. It may all be from a can, but at least we have food. Once the stew was hot enough we all scooped out some and ate it. We all sighed in happiness. Our first hot meal in over 24 hours since this all started.

"You know, I think I might really like this group." I said as I finished.

I allowed everyone else to have the rest of the stew.

"Everyone's really friendly. Well except for Mr. Snot and Merle." Britney said after she finished the last bit in her bole.

We nodded in agreement. Night had fallen by now and the fire lit up our little area. I looked up at the sky and smiled. It was really the only thing that hadn't changed much. I say hadn't changed much because normally there are planes and helicopters flying every now and then.

"I'm really worn out. I'm going to head to bed, goodnight." Britney said with a smile.

Daniel stood up as well and joined his sister.

  "Night." He called tiredly.

Audrey yawned and rubbed her eyes.

"Go to bed, I'll join later." I said as she tiredly got up and went to the van.

"Nighty night." She called before going to bed.

I watched the sky. It was quite peaceful, although I could still here the loud laughing and conversation near by.

"Hey Angel! Come join the circle." Andrea said as the group smiled at me.

It wasn't everyone of course. Glenn, Mr. Snot, Dale, Carol, Andrea, and Amy sat in a circle around one of the larger campsites. I guess everyone everyone else went to bed. I sat by Andrea and Amy, and I could tell Mr. Snot is not happy they invited me over.

"Hey what do you plan on doing tomorrow?" Amy asked

"Probably go hunt real quick. Why?" I asked while Amy looked at her sister.

"Well Andrea and I wanted to know if you could fish with us. We don't plan on going till the afternoon." She said excitedly.

I smiled at her excitement. She seems to really want me to go.

"Why not? It sounds fun. I don't know how long it's been since I've went fishing. I usually just go hunting." I said with excitement as I thought about it.

Amy squealed and hugged me. I giggled and hugged back. Everyone chuckled at our friendship. It may of only been a day but Amy and I already got along really well. She reminded me of one of my old friends who moved away.

"Sounds like a big day." Dale said with a kind smile.

I smiled back. Man I liked his grandfatherly vibe.

"I'm going to bed then. I want to have as much energy as possible for tomorrow." Amy said excitedly before walking off.

  Andrea decided to go with.

"Night everyone." She said.

We all replied with a good night and sat in a comfortable silence.

"I guess I better get to bed as well if I'm going to do all that tomorrow." I said while smiling at them.

"Night" I said with a wave as I walked over to our campsite and went to the van.

Everyone was fast asleep. I looked around at the peacefulness. I really hope it stays like this. I climbed to roof where Audrey had all the blankets and pillows set up. She was snoring quietly due to the blanket that kinda muffled the sound. I chuckled quietly before setting my boots on the corner of the roof and crawling over to my spot. Once I settled in I looked at the stars and relaxed.

   Tomorrow should be fun.
