The Promise

That night, Miku dreamed that Roxanne was being attacked by a demon.

The demon was truly monstrous. His frame was large and muscular, like a bodybuilder who had taken too many steroids. It had leathery wings, a forked tail, sharp claws, bull horns, and what looked to be large cloven hooves. The face of the demon was hidden behind an eye-less mask, but it looked to be in the shape of a bull's. It wore a skipped leather harness, as well.

The demon had absolutely torn Roxanne up. She was just barely alive, and called out to her.

"Miku! Miku, help me!"

Miku saw the scene clearly, but her empathy was nowhere to be found.

"What did you do to make him angry?"

"I tried to stab Madelina-"

The demon slashed Roxanne again, finally killing her. Miku began to be sick from the stench of

blood.

The demon then turned his focus to Miku.

"Use her as an example for what happens when you mess with Madelina."

Miku was shuddering all over. "Warning received and understood!"

The dream ended there.

Miku was surprised at the clarity of the dream. She itched to draw the demon, to memorialize the vision.

Madelina saw the illustration she made while scrolling Instagram. She went to get Inky.

Inky was napping, peacefully, on Sommerset's bed, the amulet around his neck. Madelina shook him awake, angering him.

"What the fuck, Madelina! You know I that this stupid amulet drains my energy all the fucking time! I need my sleep, asshole!"

Madelina ignored the complaints, shoving the image in his face. "Are you behind this?"

Inky went pale. "Th-that's an almost a hundred percent accurate illustration of my deadly form!"

"Inky, what are you going on about?"

"You know that amacualli get more powerful as they indulge more in their sin right?"

"Right..."

"When an amacualli indulges in their sin to the most degree, they gain a new, extremely demonic form. And that's what mine is like."

Madelina looked back to the image, and then to Inky.

"You entered her dreams, didn't you?"

"You were worried about her, so I warned her to keep away.

Oh, don't tell me you're upset!"

Madelina sighed. "I'm just worried that if you keep doing that, an investigation will be launched, and you'll be taken away from me."

"In your dreams, Mad!

Can..can I call you Mad?"

Madelina was never one for nicknames, but she liked the symmetry of a spirit of Wrath and a socressess known as Mad.

"Yeah, I've never been called that before. Y'know, as a nickname."

"Fine, Mad.

Look, Mad, if anyone puts up a barrier between you and me, I'll make sure to knock it over."
