Aahil POV

I could see the fort now. It was almost afternoon when I reached the Sultanate. My heart was beating so fast and loud that I could not even describe it.

I only wanted to get a glimpse of her being safe and sound.

I did not know that she refused to go with her brother. If I had known, I would have taken her to her Sultanate. She could not see her brothers and husband fighting. I did not want her to be alone in such circumstances and especially when my family also knew how she was related to my father's death.

I could feel the strong winds slapping on my face as my horse conquered the lands with insane speed.

I urgently pulled its ropes, and he neighed, pulling his front two legs higher and then stopped right in front of the door.

I immediately stepped down, and the soldiers at the entrance opened the door wide for me, seeing me coming.

I walked inside in a fury, taking longer steps. I did not know why my heart was suddenly hurting, and there was unbearable uneasiness in my chest. Nothing was sensing normal. The sunlight made me feel extra hot, and my knees unknowingly got weak.

I did not know why my fingers turned cold, and they were trembling. My brain was not ready to leave that thought, the thought of her bloodied and unconscious.

I silently begged God for everything to be fine.

I could bear anything, anything for real, but nothing could happen to her.

"Aashiq,"

Suddenly the voice of my mother caught my attention, and I stopped to look at her.

"Assamlamwalaikum, Ammi,"

I said in a hurry, and she replied with a tense face.

"The war is over?"

She asked, and I felt restless about staying here even for a moment.

"Yes,"

I answered.

"We won?"

She asked with a wide smile on her face.

I sighed and replied.

"No, we gave up, hoisted the white flag,"

I walked past her, and she stopped me suddenly.

"Why, you never lost a war,"

And I could feel my heart exploding at any moment.

"Ammi, I will explain everything later. For now, I just want to see Ruhani,"

Her expression changed to hurt, and her eyes, as always, turned teary.

"Ruhani, Ruhani, Ruhani, Ruhani, even knowing that she was involved in your father's death, you still looking for her,"

Her voice was also hoarse, and I inhaled a deep breath.

"Ammi, I know everything. But, please, enough is enough. I cannot surpass my emotions. I cannot deny what my heart is telling me,"

I did not know why tears collected in my eyes suddenly, remembering her face.

"I tried to make you understand this more than ten times. Whether she was involved or not, my heart cannot unlove her, I cannot forget her, she is the air to my breath, she is everything I have, she is my whole Sultanate, and I love her so much. You do not have your son, this Sultanate does not have its Sultan, and this world does not have an Aashiq without her. She is my heartbeats, she is my vision, she is my soul. I am so dead without her; why cannot you see and understand this so fucking small thing,"

My voice increased by the end of my words, and she shivered in front of me. The tears fell from her eyes, and she silently moved aside.

I continued with my furious steps and finally turned towards her chamber. With each step, my heart was beating so mad. The visuals of her being fine, looking at me with her doe eyes, smiling, and running to me for a hug were blurring my vision.

But, deep down, my heart was telling me something was wrong, something was so wrong. My breaths could feel it, my heartbeats were telling me, and my tears were flowing for no reason.

And I placed my hand on the door handles of her chamber, pushing them with force to open. The absence of soldiers outside her chamber made me furious and suspicious, and I moved my gaze inside, calling slowly.

"Ruhani,"

The silence followed, and my heart sank deeper. Raking my eyes around, I tried to spot her and stepped inside.

My sight fell on the bed in the distance, and it was empty; I raked my eyes in the corner to see if she was roaming around.

Walking closer towards the couch, I noticed the floor beside the bed. There was blood.

"Ruhani,"

I screamed louder and followed the trail of blood.

And my heartbeats stopped, and my world ended by seeing her lying on the floor near the table. Her legs were stained in blood, and I sat beside her.

I could not understand anything.

"Call the physicians!!!!!!!"

I screamed at the top of my lungs while my eyes scanned her to know what had happened. She did not have complete clothes on her body, and I looked at her hand clothes to her chest.

My trembling fingers slowly held her bloodied hands and pulled them slowly. And the sight before me froze me. I fell to the ground, and my heart actually exploded. It pained senselessly, and my tears fell like anything.

"Ruhani,"

I called with a hoarse and paining voice and took the tiny, red flesh of our baby in my hands. I broke into thousand tears looking at him and brought them closer to my lips.

"Your father is here; everything is okay,"

I tried to mutter, but the damage was already done.

He was tiny, immature physically and now dead. There were no eyes. He had a tiny little nose; his lips stuck together. His legs were small, and his fingers were in the growth stage.

I cried even more and looked at Ruhani's face.

She had turned pale and weak, and her body was lying lifeless.

"Sultan,", "Aashiq,", "Bhaijaan,"

I held her hand and screamed with the unbearable pain I was feeling now. Why the hell did she not tell me about it?

"Why did you not tell me?"

I muttered and heard the physician's voice.

"Sultan, hold yourself. We need to save her,"

I looked into his eyes.

"Save her, or I will burn you all, Aliveeeee. I will give no fuck in killing all who are responsible for this condition of hers,"

My threat was real. I just wanted her to open her eyes now.

"Yes, Sultan,"

He said and forwarded his hand with a white cotton cloth, asking me to place the baby in it.

I did, and he cut the placenta to separate them.

"We need to put the Begum on the bed,"

He said, and I screamed at the top of my lung.

"PRIVACY!!!"

There was chaos in the chamber, and I took her gently into my arms. My heart was beating madly as I silently looked at her washed-out face.

Placing her on the bed, I pulled the cover on her.

The physician handed me the baby back while I sat beside her. The team of physicians started their work, and within a few moments, the head physician spoke.

"She is poisoned,"

"I know; her face already told me that,"

I started and held her hand softly.

"It is good that she passed out after delivering the baby otherwise, she would be dead already,"

The head physician said, and I lifted my gaze to him.

"Watch your mouth. Do not provoke me to take your life by using such words in her regards,"

And he immediately apologized.

"Forgive me, Sultan. But, we need to bring the poison out of her body quickly,"

"Do as you seem fit, but I want my wife alive and healthy as soon as possible,"

I threatened him and every member of his team. I meant my words.

"Calm down, Aashiq,"

I heard my mother's voice, and I asked.

"Who removed the soldiers of her queen's guard?"

The silence followed, and I lifted my gaze from Ruhani to my mother standing at a distance.

"I am asking something Badi Begum, who dared to remove my wife's security guards?"

I looked at her shivering gestures, and I placed the baby near Ruhani; I placed her hand on him and stood up from the bed.

Walking towards her, I repeated my question with an increased voice and looked sharply into her eyes, pulling the knife out of its sheath.

"WHO THE HELL DARED TO REMOVE RUHANI'S GUARD FROM THE DOOR?"

She shivered, and I looked at Adeena standing beside her.

"Bhaijaan, it i-,"

"Aahil,"

Tears started falling from her eyes, and I took the knife closer to her neck.

"Aahil, it is not like that; I did... we did not... know that... she was... she was pregnant. There was a short... shortage of soldiers in the battleground... so I thought to send them... for you,"

"You did not know that she was pregnant?"

I questioned, and she broke into tears.

"I swear to God, nobody knew, even though we did not see her for four months. I swear, Aahil If I had known that she was with child, I myself would have protected her from every odd. Please trust me,"

She cried and fell to her knees.

"Ye... yes Bhaijaan, she is right. We did not know that Bhabhijaan was pregnant," Adeena also cried, and I looked at Saeed behind her nodding his face with fear.

I laughed.

"You all take me for a fool? My wife was pregnant, she was with child, and no the fucking one knew? You never cared to visit her? What kind of woman are you?"

I gritted my teeth, looking at Adeena, and she cried.

"Bhaijaan, I wanted, but Ammi told me that we should not meet her until the war gets over. Moreover, she stopped meeting everyone all of a sudden,"

"Sultan,"

Suddenly my voice caught a familiar voice, and I turned my gaze to look at Shaheen. She was crying insanely, sitting on the floor.

"Sultan, she sent you letters so many times,"

She said, and I thinned my eyebrows.

"Letters?"

"Sultan,"

Then suddenly, the physician's voice caught my attention, and I ran towards her.

"Sultan, her heartbeats are slowing down. We have to increase the dose of her medicine immediately,"

"Do it,"

I replied immediately.

"But, it is risky,"

"What is the risk?"

I asked, looking at her face.

"We might lose her because she is too weak to consume that dose,"

I cried even more now. Bringing her finger close to my mouth, I slowly muttered to her.

"Ruhani, please hold onto your strength. You are so strong, my love,"

But, suddenly, her hand slipped through my hand, and I screamed.

"Ruhani... Ruhani... do not do it,"

And I felt my mother holding me from behind.

"Please, Aahil, calm down,"

I broke into tears, and I heard her ordering an attendee.

"Send a letter to Darmiyan and Hamid Sultanate to send their best physician teams urgently. And, send a letter to her parents too,"

I broke into more cries, and she muttered.

"She needs her family too, Aahil,"

I nodded and stated.

"Increase the dose, she has to come back to me,"

The physicians nodded and asked the ladies' helpers to strip her clothes and change them to lose one. Her body was cleaned before applying the paste on her body. I kept sitting beside her all the time, looking at her face without any reaction, so peaceful and calm but engaging a whole cyclone inside me.

I was dead without her. I was so sure of it. All I wanted right now was her; even if God wanted my life in exchange, I would consider it a cheaper deal.

I left her side only for a few moments only to perform the funeral of our baby. I asked him for his forgiveness by kissing his little feet and cried my heart out once again. I could not even imagine how much pain she bore without me. All the time I felt restless, uneasy and crying in the past six months was because she was suffering. And what did I do? I just oozed my brain with drugs to get rid of those emotions and ignored them.

I cursed myself with unbearable pain for not taking care of her.

I came back to the chamber and once again sat beside her. The whole day had passed, and now the time was for the night.

"Sultan,"

Suddenly the voice of an attendee caught my attention.

I looked in his direction, and he informed me.

"Rafiq Sultan has arrived with his family,"
