Ruhani POV

My mind was blasted.

Not because now I knew what was about to happen but because of the consequences following this set of actions.

This was a natural law. A particular set of actions would always have consequences, but those consequences could vary on account of the choices we make.

And, if I would think about the long-term consequences of what was about to happen. All I could see was destruction.

A war between my family that was planned by Ayzan Sultan would lead all three Sultanates to destruction. And, I still had to know if Ayzan would interfere in the war or if he would sit peacefully and enjoy the show.

My best guess was, that he would let all three Sultanates fight and strengthen his own with silence. And, in that case, this Sultanate would lose everything it had.

The strength, the resources and its families.

And, my mind was telling me that this would not stop there, if Ayzan Sultan could ask Aahil to fight against his own relatives then he could also demand his resources back. The soldiers, the attendees, and the servants because their loyalty lay in Rabia.

And, then we would actually be left with nothing. No family, no people and certainly nothing to rule.

"Bhabhijaan, what happened?"

Shaheen's voice caught my attention and I came out of my chain of thoughts.

I looked at her and then noticed the confused look on her face. The thinned eyebrows and dried tears with red eyes.

I inhaled a deep breath and looked at Shaheen as I was confused if I should tell her or not.

My mind unknowingly went back to one of the lessons that the Sultan gave me about trusting the people in the Sultanates.

He told me that I could only trust three people in this Sultanate. He did not even include his mother, brother and sister.

And, I immediately decided to not tell anything about it until I ensures our backup plan.

My lips immediately curved into a weak smile and I signalled shaheen to translate.

"It's nothing Shehzaadi, Begum wanted to see the distance between the two Sultanates,"

"Oh,"

Adeena said and washed her tears off her cheek. Coming closer, she hugged me and muttered slowly.

"Do not worry Bhabhijaan, Bhaijaan will not do any harm to Rehman Bhaijaan and Amir Haider,"

I nodded and inhaled a deep breath thinking that the safety of my husband was ensured because neither my father nor my brothers could cause him any harm.

And, if he loved me even a bit for real, he would also not cause any harm to my father and brothers. And, now he also had no reason to do so because he was enlightened about the reason of his father's death now.

The rest I left to the God to decide.

I closed my eyes and Adeena released the hug.

"I think, I should go. If Ammi finds out that I talked to you, she will unnecessarily scold you,"

I nodded and she left me there.

When she left, I thought and thought deeper, the set of actions and their reactions. And, with each one that I could see in front of my eyes, I could feel dangerous reactions.

Which, I needed to either stop or lessen its destruction.

And Suddenly, a thought came to my mind and I looked at Shaheen.

I asked her to gain information about the head commander of our army. Where was he and how could I meet him?

She nodded and left.

When she left I once again felt like throwing up. My chest felt uneasy and I looked around for something sour as my tongue was itching with a bad taste.

I gulped and my sight fell on the lemon that came with the food. The food was still plated on my table.

I took a few steps forward and picked it up. Bringing it closer to my lips, I sucked on it and my eyes shut close with a sour feeling. But, it immediately sent satisfaction down my nerves and I kept it back on the plate.

I did not know why suddenly my health was shifting.

I sat back on the bed and waited until Shaheen came back.

Suddenly.

"Begum,"

Shaheen came back and caught my attention.

"You can meet the head commander in two days. He is out of fort for some work,"

She informed and I nodded.

The head commander was the only person who could tell me about the start of the war. He was the only one who could enlighten me about the number of soldiers we have in the war and a few more things I wanted to gather information about.

But, before that, I had to make a few changes in the administration of the Sultanate. Now, since Rabia was no more here, I had to handle and balance the things so we could save the much we have.

I looked at Shaheen and asked her to join me in the servant quarters.

We both made our way towards it.

I entered the servant quarters and looked around. I could see the same chaos, the noise of babies crying, the unhygienic conditions and inequality.

The air of servant quarters was breathing of slavery and bullying.

I looked at Shaheen and asked her to call Shahnaaz who was the person responsible for handling the recruitment and financial disbursements of all the female staff.

And, until she came back I started to roam around. The maids stood up seeing me and I noticed an old lady on the bed. Her body was shivering and by looking at her face I could tell that she was suffering from some disease.

My eyebrows thinned and I walked towards her. Looking at me, she tried to wish me but I showed my palm gently to not get bothered.

I looked around and try to ask a few other women about her health. At first, they looked surprised and confused but then probably understood my gesture.

"Begum, she is having a fever for twenty days now,"

My eyebrows thinned and my heart felt pain listening to it. An old woman who spent her whole life in the Sultanate serving us was now suffering from pain and certainly not having the right treatment for her declining health.

I looked around and asked for a pen and paper if anyone had one. I looked at a small young girl who was watching me. She might have understood me as she ran and came back quickly with the almost dried inkpot and waste paper.

I put down an order for calling the female medication staff urgently here.

I passed it to an attendee and signalled her to take that letter to the person mentioned in that.

She left and I moved on with my tour forward. My sight noticed a few more sick ladies and I gasped looking at their number. The majority of them were malnourished and it made me feel so heartbroken.

Why the hell he never cared to look after them? Why only wars? Why did only the castles matter to him? Honestly, I hated him for not looking after them. There was no excuse, it was his responsibility and he clearly set his priority of gaining more rather than holding on to what he already had.

"Begum,"

My attention was caught by Shaheen and I looked at her. Beside her, there was a good-looking lady in her forties.

"Shehnaaz,"

Shaheen introduced and Shehnaaz bent in front of me paying me wishes. I returned the same gesture and I looked at Shaheen who walked beside me.

I signalled her to collect all the ladies in the compound. She nodded and passed on the message to the attendees standing outside the quarter's door.

The attendees announced my presence and blew the trumpets with a message at the end.

"EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO BE COLLECTED IN THE COMPOUND AT THE URGENT NOTICE,"

And, meanwhile, everyone collected, my sight fell on the group of physicians who just entered the servant quarters.

I stood in the middle and looked around the crowd. There were whispers, gossip and chaos going on between them as the majority of them were the ladies who either belonged to Rabia's Sultanate or were recruited from there.

I looked at Shaheen and asked her to translate for me.

"Now, Mehram-e-Aahil... Mallika-e-Sultanate... Sultana-e-Kainat... Begum Ruhani Sulaiman will take charge of the Royal Herem. Shehzaadi Rabia was a guest and we paid a heartful thanks to her for her loyal service to the Sultanate. But, now the legit Sultana will take charge of her Sultanates administration,"

She started and I felt slight goosebumps on my arms. I could see a few faces changing colours and then suddenly my sight fell on his mother and Adeena entering into the quarters. She gave me a threatening look but I ignored her and continued with my message.

"This is to inform you that Mallika-e-Sultanate, Mehram-e-Aahil has decided to bring in the most awaited amendments into the course of action. Please pay attention to the privileges and duties of your work. Because, from now on, No misbehaving would be left unanswered,"

She said and I noticed the pin drop silence now. I further signalled her and she translated it for them.

"The very first thing is the pay of you all. Since, the quarter has the attendees and servants working for the same type of jobs, their pay and time of service should be the same. The attendees who work from sunrise to sunset will be given fifty coins for their services. And, the attendees and servants who work after sunset and before sunrise will be given seventy coins,"

The whispers began again but Shaheen continued.

"The second thing is the benefits you all will be given. Each one of you can take three leaves in a month, which should not be continuous until informed beforehand. The medication staff will now pay attention to your needs. They will hear about your sickness and you will be treated well. A few of you will be allotted towards the hygiene and maintenance of the servant's quarters itself so that you all lead a healthy life here. And, now the most important thing,"

Shaheen took a break and inhaled a deep breath. I signalled her meanwhile the last thing I needed to tell them.

She nodded and continued with her translations.

"The most important thing is loyal service. The Begum is well aware of the fact that there are a few among you whose loyalty did not lay in the Sultanate but in Princess Rabia. You are now given an opportunity to end your service here and travel back to her, to her Sultanate from where you came. But, keep in mind that if you choose to stay now, anything against the well-being of our Sultanate will lead you to punishment that can be death too,"

She finished and suddenly one of them came in front to show the backlash.

"You cannot do this. My pay was eighty coins before, how can you make it fifty all of sudden,"

She said and I just looked at the attendees who caught her immediately. I showed them my palm to leave her and signalled Shaheen to translate.

"You can wholeheartedly leave and join wherever you find such pay. May be Ayzan Sultanate can do it for you,"

Shaheen ended with a teasing tone and she chuckled in front of us.

"Of course, they will. Sultana Rabia is much more caring for us than you,"

She said and now I smiled a little.

I signalled Shaheen and she translated it for them.

"Trust is a really important and powerful thing alive in the whole world. You cannot see or touch it but you can definitely feel it, precisely sense it. Begum is well aware of the fact that the last recruitment that was made from Ayzan Sultanate was six years ago. That means you all have worked here at least for six years now. And, if you now decide to go back you will be considered foreign to their lands. No doubt, your Shehzaadi Rabia will accept you there but a Sultanate is not just about a woman who would one day get married and leave that Empire. A Sultanate surely has many more people. You will certainly be given decent pay but how will ensure that it will be equivalent to the people who have already worked there for years? How will you ensure that you gain their trust and it will not be put into question? Just as I said in the beginning, trust is a really important thing. It is like a clay pot, one builds it with extra care, time and effort and a little bit of mishap can lead it to destruction. In their eyes, your clay pots are made here and this is a little mishap that is happening and if it leads to the destruction of your clay pots, they will never be built again. That is a rule of rulers. Once a traitor is always a traitor,"

Shaheen inhaled a deep breath and added something on her own.

"Baaki aap khud samajhdar hai or ishara dena hamara kaam hai,"

"Rest you all are sensible enough but it is our job to provide hints,"
