Ruffled Feathers Part 7

Author's Note: The Grian birb is a good species. He senses his mate needs help and gives him what he needs, but he also needs affection as payment.

 Mumbo:

Grian was still drinking out of his pond when I coughed.

" Chrrr?" Grian looked towards me and his eyes lit up. Grian waddled over to me happily and rubbed his head against my leg.

" Hey Grian...." I sighed as I walked deeper into the pen. Grian followed behind me happily as his wings twitched.

I put the syringe into my pocket and sat down on the floor. I wasn't going to dare scare Grian with any sign of the needle until I knew I had no other options.

The bird walked around me and promptly sat down at my side. He nuzzled against me and cooed as I put my hand on his head. This was an odd feeling still, but I had a mission to accomplish.

" Can I have this bit of your shirt Grian?" I questioned him as I moved my hand to the edge of Grian's still freshly bloodied shirt. Grian looked at the shirt and sniffed at it. He started to bite and rip at it.

I froze slightly as he ripped the fabric and dropped the bloody rag in front of me like a prey he had just caught.

I opened my inventory and grimaced as I moved the fabric into the box. Grian gave me a confused coo as he sniffed at me. He started to claw at my hand and try to move himself under between my arm.

Grian made a comfortable noise as he laid against me. I moved my arms so that I could still stand up if needed to. Why didn't I want to leave his side?

I thought for a moment. Grian was hurt after all. I just want to be there for him in case he accidently hurts himself.

The problem was that the longer I sit with him the longer Jevin has to wait. The longer Jevin waits the longer Grian and Joe have to wait for their possibly cure. I shook my head. I had to leave.

" Grian... I got to go mate." I sighed as I pushed myself away from Grian. The chicken perked up and immediately, " Rrrrrr...." his wings twitched as he got on all fours. He started to get into a pouncing position.

I shook my head and dug into my inventory to pull out a bundle of fish and a bag of seeds. Grian perked up at the sight of food.

" G-go fetch!" I stuttered as I threw the food to the far side of the room. Grian immediately chased the food and started to eat it up. I took the opportunity of escape and ran out of the pen locking the door behind me.

Grian perked up at the sound of the door closing. I walked to the front of the pen.

" I'm sorry Grian...." I whispered as Grian's tail twitched as he went back to eating his food. I guess food was the best distraction for dealing with this wild hermit after all. The only problem I had was Cub calling Grian a gremlin and swearing at him. That is honestly just rude in my opinion even if Grian isn't mentally sound.

I sighed and left the room back to Cub, Scar, and Jevin.

The scene in front of me was bizarre. Jevin was sticking to the ceiling with Scar and Cub watching him.

" I.... I still don't understand Americans." I facepalmed after Jevin dropped to the floor and quickly picked himself up with a smirk. Jevin sighed, " They dared me to do this out of boredom." he explained as I shook my head.

I let out a sigh and handed Jevin the bloody rag. He gently took the rag with a plastic bag that he pulled out of his inventory, " Do you think you can extract some blood from that?" I asked as Jevin nodded.

" Oh of course. This thing has a lot of Grian blood on it... It smells bad too...." he shook his head. I tilted my head, " I didn't smell anything." I frowned.

Jevin looked back at Cub and Scar. The two sniffed the air, " I smell it.... Yeah, that's some drying blood all right." Cub sighed as Scar nodded in agreement.

I crossed my arms as Jevin looked back at me, " You and Grian are so used to being near each other you can't smell the odd smells man." Jevin shrugged as he put the bag into his inventory.

Jevin turned to the door, " I'm going to get this tested and see what I can do. It'll take roughly a day to pull off, so I'll see you guys then." he waved us goodbye and left.

I sat down on my couch that was next to the bed.

" So, why would you dare Jevin to stick to my ceiling exactly?" I asked the two as Scar tiredly pointed at Cub as he crawled behind him and underneath the blanket.

Cub crossed his arms, " I was going to give him fifty diamonds, and a free Concorp product." he replied quickly as I raised my eyebrow.

" What's the catch?" I swiftly asked as I laid down on my couch. Cub gave me a jokingly offended scoff, " There's no catch. When was there ever a catch behind some Concorp related?"

" The time you guys gave Jevin that potion that turned his slime side pink?" I raised my eyebrow as Cub sighed, " Touché mustachioed man..." he smirked.

The two of us sighed, " So, how's your winged gremlin?" Cub asked as I crossed my arms and leaned back, " He's still acting like a bird, but I have an idea on how to figure out what caused this besides the potion of course."

Cub leaned forward and scratched at his beard. He motioned for me to explain my idea as he let out a yawn.

" You two know technology really well, so do you guys think you could figure out who made Grian's potion break?" I questioned as I handed him the video's file from my communicator.

Cub looked at the file with a smirk, " Yeah, I can. I'll go ahead and do it here. Is that okay with you?" he questioned as I nodded.

Cub stood up and immediately went to work on decrypting the file.

Scar had fallen back asleep with a small smile forming on his face. He seemed like he was almost completely well rested.

This left me all alone. I could go back and check on Grian, but I honestly needed a break from him. I cared for him deeply, but every time I look at him I just get a horrible twisting feeling in my gut.
