Nandani POV
"I was protecting you until you stepped into his chamber and slept with him,"
Listening to the hatred dripping from his mouth, I inhaled a sharp breath and tried to say.
"When you can steep so low that you slept with me for your so-called revenge. I too can sleep with someone for my revenge too. You started it,"
He left me with a jerk and looked at me silently for some time. His face could tell that he was angry, beyond angry but he did not say anything else and started taking his steps away from there.
I trembled as the fresh tears rolled down my cheeks.
He left me there and I sat on the bed. I was feeling angry, unhappy and then equally hurt.
He was not getting me. Why? Why the hell men could not take it?
Why the hell everything was just for us?
"Rani-sa,"
Suddenly, a feminine voice caught my attention and I washed my tears standing up.
My sight fell on an attendee and she informed me.
"Badi Rani has come to meet you,"
I furrowed my eyebrows but nodded, walking after her.
She took me towards the middle round part of the palace where she was waiting for me.
I saw her sitting on the couch with the attendees standing behind her holding big and wide plates covered with velvet clothes.
She noticed me and stood up.
I felt a little hesitant but walked closer to her to touch her feet. She touched my head and pulled me up by holding my shoulders.
"Greetings, Badi Rani-sa,"
I said with adjoined palms and she lifted my veil up which I pulled down before coming here and looked at my face.
"Call me Badi-Maa, Rudra calls me that. I am his aunt,"
I nervously looked at her and agreed.
"Ji,"
"What is your name?"
She asked.
"Ji, Nandani,"
"Nandani, such a beautiful name. Pardon me for my behaviour earlier. You should freshen up for the welcome prayers as the new bride of the Kingdom,"
She exclaimed and I nodded.
"Ji,"
"Also, he did not tell me anything about your wedding. Why? all of a sudden?"
She asked and I blinked nervously.
"Badi-ma, I think it would be better if Ranaji tells you everything. I do not think it is my place to tell things,"
And, hearing me she smiled slightly.
"You know him very well,"
I gulped and lowered my gaze.
"He is getting ready, come with him in the prayer hall,"
I nodded and she turned her feet to leave but suddenly stopped.
"Also, all these are gifts for you. The attendees will tell you when to wear these,"
I nodded and the attendees kept those plates on the tables.
She left and I sat on the couch for a moment.
Closing my eyes I inhaled a sharp breath. Everything he said was ringing in my head like bells.
"Nandani,"
Suman called and I looked at her.
"You should freshen up,"
I nodded and stood up from there. The new attendees took me to the bathing place again and they helped me remove all my jewellery.
Keeping them safe in the corner, I stripped naked to take a quick bath.
After the bath, I changed into one of the fresh pairs that his aunt brought to me. The red one was beautiful.
The attendees helped me to wear all my jewellery back because I could not take them off before my wedding night. It was my sacred wedding jewellery.
I got ready again and came out to the meeting hall again.
My sight fell on him sitting on the couch. He lifted his gaze to look at me and stood up from his place saying.
"Come,"
I gulped and walked towards him. Pulling my veil down, I joined him in walking through the same galleries and gardens and he took me to the prayer hall.
I looked at the priest and Badi Maa already waiting for us.
I greeted both of them respectively.
"Please sit here,"
The priest asked both of us to sit around the holy fire again.
He asked us to put a few things in the fire and chanted some mantras.
"Now, you both should pray to the deity,"
I stood up along with him and stood in front of God with both my hands adjoined.
Inhaling a sharp breath and I spoke with silence.
Nothing was possible without you dear God, you brought us and I trust you that whatever you would do, it would be for our good.
After serving the prayers. I touched the feet of Badi Maa and the priest.
I also moved to touch his feet sitting low but he stopped me in midways touching my shoulder.
He awkwardly took his hands away from my shoulder and I looked at Badi Maa who pulled my veil up.
I kept my gaze low and she looked at him.
She brought the holy plate having vermillion, turmeric, and rice with the sacred flame in front and I blinked nervously when he picked up the vermillion from the plate and filled it again in the partition of my hair.
It again fell a little on my nose and I felt him rubbing my nose a little with his small finger.
"May god bless both of you,"
Badi Maa said and she looked at him.
"Your wife did not tell me but I want to know the reason. Why did you do this?"
He abruptly took a step back and looked at her.
"It was nothing, Badi Maa,"
I lowered my gaze again and she looked at me.
"Now, you should take a rest. I will send dinner for both of you in your palace,"
I smiled slightly and walked closer to her.
"Badi Maa, I do not like elders working for me,"
She smiled back and cupped my cheek gently with her hand.
"I will let you do the work when it will be time,"
I blinked and she smiled.
"By the way, you are so beautiful,"
I lifted my gaze and looked at her.
"Thank you so much,"
"Now, go back to your chamber,"
She said and I nodded.
She sent both of us and the attendees joined us as soon as we came out of the prayer hall.
Suddenly, he changed his way and walked towards another direction without saying anything.
Suman walked to me with other attendees and I came back to my chamber.
I walked towards the bedroom and sat on it. After some time, I lay on it and looked at the roof designs, and details of the interior and did not know when I fell asleep.
I woke up when Suman called me.
"Nandani,"
I lifted my eyelashes and looked at her.
"It is late evening now, you should get up,"
I nodded and stepped down from the bed.
Walking towards the mirror I corrected my jewellery, hair and beautiful red pair of Lehnga.
"Your dinner arrived, Rani-sa,"
An attendee came and informed me. I turned my sight to her and asked her in a slow voice.
"Where is Ranaji?"
Well, I could not call him by his name in front of anyone except when we were alone. We were not allowed to call husband by their name.
But, I had always called him by his name so it was pretty difficult to change. And, the first step towards change was to stop taking his name in front of others.
"Ranaji is busy with the soldiers. He is helping with the dressings of their wounds,"
I nodded and told her.
"Has he eaten yet?"
She shook her head.
"No, Rani-sa, he has not,"
Though my stomach was growling with hunger but it was my first day. I should not be eating before him or at least when, when he was busy taking care of the soldiers. He once told me that he always eats when each of his soldiers eats.
And, I did not think that becoming the King would bring any change to that fact.
"Take back the food. I will wait for him,"
She nodded and I sat on the couch.
"Please sit, Suman,"
I said to her and she asked me in a slow voice.
"What are you thinking?"
She asked and I looked at her.
"I want to help the soldiers too. They are wounded, but being a newlywed it would be too soon to interfere in the matters of the Kingdoms,"
She nodded.
"Yes, you are right. Also, we do not know who is good and who is evil for you,"
I nodded and walked towards the window of the bedroom. I looked at the moon and starry night through it.
I did not know but I was missing my family now. There were so many people to talk to.
And, here was so boring already.
The night grew darker and I was no longer feeling hungry.
"You should go to sleep, Suman,"
I said to her and then turned to look at her.
She had fallen asleep on the couch. I smiled looking at her sleeping face. She also got tired of travelling and all.
I picked up the comforter from the bed and covered her.
I walked towards the resting area which was opened to the garden. I needed to breathe.
The chamber had also grown darker, the light lamps were getting off.
I reached there and looked at him lying on the floor over the carpet on his stomach. Beside him, there was an untouched plate of food and a medicine bowl.
I walked slowly towards him. He was lying half naked with his wounds open. There were so many cuts, a few were deep.
Looking at him like this made my heart ache and I sat beside him.
Holding the bowl in my hands, I collected a small amount of medicinal paste in my hand and inhaled a sharp breath to do it carefully, not to wake him up.
I touched the deep wound first and featherly applied it. My hands never trembled to do it before to the soldiers, but touching his wounds were making me nervous.
I looked at his face and realised that he was awake. He was just staring at the moon silently.
"You do not have to do this,"
He exclaimed in a slow voice and I continued doing it.
"This is my duty and right since we are husband and wife now,"
"Bhojan kyu nahi kiya hai abhi tak?"
"Why haven't you eaten yet?"
He asked in a slow voice and I replied.
"Aapne bhi to nahi kiya hai,"
"You have also not eaten yet,"
Slowly, he inhaled a sharp breath and turned on his back. My gaze noticed his naked and wounded body in the moonlight.
I blinked nervously looking at his abs which were so fine and his muscles that were visible. Especially the veils that were there on his lower abdomen and getting hidden in his lower.
I collected more paste in my hand and touched a deep wound cut on his stomach. Applying the paste slowly I asked.
"Why did you not get your wounds dressed?"
He closed his eyes for a moment and muttered.
"I will, after each one of my soldiers gets medicine for their wounds"
I blinked after hearing and slowly he moved his hand.
And he touched my wrist. The noise of my bangles echoed in the silent place and he delicately held my henna-inked hand and looked at my palm.
And, after staring at my palm for some moments he jerked my hand low and straightened himself to stand up to walk up.
But I immediately held his hand and said in a soft voice.
"Ranaji, I cannot eat before you, at least not on our first day after the wedding. Please have some food for me,"
He turned to look into my eyes and sighed before sitting back on the carpet.
Pulling the plate, he tore a bite and forwarded his hand towards me.
"You do not have to do this,"
He said and I opened my mouth to grab the bite. Chewing slowly, I gulped and he slowly fed me two chapatis.
He did not eat and neither did I insist more. He helped me drink the water and laid back in his place.
I looked at his wounds again and continued applying the paste.
On his abs, his chest, the side of his waist, his biceps, his arms, one small one on the wrist and a dangerous one near his neck.
But, for that one, I had to shift closer and I leaned into him to reach his neck. His eyes were closed.
And, the moment my finger touched his neck, he opened his eyes and looked at me.
A strong shiver ran down my spine and he looked into my eyes.
I blinked nervously and he exclaimed.
"You cannot seduce me,"
"Neither I am doing,"
I replied.
"Then why are you here? You should be in the bed,"
I inhaled a sharp breath.
"I should be there where my husband is sleeping,"
He moved my hand away from his neck and said looking into my eyes.
"I do not sleep in chambers, over the beds,"
I gulped and put the bowl aside.
"Then, I will sleep on the floor too,"
I said and immediately exclaimed.
"No, you are not. Go back to the bedroom and sleep there,"
I shook my head and pulled my dupatta down from my head. Removing my earring I looked at him.
"You cannot tell me what to do or what not,"
Keeping the earrings aside I kept them in the corner too. He was watching my every move closely and said in a slow voice.
"It gets cold at night,"
I moved my hand behind my neck to remove my necklace and muttered in a slow voice.
"It's alright, I will love to shiver in cold,"
And, my fingers could not find the knot of it. I pulled my hand low and turned opposite to him.
"Please help me. All the attendees have slept,"
He sighed and waited for a few moments. But, then brought his fingers carefully close to my nape and started opening it. His fingers took complete care of not touching me even by mistake.
I took it off and turned back to him. Keeping it aside, I lay beside him and kept my head low on the floor. It was very uncomfortable and especially with the heavy clothes and jewellery on.
He turned his face to the opposite side of me and I closed my eyes too.
I did not know but whatever happened in the past few months. Now, it was all feeling peaceful. I did not know if it was right or wrong but it was peaceful.
And, suddenly in the middle of night I started shivering.
