(Y/N)'s POV

Me: But if the link is not severed we will start to share memories and emotions. You will get the pain too.

Ruby: I dont care.

Where?

Why does she have to be so stubborn?! Why does she care so much? She knows my failures. She knows how I failed my friends when they needed me the most and she knows being with me will only put her at risk of getting hurt? Why does she not listen? I lay back down on my bed. Why can't she just move on? I know she likes me but it's just better if she doesn't get too close. And why do I get this pain when I think of Ruby leaving?! I hesitate to punch the wall. With how much we have "linked" she would probably feel it. I lay my arm across my face and close my eyes. I just don't want to lose her like I did the others.

"Hey (Y/N)! GET UP!" With a start, I fall out of my seat in the bullhead and land with a thud. Looking up I am greeted by Rudi laughing at my expense. Auburn weakly hits Rudi's arm and Jay holds his hand out to help me up.

"C-come on Rudi. That is v-very rude of you." Rudi just laughs more at our meek teammate.

"Oh come on Auburn. I'm just having a little fun." I grab Jay's hand while they bicker.

"You know with how much those two argue one might confuse them for a couple," I say that with a laugh and then notice that Jay is still holding my hand. "Hey, Jay you can let go now. I'm fine."

"Oh, sorry bud." He quickly lets go of my hand and rubs the back of his neck. Rudi notices this and laughs. Jay begins to blush a little at this.

"So why did you wake me up?" Auburn answers for Rudi.

"W-well w-we arrive and Jay asked Rudi to w-wake y-you. Granted n-now that was a pretty p-poor idea. S-sorry." I pat Auburn on the back.

"It's cool man." Jay then lets out a loud cough to get everyone's attention.

"Still sorry about that bud. Anyways let's get going." He then nudges Rudi's arm. "Sooner we get back the sooner we can get to training right Rudi?" At the word "training" Rudi perks up.

"Oh hell yeah! Let's do this!" He rushes out the door. Jay chuckles a little bit.

"I better make sure he focuses on the mission and doesn't get distracted some cute village teen. Auburn come with me while (Y/N) thanks the pilot." Auburn nods his head and follows Jay out. Turning I head to the cockpit.

"Hey, thanks for the lift guys. We rendezvous back at this time tomorrow right?" The both of the pilots nod their heads and the female one speaks up.

"Yup. Oh, and be careful kid." I smirk at that.

"Oh, we will be fine. Thanks for the concern miss." I make my way out of the airship and meet up with my team. Rudi notices first.

"Hey (Y/N) you get the pilot's number?" He wiggles his eyebrows and I laugh at his immaturity.

"Which ones? The guy's or the girl's?"

"Either one."

"No." He gets crestfallen at that. "Maybe when they come back to get one of their numbers." He perks back up at that.

"Yeah but I'll have to work quick or else Jay might get the guy." Before we can continue Auburn walks up.

"G-guys Jay says we need to get g-going."

"Alright." All three of us then go and meet up with Jay on the outside of the village. Once we are in the forest Rudi asks Jay.

"So what we after?"

"Well, the village leader didn't really have much more than what we already know. The Grimm are acting weird we need to figure out why. The only thing she had that was of any interest was that the Grimm and trees seem to all have some weird cuts across their armor and bark respectively." Well, that's weird. Rudi scoffs at this and puts his hands behind his head.

"Well, that helps about as much as a match in a snow storm." Auburn then speaks up.

"If its claw m-marks then maybe it's a really strong animal like a b-bear or a l-lion." Rudi laughs at that.

"Really? A lion out here?" Auburn shrinks away from us and Jay steps in.

"Rudi we talked about this." Said teammate rolls his eyes. Jay then turns to Auburn. "I think if it's a lion then it would have to be a mountain lion." Auburn perks back up at this. Leave it to the team leader to calm the situation.

"Well, whatever it is I am sure we can handle it. Right, guys?" All of the others smile at my words. Just then we enter a clearing in the woods. Looking around we all stop after noticing a humanoid figure standing in the shadows. Auburn moves forward but before he can say anything the figure rushes forward and stabs Auburn in the chest with its clawed hand and then rips out his sternum. Auburn drops to the ground and I feel a part of myself shut down.

"Graaa!" I fall to the ground clutching my chest.

"You bastard!" Rudi runs forward with his weapons drawn. Jay activates his gauntlet and jumps to punch the monster only to miss and destroy a tree. Kneeling there I reach out a cradle Auburn.

"A-auburn! Come on A-auburn wake up! Please wake up!" I don't know why I do this. I know he's dead. I felt it yet I still hold on in some vain attempt to bring my friend back. I lower my head. "Please..." The others fight while I do this. I hear the irate roars of Rudi as he tries repeatedly to hit the thing.

"I'll kill you! I'll fucking kill you!" I'm sure his uproars can be heard throughout the forest. Looking over at Jay I see tears streaming down his face as he assaults the thing only to get backhanded and thrown into a nearby tree. From my left, I hear snarls and the bushes near Jay start to rustle. Then a horde of Grimm descend on us and I hear a hissing noise come from the thing they are fighting. Jay gets up and tries to get Rudi's attention.

"Rudi! We need to get out of here!" His voice falls on deaf ears as Rudi rages on against the monster.

"Die you bastard!" Rudi unleashes an onslaught of strikes at this beast but the thing dodges causing the blows to only agitate the creatures of Grimm even more. Jay runs over and grabs my arm.

"(Y/N) we got to go!"

"B-but-"

"I said let's go!" Just as he starts to pull me up an Ursa sneaks up on us and rips Jay's arm off. Feeling his pain as well we both let out screams.

"AAAAH!" Our screams catch Rudi's attention. Just as he turns to look at us the creature takes the opportunity to attack. Using its claw arm he stabs Rudi in the head. Oh Oum I can feel it!

I clutch my head with my good arm. Auburn is dead, Rudi is dead, and Jay is laying motionless on the ground. Through the pain and tears, I see the creature lumber towards Jay with its claws ready to strike. Seeing that I hear a snapping sound and leap towards it. The following fight is a blur. I punch it in the gut and it kicks me in the leg. I smash its face into the ground and it slashes mine with its claw. I pick it up and throw it into a tree. Panting I stay there stunned at everything that has happened. When it rises I hear a hissing sound and then it speaks in its nightmarish voice.

"Yesss.... More give me more...." It lunges at me and I grab a nearby Creep and throw it at the thing sending them backward. I then hear Jay's wheezing for air and rush to grab him. Using one of my smoke bombs I distract the Grimm and make a mad dash away from that thing. I continue running and running until my legs nearly give out and I keep running. Once I am finally stopped I fall to the ground and clutch onto what remains of my partner's arm. I am shaken from my poor attempts to help my friend by him using his good arm to wipe my tears off of my face.

"D-don't w-worry J-jay I c-can f-fix this." He weakly smiles at me.

"(Y/N) stop...*wheeze* W-we both know *cough* there is n-no coming back from this... " He then takes the necklace from his neck and weakly hands it to me. I take the prized object from my friend and clutch it in my free hand.

"N-no." He smiles again.

"(Y/N)."

"What is it J-jay?" He coughs before continuing.

"I... I always w-wanted to *cough* tell you some *cough* thing." I stop him before he can continue.

"I know Jay. I know." He smiles at this before coughing once more and then closing his eyes. I shake him. "Jay? Jay come on. Jay! Please, Jay! Please don't leave me, Jay! I've already lost Rudi and Auburn so please don't leave me! I don't want to be alone again! PLEASE!"

I am jolted from my nightmare with the vibrations of my scroll. Wiping the tears away I look at the message. It's just a notification that I don't have to be at any classes for awhile. Nothing important. Pressing back I see Ruby's message again.

"Where?" Letting out a sigh I try once more to send her away.

Me: Are you sure?

Almost within a second of sending it I get a response.

Ruby: Yes (Y/N) I am 100% sure.

Now where do you want to meet?

I cave in.

Me: Library
