personality
Mariana is honestly more likely to punch you in the face than be nice to you. It's easy to see that she is commanding and determined. She knows what she wants and will not let anyone stop her from getting it. Her strategic nature normally seems to help her get to her end goal. Yet, despite her extremely hard exterior, she is one of the most loyal people you will ever meet. She may not be the nicest person around when you first meet her, but she is an excellent ally and captain. Once you get on her goodside and she trusts you, it's hard to get off of it. As long as you have her back, she'll have yours. Just don't do anything dumb - you don't want to go up against her if you can avoid it. Marina is normally clear-headed. She's mastered the art of keeping her emotions out of big decisions, going off of knowledge, logic, and her gut instead of her heart. This also makes her a very fair person. The line can sometimes blur when you bring in the elements of right and wrong - she is a pirate, after all, so what she does isn't morally right by most standards - but she is an upfront and forthright leader. She has a high intelligence to go along with her biting wit, making her not only someone you wouldn't want to fight physically, but also someone you wouldn't want to engage in a verbal battle with. When added to how observant she is, there is no telling what she could bring up in an argument.

backstory
Mariana was the first - and only - born of a newly married and happy couple. Her father was an explorer, and was often gone for months at a time before returning home. He was also a fantastic story teller. When he returned home, he would tell her tales of magnificent lands that he had seen, the people that he had met, and everything else that he could describe. As time went on, his trips got longer. Her mother would get upset when he told her that he had to go out again. Then one day, when Mariana was ten years old, he didn't return. She didn't know if something happened to him, if he found some place that he didn't want to leave, if he was dead at the bottom of the ocean, or anything else that she could think of. Everything went into a downward spiral after that. Her mother's temper got even shorter. Mariana had no one she felt comfortable talking to. The world seemed like a sad, barren place without her father's stories to fill it up. So, when a few ships docked at the port one night and she met a kid her age who was on them, it was a no brainer: she would go out onto the seas, just like her father did. Once her bag was packed, she was set. She took to it naturally, and soon enough, she managed to rise through the ranks, becoming captain of the ship. And she has never looked back.

other
It is very unlikely to see Mariana without her cutlass and dagger. She almost always has them on her or in very close reach. She also has a compass that she keeps in her cabin - unless it is on her person. It belonged to her father and is one of the few things she has left of him. She has quite a knack for reading maps and very strong sealegs.

name
Jasper Caldwell

aliases
Caldwell

age
Twenty years old

sexuality
Heterosexual

faceclaim
Cameron Monaghan

personality
Though you may not guess it based on what he does, Jasper is a pretty good guy. He almost seems too nice, too innocent to be doing this. But don't let his face fool you. He may be young, but he is as wise and experienced as they come. He relies not only on his experience but his gut instincts, and his intuition has never led him down the wrong path. He is surprisingly perceptive. He can sense when a mood has shifted, can tell when someone is lying, and even claims that he can feel when something bad is about to happen. Also surprisingly, he has a strong moral compass. He has a natural sense of what is right and wrong, and is the person you would want to call to break up an argument. Though he is normally on the more serious side, this doesn't mean he isn't friendly. He freely cracks jokes around his buddies and it is very unlikely to see him without some sort of smile on his face. He seems to have this permanent glint in his eye, one that never goes away. It makes sense, given his taste for mischief and adventure. In addition, Jasper is selfless. He is always looking out for those he cares about and would do anything to help them out. He could be a leader if he wanted to. He has all of the important qualities of one and could fill the position if needed. But he definitely prefers being the right-hand man. Life just seems to be more fun without all of the extra responsibility that comes with being the leader.

backstory
Jasper's life has never been easy or picture-perfect, and that was plain to anyone who met him. He was the second child, born three years after his older brother. From the moment he entered the world, he knew it wasn't fair. His parents weren't good people. Even as a child he knew that. His mother and father only had a small house to their name. With practically no money, they taught their sons how to pick-pocket from people on the street, how to give adults the sad eyes so they would give them the loose change in their pockets. Even as a child, Jasper knew none of this was right. Yes, they needed the money, but this was not the way to go about it. His older brother knew this, too. So, as soon as his brother was fifteen and he was twelve, they started hatching a plan for how to run away. During the day they pretended to go along with their parents' plans. But at night, they were up, scheming for a way to get out of here. When a ship arrived, it seemed like the perfect plan for them to get away. They both packed the necessities and when night fell, they left. They ran as fast as they could. But what Jasper didn't realize until he was at the dock near where they lived was that his brother wasn't behind him. The two had gotten separated somehow on the way to the dock, leaving Jasper to board the ship alone.

other
Jasper is an amazing liar. He can spin tales in seconds flat without giving away anything or showing any sign that he's lying. He can also spot a liar from a mile away. He's like a human lie detector. When he can't sleep - which is pretty often - he goes above deck and looks out at the stars. He can name a good amount of constellations.
