Sapphire pov

"Do you understand the plan?"

"Mm!"

My heart pounds with excitement and fear.

I'm excited because of what we- we being myself and Ruby- are about to do.

I'm afraid because of what's at stake. And something else.

We haven't done anything this big yet. Usually we cut wires, or send a mixed message over the intercom.

On one of our trips, I hesitated. I saw we would get caught- Jadeite was lurking around the corner. But Ruby grabbed my wrist and pulled me into an air vent. We landed one atop the other, panting for breath and furiously blushing.

"Oh- *pant* sorry Sapphire."

"It's- *pant* okay."

"Hey, are you sure you wanna do this?" Ruby asks, eyes full of fear.

"Don't worry,  I can't wait!" I grab her wrist and run, a nice variety for once. We duck behind  a furnace as a gem covered in so much dust I can't see her gem rushes past.

We continue like this, sneaking through the power plant, leaving timed bombs as we run giggling.

"Sapphire." Ruby says, putting her hand on my shoulder before I run to place the last bomb.

"Ruby, we need to go soon!" I protest, pulling away a little.

"But there's something I need to tell you," Ruby says calmly, stepping out to meet me.

I know what's coming, and even though I feel the same way... I just can't.

"Sapphire, I knew you were special from the moment I saw you, and-"

"Damnit Ruby, we have to go!" The sounds of the plant fill my ears, and I slam my hands up to block them.

"Sapphire, I'm trying to tell you something important!" Ruby yells. I cringe and fall to the ground, writhing in pain.

"Ruby what the hell? We need to get the hell out of here!"

"Sapphire I love you! I think you're perfect!" I sit up, still covering my ears. My hair has fallen everywhere, revealing my eye.

"But I'm not!" I'm just some experimental monster! I have one eye, I can see the future, my own mother doesn't even give a damn about who I am, as long as I'm stable!" I stand up, tears streaming in a waterfall down my face. "How the hell do you know I'm perfect?"

"Because of this."  Ruby grabs my face and crashes her lips into mine, my cold tears mixing with her hot tears.

"Ruby..." The alarms on the bombs start beeping.

"There's no time!" Ruby grabs me bridal style and starts running, the first few explosions lighting up behind us.

"Run!" I yell, noticing the flames before us. "Put me down!" Ruby does, and I freeze over the flames. "Come on!"

We run through, slipping on the ice. Ruby grabs me, and we spin, until...
