Ruby pov

White Diamond's Pearl stands before us, a bead of sweat dripping down her neck.

"How do we know we can trust you?" I demand, putting my hands on my hips.

"Ruby." Sapphire puts her hand on my shoulder. "She'll be loyal. Trust me." Up close I can notice little differences in this Pearl.

Her gem is ovualar, Defective from the original round shape. She's shorter than most Pearls. Her nose is slightly longer.

"Did my sister set you up to this?" Pink Diamond demands.

My heartbeat increases. I have never been scared of her until now.

"N-no!" The Pearl takes a deep breath to compose herself. "My loyalties lay with you, my Diamond. " Pink Diamond's gaze softens, as if she's remembering her caring state.

"Why do you switch loyalties?"

"B-because I am defective! The other Diamonds do not see me fit to serve in their courts! And because I agree with you, life is worth saving!" I look at Sapphire,  only to see her grab Pink Diamond's hand.

"I see... I trust you, Pearl." Pearl smiles, seemingly content.

"So what should I do? The other Diamond's sent me away!" Pink thinks for a moment.

"We'd need to get to a planet to warp, so our best bet is to get off the satellite!"

"But Aunt Pink, Aunt Yellow would never let a Ruby leave! Nevermind what Mother would do!" We all turn to Pearl.

"What?" She asks, confused.

"Well, we need a way to get us all off the satellite, watcha got?" I ask.

She thinks, rubbing her chin.

"If only we had two of the same gem. A fusion would be believable enough to-"

"Look no further." I look over at Sapphire, shocked.

"What do you mean?" Pink asks.

"After the explosion, Ruby and I accidentally fused! I bet we can do it again!" Everyone is silent.

"Is this true, Ruby? "

"Yeah, but it was different. Usually it's just me, but bigger. But this is like a whole new person..." Sapphire eagerly grabs my hand, leading me in a dance.

"Hmm Hmm Hmm Hmm Hmm..."

"A fusion of two different gems? How is this possible? " Pearl asks.

"I'm not sure." I answer. I guess I am the answer. Taking a few steps, I finally feel like I've got the hang of things.

And then I fall.
