Ruby's pov

Yang and I walked off the bullhead and made our way up to the courtyard of Beacon. Y/n is also back in my hood.

Both: Wow.

Yang: Vale's got nothing on this.

I was about to continue that conversation when I started noticing everyone's weapons.

Ruby: Ohmygosh, sis! That kid's got a collapsible staff! And she's got a fire sword!

I was about to get a closer look when I get pulled back by my hood.

Yang: Easy there, little sister they're just weapons.

Ruby: Just weapons Just weapons'? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us! Oh, they're so cool! And Y/n is a literal weapon too.

He makes a single blade pop out over the top of himself.

Yang: Well, why can't you swoon over your own weapon? Aren't you happy with it?

Ruby: Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose! I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people, but better...

Yang playfully pushes my hood down over my face and causing y/n to fall out.

Yang: Ruby, come on, why don't you go try and make some friends of your own?

I take my hood of my cloak off and Y/n hops back into to it.

Ruby: But... why would I need friends if I have you?

Yang: Well... Actually, my friends are here. Gotta go catch up. 'Kay, see ya, bye!

Her and her friends rush by my causing me to spin as I have multiple questions run through my head.

Ruby: Wait, where are you going?! Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? Do we have dorms? I don't know what I'm doing...

I fall over on to someone's luggage as I look up I see someone in white.

???: What are you doing?

Ruby: Sorry.

???: Do you have any idea of the damage you could've caused?

I grab one of her suitcases to try and help but she just snatches it from me.

???: Gimme that. This is dust mined and purified from the Schnee quarry.

I try to check if Y/n is alright but I don't feel him in my hood.

Ruby: Huh?

???: What are you brain dead? Dust, fire, water, lightning, energy.

Ruby: Y/n, where are you?

I look around for him as something starts irritating my nose.

???: Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do have to say for yourself?

I then proceed to sneeze causing a small explosion with fire and ice. After the smoke cleared I see Y/n bouncing back over to me. He bounced into my arms as  the prissy princess finally gets a hold of the situation.

Princess: Unbelievable. This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about! What are you even holding now that wasn't with you a second ago!

Ruby: This is Y/n, my combat pet, and I was looking for him after I fell on your stupid luggage.

Princess: How is that... that thing a combat pet? It looks like it's supposed to be bait if anything.

Y/n seemed angry and forms a blade and slashes one of her metal looking suitcases in half as he drops down out of my hands.

???: What uh ugh? I stand corrected but this isn't your ordinary combat school so watch where your going?

Ruby: Okay I've been trying to say sorry this whole time Princess!

???2: It's heiress, actually.

We look over and see a girl all in black coming over.

???: Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee dust company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world.

Weiss: Finally, some recognition!

???: The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners.

Weiss: What- how dare- the nerve of!

I chuckle as she tries to think of a comeback but just grabs her dust vial and leaves.

Ruby: I promise to make it up to you! I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day. So what's-?

I turn to the girl in black as she starts to leave. I proceed to just get on my knees as Y/n hops into my lap again.

Ruby: At least I still have you Y/n.

Someone else walks up to me and puts a hand down to help me up probably not noticing my hands being full.

Jaune: Hi I'm Jaune.

Ruby: I'm Ruby and this is Y/n.

I get back up not taking his hand for help realizing something.

Ruby: Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?

Timeskip to the next day (mostly because the interactions with Y/n are still minimal and the story is largely the same with just minor changes till initiation mostly because it's Ruby introducing him and I'd rather get to the meat of this story)

So I learned the girl from yesterday name is Blake made friends with vomit boy named Jaune along with a lengthy discussion about motion sickness. I'm currently in the locker room getting ready as a ginger named Nora and a boy named Ren walk by Yang and I.

Ruby: Wonder what those two were so worked up about.

Yang: Oh who knows... so! You seem awfully chipper this morning.

Ruby: Yep! No more awkward small talk or getting to know you stuff. Today I get to let my sweetheart and Y/n do the talking.

Y/n jumped out and on to the bench and looked like he was trying to do some pose.

Yang: Well, remember Ruby, your not the only one going through initiation. If you want to grow up, you're going to have to meet new people and learn to work together.

Ruby: Ugh, you sound like dad! Okay first of all what does meeting new people have to do with fighting? And secondly, I don't need people to help me grow up. I drink milk!

Yang: But what about when we form teams?

Ruby: I don't know I'll just be on your team or something...

Yang: Maybe you should try being on someone else's team?

I feel Y/n hoping into my hood as she said this.

Ruby: My dearest sister Yang, are you implying that you do not wish to be on the same team as me or Y/n for that matter!?

Yang: What!? No! Of course I do, I just thought... I don't know, maybe help you break out of your shell.

Ruby: What the?! I don't need to break out of my shell that's absolutely ridiculous.

Jaune walks by us going on about looking for his gear.

Yang: The only real reason you had friends at signal is because I helped you or they started talking to you. You really spent most of your time with Y/n your pet slime after training and playing with me of course but still. (Mumbling) If you could you'd probably date Y/n.

Ruby: Excuse me?!

Yang: Nothing!

Glynda: (over intercom) Would all first year students please report to Beacon cliff for initiation? Again all first year students report to Beacon cliff immediately.

We start making our way out of the locker room and see Jaune fall to the floor after the spear through his hoodie was pulled out with its owner leaving with Weiss.

Yang: Having trouble there ladykiller?

Jaune: I don't understand... My dad said all women look for is confidence. Where did I go wrong!?

I help Jaune up as Yang starts leaving.

Yang: Snow angel probably wasn't the best start.

Ruby: Come on, Jaune. Let's go.

Timeskip

We were all standing on some grey plate which I'm guessing is a launch pad since that's what Uncle Qrow told me.

Ozpin: For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest.

Glynda: Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today.

Ruby: What? Ohhh...

Ozpin: These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well.

Ruby: (groaning)

Ozpin: That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years.

Ruby: Whaaaat?!

Nora: See? I told you-!

Ozpin: After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die. You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?

Jaune: Yeah, um, sir?

Ozpin: Good! Now, take your positions.

Everyone strikes a pose on their tile. Nora crouches low, Ren wields his weapons, Yang raises her fists, Ruby readies her body, and Jaune is still raising his hand.

Jaune: Uh, sir? I've got, um... a question. So, this landing... strategy thing... Uh, wha-what is it? You're, like, dropping us off or something?

Ozpin: No. You will be falling.

Jaune: Oh, uh, I see... So, like, did you hand out parachutes for us?

Ozpin: No. You will be using your own "landing strategy."

Jaune: Uh-huh... Yeah.

At her turn, Yang winks at me, puts on a pair of aviators, and flies off with a "Woo-hoooooooo!" a second before I join her. I pull out Crescent Rose and proceed to try and slow down as I go head first into a baby nevermore I fire a few rounds off and transform it to scythe mode and hook a tree and swinging on a branch and rolling on the ground.

Ruby: Okay Y/n first order of business is to find Yang.

I feel my hood after landing and not feeling him in there.

Ruby: Huh what oh Y/n! Did you land nearby?! Okay better find partner and get a relic first so I don't get expelled and on the way back find Y/n.

3rd person

Somewhere else in the forest we find Y/n hoping along with his blades out and to the sides ready to cut any Grimm that comes his way. He was heading into a direction that he thought would be to the temple but in reality he was heading the wrong way. After a good amount of time going said wrong way he started to hear growling and fighting.

???: Ahhhh.

Y/n then proceeded to bounce over to the scream faster. He found a small clearing with multiple dead beowolves and a Ursa. Gunshots could be heard and the Ursa standing over a fox faunus fell to the ground as the fox faunus lying on the ground with multiple wounds. Y/n bounces over to him as he is bleeding out.

Faunus: Damn I... don't want... to be fucking... Grimm food.

As he closes his eyes we see Y/n slowly consume him as to give him a grave that even Grimm can't get to.

Timeskip

We now see the group of eight beside the temple and relics as the deathstalker slowly approaches them.

Yang: Great now we can all die together.

Ruby: Not if I can help it. *war cry*

She proceeds to charge straight at the ancient and giant deathstalker with it batting her away with one of its giant claws.

Ruby: Don't worry totally fine.

She fires two rounds to its face plate doing nothing before retreating back to the others with Yang trying to meet her halfway. The nevermore that Ruby and Weiss angered fires its giant feathers down snagging Ruby's cloak and stopping Yang's advance towards Ruby.

Yang: Ruby get out of there!

Said girl tugs and tries her best to free her cloak to no avail.

Ruby: I'm trying.

The deathstalker was in a position to try and stab poor Ruby with its poisonous stinger. As it comes down Ruby reflectively closes her eyes as someone comes from the nearby treeline deflecting the stinger into the ground causing it to get stuck.

???: Well I thought you could have handle yourself much better then this.

Ruby opens her eyes to see the deathstalker struggling to free its tail as a fox faunus boy with a fox tail holds an arm out for her to grab.

Ruby: Uh thanks.

The deathstalker still trying to free its tail tries to grab the fox faunus but had part of its claw cut off by him with his hand turned blade.

Ruby: Woah. Who are you?

Yang comes up and hugs her sister.

???: This should answer your question.

He transforms into the little blue slime Ruby knows so well surprising both of the girls.

Ruby: Y/n?!

Y/n: Yep.

Yang: And he can talk now too?!

Y/n: I wasn't exactly a simple minded pet just couldn't communicate. But you understood me just fine with my movement and intentions. Now don't you girls have a initiation to finish.

Ruby: Uh yeah right?

Y/n pov

I hop in Ruby's hood as they head back to the temple.

Weiss: Listen alright you can be extremely reckless but if you stop trying to show off I'll be nicer.

Ruby: I'm not trying to show off. I want you to know I can do this.

Weiss: You're fine.

Blake: Where did that boy-

Jaune: Uh that things circling back.  What are we gonna do?

Weiss: Look there's no sense in dilly-dallying. Our objective is right in front of us.

Ruby: She's right. Our mission is to grab an artifact and make it back to the cliffs. There's no point in fighting these things.

Y/n: Then go.

Jaune: Who said that?

Y/n: Me.

I hop above Ruby landing back in her hood.

Y/n: Explanation later, run and live now.

Both Ruby and Jaune grab a relic and we all start leaving while seeing the ground cracking as the deathstalker nearly frees its stinger. The group came up on another set of ruins at the base of the cliff. I saw the nevermore followed us and flew ahead and couldn't see it because of Ruby's head.

Yang: Well that's great.

The deathstalker broke through the treeline.

Y/n: And that's even greater.

Everyone started moving again towards the nevermore and away from the giant deathstalker. They had to pick the lesser of two evils.

Y/n: Well done Ruby.

Bacca: Okay not much can really be added in my opinion Y/n still technically needs to get used to his new body still and all that and I felt like skipping the team forming because let's face it everyone has probably read it in one way or another. So he's considered a battle pet type of thing still.
