3: Cat bait
(Warning: b!0od/g*re and sharp objects)
"Where is it going to be held at?" Collin asked Fiona, still focused on his TV show.
"Most likely at her classmate's house. The party is a week away." Fiona threw herself onto the couch, staring at the tv.
Ruby ran into the living room, hopping into her dad's lap.
"Daddy, when's the party?" She asked like any other 4 year old girl.
"Seven days, sweetheart. Seven days...." Collin said, still focused on the tv.
Fiona then snatched the remote from his tired hands and began flipping through channels. She eventually wounded up switching to one of the news channels.
Ruby then hopped out of his lap, and ran over to the kitchen. She took a stool and placed it against a tall counter. She climbed up the wobbly stool, reaching the drawer. She pulled it open, seeing many tools. She picked up the sharpest knife, and climbed carefully back down, not wanting to attract attention. She walked her way into one of their hallways. She stopped in front of a small table, that held a fishbowl containing their pet goldfish, Rusher (short for goldrush.)
She hopped into the convenient chair placed beside it, and carefully dipped her little hand into the bowl, feeling the water that hasn't been cleaned in weeks. The goldfish swam around, trying to avoid her hand. She finally grabbed it, and slowly pulled the poor thing up, making it unable to breathe.
She looked at her knife, then back at the goldfish. It was flopping hopelessly, desperate for water. Ruby started to cut it's fins off. After that, she slowly started slicing the poor thing in half. The red blood spilled from it's body, staining the table. After cutting it in half, she ran to the nearest trash can and threw the remains in the trash. She went to the bathroom and got a piece of toilet paper. She hopped back onto the chair, wiping the water and the bloody mess that was on the table. She stared at the blood stained paper, satisfaction present on her smile. She threw it in the trash, and happily skipped back into her room.
Just as ruby returned to her room, Connor had exited his room, headed toward the hallway ruby was recently in. He stopped in front of the table.
"Where the hell did it go?" Connor looked around the bowl, making sure the fish wasn't hiding. He lifted up a decoration, no fish found. He lifted up another decoration, no fish found. He began to panic, looking around for any signs of it being alive.
"Hey buddy, if you come out I'll clean your bowl!" Connor continued dipping his hand into the water, only to feel sand and pointy decorations.
Connor sighed in defeat, and went to the kitchen for a snack. He grabbed a go-gurt from the fridge. After eating it, he turned to the trash can to throw it away. He looked down at it, only to see his fish dead, sliced in half and covered in blood. He screamed in horror, dropping his empty go-gurt stick.
"Hey hey what happened!?" Fiona and collin rushed over.
"G-gold rush... h-he's-" he pointed down at the trash can.
"Oh my..." fiona said, shock present in her voice.
"Don't worry, we can buy you a new one..." collin said, putting his hands on connor's shoulders.
"What!? He's my childhood pet! But here he is now... dead...." Connor felt tears falling down his face.
"Im so sorry, but we can't bring him back..." fiona said.
Fiona and collin walked away after a few minutes.
After a few more minutes of mourning, connor heard laughter from the living room. In curiosity, he peeked over the corner to see his parents and ruby, spending time with each other. Of course. He remembered his parents would do that with him too. But all the attention was given to ruby after she was born.
He sighed as he walked back into his room, sitting on his bed.
He wished he was the only child once again.
