1: Birth.
A woman was laying in a hospital bed, resting. Meanwhile a man was sitting in a chair beside her. He held a baby in his arms. The newborn turned out to be a girl, which was fair enough. They already had a son named Connor, and he was waiting outside the room. It probably wasn't a good choice since he was only 10, and that he had nobody with him. Though the father believed he could handle himself quite well.
Connor came in, with a nurse behind him. His sneakers squeaked, and the nurse's heels kicked as they both entered the room. Connor took a seat next to his father.
"What are you going to name her?" Connor asked, taking a closer look at the newborn.
"Well, I don't know yet." He said, looking down in the red baby onesie the newborn wore.
"Ruby." The father said subconsciously.
"Ruby?" Connor titled his head in confusion.
"Her onesie is the color of a ruby." The father explained.
"Oh okay." Connor looked down on the floor. He fixed his white collared shirt and straightened his shorts as silence took over. He stared at his black sneakers, while some pieces of his dark brown hair fell over his face as wind from the window gushed in. He pulled the hair strings out of his face, and looked at his newborn sister once again.
"Can i hold her?" Connor said randomly, breaking the silence.
"Alright, be careful with her." He carefully handed the baby over to Connor.
Connor honesty wanted a boy, so when the baby grew up they could play video games together, and other "boy stuff". But Connor wasn't about to be picky. He was at least somewhat grateful to have a sibling, so he wouldn't be alone when his parents were out.
"Oh isn't she beautiful.." a voice said. Connor looked up to see his mother sitting up.
"She truly is..." the father said.
The mother had layed back down, still exhausted.
"Did you name her yet....?" The mother said, her energy running low.
"Dad named her ruby." Connor said.
"That's a nice name... connor, would you kindly hand ruby over to me?" She said.
He nodded as he sat up from his chair. He took a few steps and placed ruby in her arms.
Connor only stared as the two parents talked about ruby. He was a mix of emotions. He felt like he wasn't there. But at the same time, he was happy to have a sibling. But his thoughts were cut short when the father had said something.
"Cmon connor, lets go home. We are going to pick them up tomorrow." And just like that, they both left the hospital. Only silence was present in the car. Connor could tell his dad was smiling, however. Only if he felt the same...
