Enjoy!
Maybe all you needed was time. With time you had adjusted well to the life you once had. Your relationship with Ruben took a step further once he permanently moved back into your bedroom. With time you had accept that for your memory to be restored you simply had to start over, especially when it came to your degree in biological science. As the days passed however, you became more and more desperate to remember who you were as a student because that was a time that no other person could voucher for but you.
You started keeping a journal, hoping that writing down your thoughts and feelings might help you to remember something, anything. But every day was like a blank slate. One day, as you walked across campus, somthing out of the ordinary happned. You saw a man who looked familiar. He was tall, with dark hair and brown eyes. He smiled at you, and for a moment you felt like you knew him.
"Excuse me!" You shouted, waving towards the man. To your exhilaration the man waved back. "No way."
You couldn't lose him, you thought and ran ahead in order to catch up with the guy. Your heart raised as the man seized to walk, waiting for you to catch up to him. "You know me, don't you?" Was the first words to come out of your breathless mouth. "As a student I mean."
The man frowned. "Um...I mean you were my roommate for two years."
"I was? So we are friends?"
"Um...sure. Y/N, right?"
"Yes, that's me!" You jumped, quite over the moon to finally be recognized by someone on campus. You hurried to collect yourself, explaining yourself to the man, who's name turned out to be Joshua.
"Yeah, I heard about your accident. I'm sorry about your memory loss." He said.
"Could you please tell me a bit about who I was, you know...before the accident?"
"Oh, well we didn't really have any classes together since we don't study the same major." Joshua was undergoing an English literature major he explained. "And we didn't really hang out beyond the apartment we shared."
"Didn't I have any friends that I brought over?"
Joshua looked to ponder through his memory. "I mean I remember you going to some of the parties thrown around campus. Don't remember who you went to those with though. And then you sort of stopped once you got together with that guy you met...what was his name?"
"Ruben?"
"Ruben Dias, exactly! That was cool I guess. You asked me to come with you to one of his games once."
"One of his what?"
"His football games?"
"Ruben plays football?" You frowned. For some reason you thought he was a hockey player, but perhaps football made more sense. You had never asked him about it simply because he never seemed interested in talking about it with you. Matter of fact, Ruben never really shared his interest with you.
"Look I've got to get to class, talk to you later?"
"Wait!" You stopped him from leaving. Joshua had done more for your than he obviously understood. "Is it okay if I have your number, you know... in case I have some more questions?"
"Sure." He shrugged. "It should already be in your phone, shouldn't it?"
You had been roommates for two years, of course his number should already be somewhere in your contact list. "Right but in case it isn't." You handed him a pen and a ripped page from your notebook.
He took it, perhaps aware of how desperate you were for more information about yourself.
You thanked Joshua for his kindness, letting him go on about his day. You, on the other hand, had a phone call to make.
"I'm glad you called me, Y/N" Rachel said, parking her BMW as close to the Ethiad Stadium as possible. It really rubbed you the wrong way - Ruben never inviting you to watch him play. Perhaps he thought you were more interested in remembering details of your own life to even bother remembering details about his life. This wasn't true. You'd love to know more about Ruben and what he did for a living.
"I got us seats behind the team bench. Ruben will be able to see us from there."
You explained your desire to Rachel, who was more than happy to help.
"Did he often bring you to his games?" You asked, as the two of you walked across the parking lot, towards the magnificent stadium.
"Who, Ruben?"
You nodded. You and Rachel were really different from one another. She was more outgoing and outspoken, perhaps that was something Ruben was missing in you?
"Honey, I still beg Ruben for tickets to this day. I love watching City play."
Her words left you feeling somewhat betrayed. Why would Ruben invite his ex girlfriend to his games but not you?
As you and Rachel found your seats in the stands, you felt a mix of excitement and nerves. You had no idea how Ruben would react to your surprise visit, but you hoped that it would bring you closer together.
The game started, and you watched in awe as Ruben and his teammates ran up and down the field, their movements fluid and precise. You cheered and clapped along with the other fans, feeling proud to be Ruben's wife. At halftime, you noticed Ruben looking at you from the field. He caught your eye and smiled, and for a moment, you locked gazes. You felt your heart race realizing that he was actually happy to see you.
"Y/N what are you doing here?"
After the game, you waited for Ruben in the locker room. When he emerged, sweaty and exhausted, you threw your arms around him and gave him a big kiss.
"I'm so proud of you!" You said, beaming. "You were amazing out there!"
Ruben blushed and looked down at his feet, mumbling something about the team's performance. But you could tell that he was happy, and that was all that mattered.
"It's about time you brought her Dias."
"Rachel?" He stopped hugging you at the sight of her. "So this was your idea?"
"No, I asked her." You interfered.
Ruben's brows furrowed.
"I wanted to see you do what you love."
His expression mellowed, a hand reaching out to caress your cheek. "Y/N, I didn't know...I thought it might overwhelm you."
"What, a game of football?" Rachel snorted. "Just because City has won it all doesn't mean people are passing out in the stands at the sight of you."
Ruben rolled his eyes, ignoring her. He grabbed your hand. "Come, there is people I want you to meet."
Ruben introduced you to some of his teammates, all of whom hadn't left the locker room already. You recognized some of them from your birthday party, others you had only seen on TV before.
"This is John and Bernardo." Ruben said, quite happy to introduced you to them.
"Hello love, happy to see you come around again." Said the guy named John. You instantly recognized him as the man that you bumped into in the toilet at Rachel's penthouse. Embarrassed, you shook his hand. "Nice to meet you."
Bernardo on the other hand was a hugger, ambushing you in a way that made Ruben a little nervous.
"That's enough, she's not one of your fucking teddy bears Bernardo."
To this you and John laughed.
It was quite a lovely encounter, meeting Ruben's teammates. Rachel already seemed familiar with some of them. She joked around with them and they happily greeted her with hugs.
"Ready to go?" Ruben asked. It was only natural that you'd leave with him. However you stood frozen. Somthing about the whole encounter in the locker room brought back a memory...
"Hey, what did I tell you about eating our match balls." John exclaimed at the sight of you. You had just entered the locker room, with Ruben by your side. He held an arm around your shoulders, letting you support your weight against him.
"Ha ha very funny John." You struggled to walk up and hug him and so John had to get up and come to you.
"How far along are you?" He asked. To which you answered "Too far."
"She's very comfortable in there." Ruben joked.
Bernardo popped up before you. "Can I touch it?"
"No, you can't touch my wife's belly. How many times must I tell you Bernardo." Ruben put a hand to his friends chest, preventing him from coming any closer to you. To this everyone in the locker room laughed.
"But I want to feel her kick." Bernardo protested, "She is forsure better than her dad."
You placed a hand to your stomach, only then realizing how big you had become.
"Y/N, please talk to me?"
You were brought back, out of an hypnotizing state.
Ruben was shrugging your shoulders in panic, whilst John stood before you waving a hand before your eyes. "I think she's back." He said.
"What happened?" You groaned, feeling a throbbing headache coming on. It was happening again, you remembered something from your past. However this memory...it couldn't be true.
"I knew you shouldn't have brought her here." Ruben hissed at Rachel.
"Come on Ruben." His teammates tried calming him down, whilst one of the medical staff brought you aside to take care of you.
"I told you not to to bring her here but you never listen!" He shouted, quite aggressive towards an unmoved Rachel. Although she looked at you with slight shock in her eyes, as if what just happened to you had frightened her a bit.
"I'm never letting you near her again. Do you hear me!"
"Rùben, se acalme." (Ruben, calm down) Bernardo tried calming him down, at the same time keep Ruben away from Rachel. It was all a bit blurry to you, why he was so upset.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" A member of the medical staff asked, as he kneeled down before you.
"Two." You guessed.
"Okay..." The man stood. "She needs to get to the hospital...now"
Hearing those words Ruben turned to you. "Y/N?"
You weren't sure what all the commission happening around you was about. You had a painful headache and all you could think about was your memory. It was playing in a loop in your head. You, with your hands on your belly, your pregnant belly. But if this was the case, if the memory was in fact from your past, where was she, where was your baby?
