Book Title: Secrets of the Shadows
Author's Name: Sohinigoswami
Cover: 10/10
I love everything about this cover from the contrast of the two different fonts within your title to the butterfly with skull wings. It is simple but still original. Honestly, that butterfly (or maybe it's a moth?) is my absolute favorite thing.
Title: 10/10
The title and cover mesh well and fit well with the theme of your poetry collection.
Blurb/Description: 10/10
Straight from the start, the first line of your description is unique and intriguing. It is a combination of dark and compelling. I always enjoy seeing the ways different writers shed light on the same topic. "Wherever we go, our shadow follows," is my favorite line from the description. We're all the same, we all have shadows, or parts of us that we are fearful/ashamed of the rest of the world seeing.
Creativity and originality: 10/10
Your poetry is beautifully written and touches on some dark topic matter. Your ability to add your own voice to the subjects and to discuss them without coming right out and saying what is happening (more often than not) is well done.
Grammar, Spelling, etc.: 8/10
Grammar is a little bit more subjective within poetry, so I won't really speak much to that, but I did notice there were a few times when a word was misspelled or 'I' was not capitalized.
Overall: 48/50
I am, by no means, a poetry expert and sometimes I have a hard time interpreting what a poet is trying to say within their lines, so please forgive me if I've misinterpreted or misunderstood anything in writing this review. Your poetry is sad but meaningful. My favorite poems were 'Weeping Willow' and "Black Widow". For the first one, I really enjoyed the idea of speaking with a tree and the personification used when speaking of it. Identifying with this tree, comparing its sorrow to yours. I found it to be beautifully written.
For 'Black Widow', I loved that it was spelled out with those first letters of each line. The way you describe things; 'beginning of the very end,' 'apples of autumn on the ground' were my favorite lines within this poem. I enjoyed the imagery they offered. Thank you for sharing this with me.
