Worldtorn AU 🏵

I kinda brought up this idea in The Grey Rose, but for those of you that might not have read it-

Sabre was just being kept in the Rainbow Hub whenever he wasn't out helping people during when Rainbow was alive, right? Aaand the Rainbow Hub was in its own little pocket dimension thing. And dimensions can be collapsed.

What if he was still inside if that happened?

—————————————————————————————————————

[3rd Person POV]

Sabre slowly opened his eyes to see the fuzzy silhouettes of two people standing above him, one he knew for sure was Rainbow, and the other... he believed it was a Green Steve. Why was he on the ground?

He listened and Rainbow and the other person above him talked. The Green Steve was saying something about being lucid and effects of something. Sabre realized the other Steve was holding a cloth to his head, the area where it was feeling... oddly warm. It contrasted the static, tingly feeling everywhere else.

Something, something... 'help'... 'at the kingdom'... something 'stability'... 'emergency'?

It was then that Rainbow started speaking. His voice was shaky, he sounded panicked, he was... crying. Why was he crying? What was going on?

Sabre tried to ask, but all he could manage was a quiet, strangled noise. It was as if something was grabbing every muscle and bone in his body and forcefully keeping them in the same place. It almost felt like it wasn't his body to move.

The two heard him though; they quickly looked down at Sabre, seemingly shocked. Rainbow said something, and for a moment Sabre could see his expression a little clearer.

He was... scared.

While Rainbow tried to get him to respond, the Green Steve turned and shouted something. When did so many other people get here? He had only blinked for a moment, and then...

Black crept into his vision. He felt the static fade as he closed his eyes.

—————————————————————————————————————

Rainbow sat in a chair next to the bed, Sabre lying there. He hadn't woken up again yet, which was apparently a good thing. He didn't quite understand how, but he was no expert on healing, so he felt it was best not to question it too much. If it was going to help, he'd let it.

Sabre was... changed. Although his bandages concealed most of it, his skin was covered in aberrations that looked like cracks in glass. In the brief few moments he was able to see his eyes, his torn blindfold discarded so the Green Steve that found the two heroes could check for further damage, they were cloudy and distorted. Like a reflection of a foggy night sky in a broken mirror. Sometimes, tiny colorful crackles of electricity would still appear on him, disappearing after a few seconds. His hands twitched every time they did.

Rainbow looks up as someone enters the room, seeing the Green Leader with a tense expression. The Leader motions for Rainbow to follow him into the hall. Rainbow obliges, and once the Green Leader closes the room's door behind them, he turns to Rainbow.

"We were able to stabilize him, but it's going to take a while for him to be healed enough to the point it wouldn't be risky for him to be conscious." He explains. "Based off the situation and my past experience, I believe this is the result of being trapped in a closing dimension...?"

"Y-Yeah... the dimension the Rainbow Hub was in was suddenly closed." Rainbow says, wiping a few tears. "I don't know by who, and it sure as heck wasn't me. I was just helping out at the Orange Village with Gerald when I felt my connection to the Hub suddenly drop, and..."

Rainbow goes quiet, trying to stop more tears. The Green Leader looks somberly at him and softly places a hand on his shoulder.

"Rainbow, it's okay, please just tell me what happened. Whatever it was wasn't your fault-"

"But it is!" Rainbow almost yells. "This wouldn't have happened if I wasn't stupid enough to forget to make Sabre an exit since he can't teleport!"

"Rainbow, Rainbow please. This isn't the time or place for blame." The Green Leader says, quickly trying to calm him down. "Right now I need to know what happened in case it would give any clues as to what happened or let me know about anything else that might need to be treated, and you're the only one that can give that information at the moment. Can you do that for me?"

Rainbow pauses, takes a deep breath, and begins to fidget with his hands as he explains.

"As soon as I noticed the dimension closed, I reopened it and went back to check on everything. Everything was mostly the same way I left it, but Sabre... I found him like that near the house, twitching on the ground and having a hard time breathing. I panicked because I didn't know what to do, and since I thought you guys probably would know, I teleported us both here. I didn't even notice the injuries until the Green Steve that found us started trying to stop the bleeding."

The Green Leader thinks for a moment.

"...And you didn't see anything else?" He asks.

"Not while I was there, no. I could... go back and look?"

"That'd help, but not right now. I know you'd rather be here while Sabre is recovering. I've had one of the guest rooms for visitors prepared for you, so until he's cleared to return home you can stay with him."

"Th-Thank you."

"You're welcome. Now, I'll leave you be. Come find me if anything happens, alright?"

"Okay."

The Green Leader goes down the hall, and Rainbow goes back into the room. Sitting back down on the chair, he looks at Sabre, who twitches again from the strange energy. Every time it causes his heart rate to spike for a moment, and every time it nearly gives Rainbow a heart attack. Hopefully it doesn't get worse...

...That's all he can do right now. Hope.
