Warden AU 🏵
What if Sabre was a humanoid Warden that lived in the RQ world's version of the Deep Dark? Like, instead of an abandoned random city underground, he sculked the Obsidian Steves' old kingdom? (Also another instance of tall boi >:D)
Sabre isn't blind like most Wardens, but does have a hard time seeing in bright areas. He also has the little soul-heart thing, it's just way smaller, about the size of a human heart, and is placed between his collarbones. He has a dark cyan shirt with short sleeves, mid-length dark grey pants, and doesn't wear shoes bc Warden :b
AND HE'S FRIENDLY- like, he wouldn't want the sculk spreading too far up in order not to risk infecting the surface, because he doesn't know how deep underground he is! And he lives with little sculk creatures that are like his pets or something! And when Red and Orange find him, he scares them at first, but only because they don't know what he is and quickly find out he is an absolute bean! Hol' up, hol' up, storytelling time (Sabre's POV of course);
As I finished making my little cove here in the Sculklands, I take a step back to admire my handiwork. It looks so cozy! My double bed is in the center of it, surrounded by cyan, grey, and light blue wool and carpet, and my writing desk to the right of it, my bookcases on the opposite side of that. Lanterns hang from its ceiling, while candles light the floor below.
I step back further to see the placement of my cove. I've put it under an old, giant set of stairs, which leads to a castle-like structure overhead. I can't really tell what it is anymore, actually, it's so broken down and dilapidated that most of it is falling apart. I'm guessing it's a castle because there's a throne in one of the rooms. I almost give myself a headache trying to figure that out again...
I walk into my cove, grab my favorite book, and flop down on my bed. I never completely fit, because the bed isn't made for someone as tall as I am, so I curl up into a sitting position and open my book. It's about the surface, and it's my favorite because it's the only book about the surface that has colored pictures. I've always been fascinated by how the surface is said to look. So many colors... it wouldn't just be black, grey, blue, white, and cyan all the time. I'm pulled from my thoughts by the sound of a sculk sensor making a shrieker go off.
I tunnel underground and head to the vibrations I feel. Bursting upward from the sculk below me, it takes a second for it to get out of my eyes. When I get it out, I see a sculk creature spreading the sculk farther than it should be. I climb up to it and pull it off the wall.
"No! Bad sculkimal! You might be getting to close to the surface!"
I drop the creature into a pool of water below us, and pull the excess sculk off the wall as I climb down. Even though I can't spread it myself, I still keep watch of how much of it is over me. I don't want to risk ruining the surface in case it's right there... even though I'll probably never get to see it. I place the sculk sheet on an empty patch on the floor, and it immediately integrates with the sculk around it.
As I head back to my cove I look at myself in the large crystal growth by the stairs, my reflection clear as ever because I never touch it, fearing that I'll sculk it. Staring at my reflection, I think;
"Huh, y'know what..."
"I actually look pretty nice today."
I resume my way over to my new cove, and curl back up in my bed. I spent the entire day making this... well, quite a few hours, I can't actually tell the time down here. Point is, I'm pretty tired. As I fall asleep, I start dreaming about what the surface is like. Grass, the sun, lakes and rivers, flowers, different foods other than cave mushrooms and glow berries, trees, surface animals... and the stars. The stars especially, this time. I'm told by the book that the stars actually look kinda similar to the spots of sculk...
I hope I get to see the surface someday.
I wake up to the sound of sculk sensors. Figuring it's another sculkimal, I turn in my bed and attempt to go back to sleep, when I hear voices. People voices. Freezing in place, I listen in on what they're saying.
"Orange, I said be careful and don't make much noise! These things could make it wake up!"
"Sorry! Sorry! I tripped! Did it... is it still asleep?"
"Uh... looks like it. Hurry and get over here. And be quiet."
"I'm coming, I'm coming..."
I hear footsteps going away from in front of my cove. Were they talking about me? Why are they in the Sculklands? I slowly get up from my bed, not knowing if they have as sharp hearing as I do. Suddenly, I hear them screaming, and burrow into the sculk to quickly get to them.
At first, I only poke my head out, enough to see what's happening. There's a red person and an orange person being surrounded by humanoid creatures that are entirely black. The black things stick to the sculk, which gives the other two a slight advantage, but they're still surrounded. They're in danger.
Not on my watch. Any friendlies that enter the Sculklands are under my protection. I am the Warden of this place, after all.
I burst through the sculk, and attack the ebony figures. They are... surprisingly weak. In just a few hits, they're all gone, their gooey remains being absorbed by the sculk and being taken to the sculk catalysts. I didn't even need to use a sonic wave beam.
I look over to the two people, who are backed against the wall. They look terrified of me... heck, they're a little under half my size. Either I'm really tall, or surface people are short. I remember reading that if I make myself look smaller, I don't seem as threatening... I slowly place myself in a sitting position in my knees and lower my arms, no longer needing to attack. Hesitantly, I speak to the two, who don't seem as terrified of me... maybe because if my gesture.
"H-hi..." I say. I don't really know what else to do, I've never seen another sentient being before.
One of the people, the orange one, immediately brightens up and walks over to me, waving slightly.
"Hi there!" He says to me. "I'm Orange Steve, and that's my friend Red Steve!" He points to the red person. "Thanks for saving us. What's your name?"
I smile. "Sabre... my name is Sabre."
Do I have a friend now?
