Sealed AU 🏵
So, in this AU, Sabre is actually a very powerful being. The problem is, he didn't know how to control them all that well.
Much before even the times of SL, Sabre was an outlier of the RQ world that lived alongside the Steves. At first, everything was okay. Sabre would get along with them well, and even met other Creators such as Genesis and Dream Steve (he never met Origin in the Realm itself, however he could go to this dimension in which Origin would visit and talk with him).
Sabre had lost his memory of creating Origin and a lot of his past after the fact, but didn't lose most of his powers. After losing his memory he became kind of naïve and innocent, alongside becoming very gullible and clueless of any type of evil in the world. He was still himself, mostly, the same intelligent and hopeful person we know... just turned into someone that's too innocent to know much better. Origin still cared for his creator though, and gave him a place in the Realm he created alongside the Steves.
However, as time went on, everyone started realizing both how powerful Sabre was... and how little control he had over those powers. Nobody was ever hurt by them, and nothing was ever destroyed, just the occasional accidental ice patch on the ground, sudden flower sprouting around Sabre, making himself start glowing, things like that.
Genesis and Dream took it upon themselves to help Sabre learn to control these powers, as they were the only ones who really could, and assured all of the Steves and other beings of the Realm that nothing bad was going to happen because of Sabre.
Despite the two Creators' promises, the people of the Realm were still wary and unsure of what this could lead to. They worried that with so much power, and with his history of doing things on accident, Sabre would cause something terrible to happen to all of them across the Realm.
Worry turned into fear. Fear turned into a quiet hysteria. That silent hysteria spread like a disease, reaching everyone that resided in the Realm. They only voiced about it to each other, never to either of the Creators or Sabre. Origin, Genesis, Dream, and Sabre never knew a thing about what the people of the Realm were thinking. Plotting.
The people developed machines, putting all they had into one device, a device meant to make sure something as powerful as Sabre wouldn't realize their fears. New parts, new substances, new technology... All to complete the plan they had been taking part in since the day everyone started fearing the possibility of Sabre being the cause of their end.
It went into motion as secretly as it was formed, one day at sunset.
Sabre was happily heading home after training with Genesis and Dream, excited about the progress he had made. As he walks by a small village, one Red Steve he knew since before the full realization of his powers walks up to him and says hello. Sabre considered themselves friends, which the Red Steve had said he thought so as well, but unbeknownst to Sabre... the Red Steve had been giving information about him to the rest of the Realm for their plan.
The Red Steve asks Sabre if he could help him with something, and being so naive, Sabre agreed. The Red Steve gives Sabre a smile one last time as he teleports them both.
The teleportation ends, and the two are inside a dark room. As soon as the Red Steve steps back, Sabre is grabbed and shoved into a machine by two Obsidian Steves and a Giant, being held down inside the chamber as a few Chromatics place wires into his skin and bind him to the wall of the chamber using metal cuffs placed on his wrists and arms. A mask of some kind is placed over the lower half of his face, the top of it reaching just underneath his blindfold. Sabre realizes it's an oxygen mask.
Sabre screams and yells, confused by the people's actions. As he struggles while the chamber's door closes, the chamber seeming to be made of some kind of reinforced glass, the Steves and others of the Realm are inputting commands on computers nearby. An individual from each species of the Realm walk forward, each person looking more 'official' and powerful than the rest, and each wearing a type of robe. Sabre doesn't know that these people are the most powerful ones of each of their species.
As Sabre screams out, asking what's happening and what did he do wrong, the machine finishes preparing its systems and enters its final stages. The people in official-looking robes begin using their powers on the machine, a multitude of colors and symbols appearing around it. In a few seconds, a ring of light circles the machine, a single symbol appearing in the center of it facing the crowd. It only stays for a second, then seems to disappear.
A few of the Steves then input a couple more commands, then a mist fills the chamber of the machine, Sabre trapped inside. All of the people step back from the machine, as Sabre confusedly and fearfully looks around, his expression begging for help.
Suddenly, Sabre feels an overwhelming sense of exhaustion hit him. With no idea of what's going on, Sabre is only able to freak out for a few more seconds before it becomes too much, and he's put into a deep slumber.
The machine was the people of the Realm's version of a cryogenic stasis chamber, and they had put a seal on it to make sure Sabre could never get out. They had also connected him to a power draining machine that could run infinitely, so Sabre couldn't regain his powers after being put under and risk escaping somehow.
They didn't kill him because they had no idea what could happen if he was killed, thinking that he possibly could've caused a catastrophe at death, not to mention if his powers would go haywire during an actual fight. So, the people of the Realm decided that sealing Sabre away for what they thought was eternity was the best option to ensure their safety.
Just as the people are preparing to leave, Genesis and Dream throw open the door to the temple where the machine was built, and are horrified at what they were too late to stop. The people of the Realm, their plan falling through as the two weren't supposed to find out about the chamber, back away quietly as Genesis and Dream try to break the seal they had placed upon the machine.
Nobody, not even them, could break it. Nobody could access the controls to the machine. Nobody could stop the machine's program.
Nobody could wake Sabre up.
Enraged by the people's essential betrayal, Genesis and Dream confront everybody. A heated argument breaks out, the two Creators almost heartbroken because of losing their friend, and the people trying to justify their actions. Eventually, Genesis and Dream teleport away in their fury and loss, leaving the people of the Realm alone.
For a few days after the incident, the people of the Realm thought that the plan had gone successfully, minus the two Creators' intrusion. They believed that they would be safe, and that Genesis and Dream would come around to realize their good intentions.
...They had no idea that they had almost doomed their futures.
Origin, absolutely furious by their actions, decided to punish the people of the Realm while suffering in the loss of his creator. Much of the plant life died in disasters, such as drought or fierce storms that raged on for days. The snowy biomes became either entirely frozen with no snow, or turned into areas of pure blizzard. The deserts became almost unlivable, even for the Desert Steves. Oceans became dark and cold, or riddled with a strange pollution.
The people, fearing for their lives and regretting their actions, tried to reason with the mourning Creators.
"Maybe your descendants will have more sense, and actually show compassion to those less fortunate than them." Is all Genesis said, leaving after giving the message of why this was happening to the people from Origin, after they had pleaded to have some sort of answer.
Years passed. No kingdoms hid from one another, as they all needed each other to survive. Genesis and Dream slowly started visiting again with the later generations, until the times of SL. Void, a descendant of the Blue Steve that helped with the seal, used his power after turning into Void to strengthen his armies of Darkness. In this world though, Dread's visions didn't just cause him to worry; they drove him insane. He is not the cold and calculated person we know from the original world, but rather a short-fused, demented individual that openly takes pleasure in making everyone around him suffer.
While he was sleeping, Sabre would have dreams correlating to the events that are going on outside the temple, even though he's entirely unaware of them. For example, during the Dread Arc of SL, he would have nightmares of people with a strange purple substance over their eyes. However, normal events like the Chromatics and others living in peace together would bring him comforting dreams of friends meeting together.
Now, in the times of RQ, two Steves enter an old temple. These two are explorers, looking for what the Steves have been searching for for eons; the lost Creator, sealed away in an ancient machine. It is said that the slumbering outlier may be they key to prosperity and peace being returned to the Realm, as if they find him, somehow break the seal, and perhaps keep him safe and alive for a while, they may undo their ancestors' mistake.
Red Steve, a descendant of the one that led Sabre into the trapped temple, and Orange Steve walk through the temple's doors, looking around. Lighting the lanterns they have, they are extremely surprised to see a giant, operational machine with a light blue glow in front of them. A glass chamber with a fog covering the inside is the centerpiece of the contraption.
"You don't think...?" Orange wonders aloud to his friend.
"We need to make sure." Red answers, taking out a pendant with a strange symbol carved into the jewel.
This pendant, along with others similar to it, is the only thing that could possibly break the seal. The ancient beings that made the seal in the first place wanted a failsafe, and so, there were 13 pendants made; Eight for Chromatics, the rest for the different Biome Steves and others. Only one pendant is needed, and when it's used to break the seal, the pendant will break immediately after use along with every other pendant.
Being the descendant of the Red Steve that started the plan, the pendant of the Red Steves was entrusted to the Red Steve standing in the temple now, as the descendant of the Red Steve that helped make the seal was the Leader and was too busy to go out exploring.
Red Steve carefully walks towards the machine, Orange close behind. When Red holds up the pendant to the machine, a ring of light with a symbol in its center appears. The symbol on the ring matches the one on the pendant.
It is, indeed, the ancient seal.
The pendant starts to glow and shake, as the seal begins to disappear. As soon as the seal completely vanishes, a loud 'crack' echoing along the old stone walls, the pendant breaks in Red's hand. Examining the pieces, Red and Orange stare in shock.
"...Oh my goodness, we actually found it..." Red says quietly.
Orange then steps out from behind Red and walks up to the glass chamber, curious. Moving his hand over the glass to wipe away the condensation and fog, he reveals the face of a sleeping figure inside the chamber. The person inside breathes slowly and softly, unfazed by the loud sounds of the seal's break.
"Woah, he's still alive?!" Orange exclaims. "Hasn't he been stuck here for a really long time?!"
"He has, and it's about time we get him out. Come on." Red says.
The two rush over to the computers on either of the far sides of the machine's chamber, Red walking Orange through the process of inputting all the right commands.
Soon enough, the screen flash a bright green, and the machine starts making noises. Creaking of metal and the strains of gears and parts that haven't moved in centuries is heard, as the machine begins to shut down, using its protocol to stop the cryogenic stasis before it does.
Red and Orange Steve walk closer to the chamber as the machine groans and whirrs, the moving parts converging to the glass chamber. The wires in the person that's inside the chamber's skin suddenly let go and disappear into the machine, the oxygen mask over his face following soon after. Just as Red and Orange reach the chamber, the glass door slides open, and the person inside falls forward out of the chamber with nothing to support him.
Red and Orange quickly catch the being, and carefully place his arms over their shoulders so they can carry him.
"Careful, Orange." Red warns. "If this guy was sealed away when it's said he was, then he's been asleep for eons. He's not exactly at his most physically stable right now."
"I know, I know." Orange says as they start to walk out of the temple, carrying still-unconscious Sabre with them.
Sabre was left extremely weakened after being in cryogenic stasis for so long, only surviving off the nutrients and such the machine had been supplied with to keep him alive, and that he wasn't able to move at all while he slept, which made his body significantly weaker than it was before. All of that, and he was still connected to that power-draining machine the entire time, which took a lot of his energy. That's why he didn't immediately wake up after being let out of the machine.
Sabre wakes up a day or two after he was found, and sees he's inside a kind of makeshift medical room. At first, he's a little fearful of the Steves because of what happened to him before he was sealed away, but eventually warms up to them and is back to his normal, naive self.
It takes a while to adjust to the changes in the world, but Sabre eventually gets the hang of it. As the story goes on, the world start becoming more alive and livable, based off how the Steves have been treating Sabre nicely.
One more thing before I end off this chapter: Maybe instead of corrupting him, Void seals Sabre away again in a different machine inside his lair, and uses Shadow to torture Sabre in his own mind as he sleeps. Sabre also has nightmares of the Darkness attacking everyone the entire time, until Light or some other character finds him and gets him out.
Hope you guys liked this one :>
