Midnight 💜

I wanted to write more Symbiosis AU-

—————————————————————————————————————

Orange awoke to a sudden noise downstairs, loud and abrupt. It sounding like a 'bang' of something wooden hitting a solid wall. Glancing out the nearby window, he could clearly see the stars in the sky, the moon partly covered by clouds. Crickets chirped outside.

He got out of bed and left his room, heading towards the noise. He wasn't really worried about what was in the house, he knew who he lived with. He was more worried as to why he was rummaging through the kitchen in the middle of the night.

Stepping off the stairway and into the hall, he looks left and sees one of the large, tall kitchen cabinets open, a humanoid figure standing behind the door. The sounds of opening paper packaging, crinkling foil, and crunching was coming from it, the noise almost reverberating in the silence. Orange recognized the white tank top, blue pants, and brown hair the figure had.

Orange walked over and grabbed the cabinet door, opening it further so the door was flat against the wall. The figure behind it quickly turned, at first its expression looking close to a feral animal, but upon seeing that it was Orange standing there it softened into a surprised, guilty one.

"Sabre-? Wait-" Orange questions, thinking it was his close friend at first, but then takes a closer look.

Their eyes were visible, showing that instead of their normal bright green, they were darker with slit-shaped pupils. Teeth were poking out from their mouth, even though they tried their best to hide them.  Numerous black patches on their skin had appeared everywhere except their face. Their hands now had claws at their fingertips. The black veins, which Orange had gotten used to seeing, has also multiplied.

"...Goblin?" Orange asks.

The humanoid nods, sheepishly wringing its hands.

"What're you doing here in the middle of the night?" Orange continues, rubbing his eye as he tried to wake up more. "And why're you controlling Sabre right now? Doesn't that only happen if you're-"

A low growl interrupts him, but it's not Goblin being hostile. Goblin finishes chewing whatever snack he had in his mouth and swallows, awkwardly wrapping his arms around his stomach.

"Oh." Orange says, now understanding the situation. "Well if you're hungry, just come get me, you don't have to eat all my snacks." He quickly checks inside the cabinet, seeing only wrappers on the empty shelves. "And, you... already ate all of them. Alright."

Goblin makes a small, quiet noise, almost like a whine. Orange sighs and points to the table next to the kitchen.

"It's alright, just don't do it again. Go sit down, I'll make you some pasta."

Goblin perks up and takes a seat at the table, happily watching Orange go to a different cabinet and take out a couple boxes of pasta. He then takes the boxes and sets them down next to the stove, reaching over to another cabinet and taking out a very large pot. He has to get a stool to be able to see into it while it's on the stove.

While slowly filling the pot with water, he remember the reason why he had to get it was so there was something large enough in the house to cook enough food to fit Sabre's needs. He didn't mind, the only annoying part of it was having to get the stool so he could see while cooking.

Soon enough, the water was boiling and Orange was stirring the pasta around inside. Goblin waited excitedly at the table.

"So, how come you were rooting around the cabinets? Didn't you guys get to eat dinner while you were at the village today?" Orange asks, turning to look at Goblin.

Goblin shakes his head.

"What? Did they just forget- I swear if they got distracted again and only remembered to send you home once it got dark-"

Goblin nods.

"Uuugggh. That's it, I'm talking to the Leader tomorrow." Orange says, annoyed. "This is the third time they've done that."

Orange turns off the stove and carefully drains the water, grabbing a few jars of sauce once the pot is back on the still warm stove. He pours the sauce in and stirs it around for a bit, then turns to Goblin.

"Alright, go ahead."

Goblin gets up while Orange walks to the table, taking the entire pot and bringing it back to his seat at the table. He just holds the pot of pasta as he eats, treating it like a giant bowl.

Orange stays to make sure Goblin doesn't start going through the cupboards again. Before long, the pot is once again empty. Goblin wipes the sauce off his face and licks it off his fingers, placing the pot on the table.

"Alright, now you're going back to bed. It's late and I'm too tired to be babysitting you." Orange laughs. "By the way, you know I'm telling Sabre about this in the morning, right?"

Goblin looks up at him, occasionally glancing at the fruit bowl on the table nearby. It has a variety of fruit gathered in it, but it's clear that the fruit is starting to become overripe.

"Okay, fine." Orange says, yawning. "You can have what's in the fruit bowl, but that's it for tonight. It's about to go bad any-"

Orange looks back up to see Goblin putting the now empty bowl back in its place on the table.

"Of course. Now c'mon, go to bed."

Goblin smiles and gets up from the table, stretching for a moment. Orange watches as he walks down the hall back to Sabre's room, then closes the door. The house is silent again.

Orange goes back upstairs to his room, ready to go back to sleep. He knows Sabre is either going to find this hilarious or embarrassing when he tells him about it the next morning.
