This AU is a request by Naiaazul27! I absolutely love this idea hehe

(Btw heads up, this AU centers around killing, cannibalism, sometimes stalking, and lots of horror/disturbing themes so if you're sensitive to that stuff you might not wanna read ':>)

So in this AU, Sabre goes into the random world and goes into the tomb like normal, but when he arrives in the RQ world... he's met with something much different. Instead of something that's very similar to humans, the Steves are more like monsters; especially with the fact that they're all made to consume flesh.

The Steves are all like that, literally everyone is a sorta cannibalistic creature that mainly eat flesh of something. They can eat normal things, but enough will make them sick and they just outright prefer flesh. To add to the 'creature' thing, the Steves also have very sharp claws and teeth (I also think them to be much taller than normal which makes them much taller than Sabre, because yes). They can hear a quick heartbeat from very far away, which helps them when hunting something down. Their eyes dilate when hunting, and go back are normal when the hunt ends or they're just doing normal things. While they are good people, they sometimes have trouble controlling their instinct to hunt things down.

With enough training and practice they can control it, but even then there can still be some slip-ups. With the evil guys though, Sabre better run, because uh... yeah. Also, the Darkness is actually more of a problem for Sabre than it is for the Steves, because despite him being immune to it's corruption it always tries to attack and kill him on sight because... mindless full-on cannibal monsters.

Now, why would everything hunt him down in the first place? Well, a very long time ago, some of Sabre's people lived in the Realm alongside the Steves. At first, everything was fine. The humans and the Steves would get along great and help each other with tasks like building, or even hunting. However, one day, there was an... incident.

A Steve had accidentally attacked a human, and as soon as one got a taste of human blood, all heck broke loose. Basically a riot across the world with everybody hunting humans down. Eventually all the humans either get killed or escape, the Steves realize what happened, and that's when they start the 'training to control hunting instinct' thing happened because whoops they did a genocide. Because of that, though, for some reason human flesh is considered to be something like some sort of rare delicacy or some sheet- the Steves here are strange :1

So yeah, Sabre is stuck in a world full of flesh-eating creatures that could turn on him at any moment and eat him. Fun times :>

Sabre eventually learns to stay calm in very intense situations and slow his heartbeat down to he can't be tracked, making ti easier to get away from the crazier ones. He's still kinda babied tho because 'Small, no natural defense, and we need to protect him because he's the only one of his kind here and he's helpful and we kinda messed up last time so hopefully this makes up for it'.

Here's some angsty stuff tho-

While Sabre does trust his friends (Orange/Rainbow, the Leaders (minus Red), Light, the individual Chromatic village people), he can't help but notice that sometimes... they act strangely towards him.

He thought it was different, at first. Such as when he'd walk through villages, he'd sometimes notice the eyes of some people dilated as he went by. Or even while he was talking to them, especially people close to him. At first, he thought it was just excitement.

He'd notice that when his friends were walking with him or leading him somewhere, they tended to grip his arm tightly. At first, he thought they were just being protective because of all that's in that world. That's why he never said anything about it, even after he realized what it was.

He'd even notice things with Rainbow, such as him going into Sabre's room at night, standing above Sabre as he slept while he just stared... or the more often times, even before he became Rainbow, where he'd scare Sabre as a 'prank' just to hear his rapid heartbeat... It's very difficult to stop an instinct, after all.

Okay here's fluff because I'm not cruel-

So Dark, Time, M, Therapist Green, and the people of that one village that accepts Sabre actually all learned to control that instinct just for him, so he's 100% safe around them. Lots of people had an easier time because they were younger or more newly created and found it easier to control because it was new to them, and M barely even had to try to learn because Red Steves had already learned for generations to control it. Fluff squad :3

(Sabre runs by screaming as Darkness chases him)

Orange: NEVERMIND-

(Insert Orange/Rainbow getting into a lot of fights to protect Sabre from uncontrollable-instinct-people. Sabre acts like a lil medic and helps patch him up :>)

(Sabre asleep when he wakes up and goes to look around the room, when he sees that Rainbow's watching him sleep again.)

Sabre: ...

Rainbow: UHH- Funny seeing you here.  ':)

Sabre: (still kinda half-asleep and not processing what's happening) ...You're in my room?? Why would I not be here???

(Sabre goes back into the house for something)

Orange: (snaps his head to the tree Rainbow Red is in glaring at it, mouthing the words:) Try it, see what happens.

Rainbow Red: (whispering) Hold up what the fu-
