Forsaken Hero AU 🏵

This AU is inspired by 'Old Doll' :3

As he prepared to fight Rainbow Void, Sabre knew that the Chromatics still didn't want him to return, even after all he'd done to win them the war. It had been obvious from the start, how everyone looked at him. How they still saw him as his shadow. How they kept their distance. So, Sabre kept his distance as well. He didn't try to return to his friendships with the Steves. He didn't speak with them unless they approached him. He didn't try to fight to reclaim all he had lost because of Void. He merely fought for the terrible war to end.

This was noticed by the Chromatics, but nobody really discussed it except for Light and anyone still left in a leading role. It was the opposite of what they expected from him; They thought that they would have to break the news to him that the people still saw him as a danger. The last thing they anticipated was for Sabre to be numb to their presence. Light never told him that, of course. The war was close to its end, and the Chromatics needed as much help as they could get.

However, Sabre still knew.

Once Rainbow void was defeated, all that was left being the colorful Crystal, Sabre simply left it where it was and stared at the sword in his hands. The Shadow Sword. He had long been tuning out Shadow, the copy's voice just noise to him.

When Light entered the room, he saw the Crystal on the ground, the dark blood on the ground and the Sword, and Sabre holding the blade, examining it. His back was turned to Light, but he glanced at him for a moment. Light asked if it was over. Sabre nodded.

And then he began to speak.

He told Light that he knew. He knew that none of them wanted him to return to the Chromatic's side even after all of this was now over. Light formed a look of guilt and went to speak, but he didn't get the chance to.

"I abandoned everything to help you." Sabre said, somber and numb. "My home. My friends. My life. I had chances to go back, but I wanted to continue helping my friends here. I didn't want them to be hurt and afraid anymore. I didn't want someone with his whole life ahead of him to have to spend it fighting a war he was made into a weapon for."

Sabre looks up from examining the sword, yet still doesn't face Light.

"And what did that get me? Most of the friends I had in this world are dead, the rest scared of my shadow, something I never was. Everything I had was destroyed with the Hub. I gave everything to your people... and they took it all, leaving me with nothing. Nothing to my name. And even that is worthless now."

Sabre plunges the Sword into the ground, it then stuck in the stone floor. He lets go of it, his hand slowly falling from its handle like the gentle movement of a curtain.

"I'm sick of fighting your war for you. I'm done."

"Sabre-" Light tries to question, but Sabre stops him.

"Save it. There's nothing left to hear from you."

He starts to walk out of the room, but stops halfway. Only then does he turn to Light, albeit slightly. Light can only see a portion of his face.

"I'm going to leave. Get as far away from any of you as possible. That's what you want, isn't it?" Sabre asks.

Light can't find any words to say.

"...None of you follow me. None of you try to find me. You all want me to leave you be, so the only thing I ask is you do the same. We stopped being allies long ago, stopped being friends even longer..."

Sabre turns, and says one last thing as he exits the room.

"...So don't come back to me the next time something happens."

The room was eerily silent as Light took the Rainbow Crystal, it feeling heavy in his hands.

Light didn't quite see the point in destroying what's left of Void's lair, but he understood the caution. He didn't worry as he and his Guards placed the explosives around the area.

He didn't worry as he and his men stood far from the site to avoid injury.

And he didn't worry as he gave the order to fire a flaming arrow to ignite the TNT.

But the familiar screams heard as the building collapsed rattled all of the Colorless Guard's nerves. Light stood there in horror as the screams went silent.

He hadn't gotten out of the building yet.

Once the dust settled, all of them looked around. At first they thought he was buried under the rubble, but as a Guard shouted, Light looked up to see a scene that made his blood run cold.

Sabre stood on a distant hill, severely injured, but alive. Covered in dust, ash, scrapes, and blood. He held his left arm with his shaking other hand.

But the sight of his former friend wasn't what made Light's heart almost skip a beat. It was the glare.

Sabre's blindfold had been lost, exposing his eyes and letting everyone see the expression of fury. Of pain. Of numb betrayal.

It was almost a promise, that look. It let them know that if Sabre ever saw them again... they would just be ghosts of his past, meaning nothing to him.

None of them went after him as Sabre disappeared into the horizon.

It had been a long, long while since void had been defeated. The Rainbow Kingdom was built. The Leaders were back. There had been a few bumps in the road, but it was dealt with quickly and then things returned to peace.

Until the Demon Steves came.

They were not nearly as powerful as they once were, but that power was growing. The Kingdom was in a panic trying to defend themselves from the otherworldly threat. Not even the Blue Steves had a solution, knowing that any kind of power they could have used to drive them away was long gone. Desperation started to sink in, and it didn't help that since the people have calmed down since the Darkness' defeat, guilt of their actions was consuming their every thought.

Elemental didn't like it, but they had to get Time to find him. After getting the location and promptly being almost shoved out of the shared dimension by the hotheaded brother, Light and a few members of his Guard set out to where he was.

They were led to a seemingly ordinary cave that was far, far away from the Kingdom, it not very deep into the mountain or that far underground. It was only about as big as a single room. As Light and his Guards poked around, they had almost turned back until the floor suddenly opened up from beneath them.

They all fell down, the false floor immediately closing, making the area dark. Nobody could see much. As Light searched for something, anything to help, one by one he heard his Guards yell, then fall to the ground. Something was taking them out.

Just as he heard footsteps in front of him, Light found a lever in the dark room, his hand pulling it as something collided forcefully with his ribcage. He hit the ground, lying on his back as lamps overhead activated and blinded him. There was a figure above him, standing with one foot on his chest and holding a sword to his throat.

As his eyes adjusted, Light quickly glanced around the room. The Guards he had brought with him were unconscious on the floor, but not injured. The place they were in was a large, expansive underground bunker, it almost like a town beneath the mountain, but there was only one house. Sections of sunlight filtered through glass placed in the ceiling, shining down on a number of crops. There was a number of waterfalls and small ponds dotted around the area, some filled with fish.

The figure standing above him became clearer, Light's eyes finally adjusting to the sudden brightness. A scarred face with cold eyes showed an angry expression, a semi-ragged but familiar outfit worn by the attacker. His right arm was scarred as well, but his left arm was entirely replaced with a mechanical one.

"I thought I told you not to look for me."

It was Sabre.

Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe

Have some funnies too :D

Light: I swear, it was an accident-

Sabre: Oh I'm sorry, but 'accidents' don't usually result in LOSING AN ARM.

(Light talking to Sabre through what's basically a doorbell cam)

Light: Please, I know we've treated you unfairly in the past, and we're sorry for that. But we-

Sabre: Leave before I send the wolves after you.

Y. Leader: So... how's the negotiation with Sabre going?

Light: (Covered in scrapes, bruises, and leaves after being dropped into a ditch filled with sweet berry bushes, and is getting tired of this) ...How do you think it's going??

(Chromatics letting Sabre leave to go off somewhere after basically neglecting him)

Leaders: This can't possibly go wrong, it's what everyone wants.

(Demon Steves start causing problems)

Leaders: ...well shoot.

(If/When they eventually get Sabre to help. They're currently following a lead on where a Demon Steve went.)

Light: ...

Sabre: ...

Light: ...So, how-

Sabre: If you don't stop talking to me, I will stab you.

Light: Okay then-

Have fun :3
