Backrooms AU 🏵

What if instead of an entirely new realm, where the Steves lived was the Backrooms that have grown popular recently?

(I fricken love the Backrooms stuff)

Sabre would be just a normal person, going about his day, when as he's walking to somewhere in the city he lives in he suddenly falls through the sidewalk. Before he knows it, he's lying facedown on moist carpet, mono-yellow wallpaper being all he can see, and the constant hum of fluorescent lights the only thing he hears. Getting up, he looks around, and recognizes where he is... and soon becomes terrified, as he knows a bit about the potential dangers within the walls.

Like us, Sabre watched many videos and fan games about the Backrooms, also a fan of the concept. That being said, he knows a lot about what could possibly be with him in this level of the strange place between reality and nothing. However, he never thought it could be real. As he remembers all of the creatures that could be hunting him down at that very moment, Sabre quickly and quietly starts to wander the Backrooms, terrified.

He doesn't know that something is carefully following his every step, right behind him. Although, it's not really a threat... in fact, it's one of the extremely few friendly entities in the Backrooms.

=================================

The Steves are all entities within the Backrooms, all of them being the only passive entities there. Besides the small differences in their appearances, the different Chromatics look similar to each other. I imagine that they'd be very tall, lanky, yet surprisingly quiet-moving entities. They'd have retractable claws, similar to a cat, within their fingers. It's one of their main ways of defending themselves, other than their other powers and scavenging materials to make weaponry.

The Steves would use the different levels of the Backrooms to make homes, for example one level having a small village, and a better-known level having a kingdom inside it. They're able to teleport between the levels freely, except for the levels that hold the Middle World and World Beyond; Only the respective Steves that live there can teleport there, unless someone either teleports with one of them or somehow finds something that overrides the pre-made barrier to them.

Now, all of the Chromatics know about humans; They've tried to help them survive with the Steves once they enter the Backrooms in the past, but it seems something else always gets to them before they do. It's rare for someone to survive more than an hour once they noclip out of reality and into one of the levels, and when they do they're soon scared by the Steves' appearances and run away, soon being caught by another not-so-friendly entity.

...However, Sabre is quite the special case.

=================================

How I imagine Sabre would meet the Steves is while he's wandering, he soon sees Red Steve, who had heard him enter and went to check to see what it was as a Howler had alerted everything in the area that something was there. It had been a very long while since a human entered the Backrooms, so both Red and Sabre were surprised to see each other. Before Red can say something, as he reaches out a little towards Sabre (about to tell him not to panic), Sabre freaks out because he thought Red was about to attack him. Sabre starts to run, and not really knowing what to do, Red chases after him.

A lot of noise echoes throughout the halls of the Backrooms as Sabre runs from Red, which Red knows is attracting unwanted attention. Since they're already being loud, Red tries to tell Sabre to stop and to wait, but Sabre doesn't listen as his fears get the better of him. The chase continues, until a noise familiar to Red is heard. Red knows that the entity is too close to just teleport away, but he doesn't know just how close...

Until the Hound pounces right onto Sabre.

Sabre screams out, panicking too much to figure out what to to. Before the Howler can cause any actual harm, however, Red quickly punts the entity off of Sabre. The Hound hits a wall and growls at Red, but it soon regrets that as Red rushes past Sabre and at it, kicking it again like a highschooler launches a football. The Hound runs away, and Red hurriedly goes back to Sabre and picks him up, checking for injuries. Before he can ask him anything though, Sabre can't handle it anymore and passes out from fear.

Red knows he's still alive and carefully takes Sabre, winding through the wallpapered hallways on an invisible path he remembers, having used it often to visit a friend...

(That's all I'm writing for storyline lol, I want whoever that claims this to have a lot of fun doing that :>)

+= Random Stuff About the AU =+

- Once they're all acquainted, the Steves know that they need to help Sabre find things to survive, like food and water. Having no need for either, they don't search around for it that often.

- The Steves call where Sabre is from 'the Frontrooms', as it's viewed Earth is the opposite of the Backrooms and they have heard legends of it and gotten various items from previous wanderers. They're all excited to hear what Sabre has to tell them about where he's from.

- Sabre, being human, eventually starts showing signs of depression during his time in the Backrooms (as constantly being faced with terrifying things and having no way to an outside are are causes of that). Orange/Rainbow notices, and starts taking him to Levels 92, 97, 99 (also known as Anemia), 9 (The Safe Place), 11, and 3999 (The True Ending, basically a never-ending arcade). Orange/Rainbow takes him to many safe, fun, or just calming levels of the Backrooms throughout their adventures, and it helps greatly with Sabre's mental health. This eventually turns into Green Steve (therapist), Time, or Dark doing this.

- Sabre collects things he finds around the Backrooms, whether they be useful like a key to a door, or just items like a music player or comic book. He takes them back to a spot Orange/Rainbow made for him in The Safe Place, it resembling a mix of a house, kid's clubhouse, and playground. There's even a treehouse placed like a watchtower in the building, which Sabre uses as a bedroom. Over time, Sabre collects a lot of different stuff with Orange/Rainbow and the rest of his friends.

- For some odd reason, devices like game consoles or phones don't need charge to stay operational in the Backrooms, which means they work infinitely. Sabre uses this to his advantage for entertainment by soon setting up the ultimate game room; Multiple computers, XBoxes/PlayStations of all generations, many handhelds like a DS or Switch in multiple colors and models, all the games, lots of smartphones, laptops, TVs, movie/show systems connected to those, you name it, Sabre's probably got it in there. He even was able to find a router, and it somehow connected to Earth, making it so he can play online with other people and go on websites (like YT lol).

- While he can't interact with any other humans at all (can't comment on a video, can't use chat in online games, etc.), he's just happy to see how the world is updating. He even uses the internet to teach Orange/Rainbow and any of his other friends about Earth (I like to imagine his first instance of this is "Lesson 1; People Can Be Really Stupid" and he just showed a bunch of fail comps, instant karma comps, and Reddit story videos). All of these distractions kind of fuel his insomnia, however, and since the Steves don't know what that is (until someone finds a health textbook from a school)... Soooo he gets away with it for quite a while.

Aaaand that's all I can think of! Whoever likes weirdcore and The Backrooms and scary stuff... Oh boy will you have fun with this XD
