Plot: Roy surprises Ed for his birthday. Before doing that, he sends Ed on a little patrol, causing Ed to think about things.

Ed's POV
I sighed as I walked into Roy's office. As I walked past, I heard people say, "Morning Edward. Happy birthday." I'd nervously smile and just wave it off. I wasn't really focused on my birthday. It wasn't important. Instead of knocking on Roy's door, I slammed it open, walking in a frustrated grin. Roy just smiled at me. "Morning love." He greeted. I crossed my arms and looked at him. "Morning. Anyways, why'd you call me here? You interrupted my research." I sighed, flopping on to the couch. He put his pen down and crossed his hands over one another. Roy then rested his head on his chin. "I have a mission for you. It'll only take you about five hours." He stated, smirking. I growled a bit in frustration. 'Can I ever catch a break?!' I thought. "What?! That's at least half of the day! Agh! Why can't I just spend today like any other day?!" I exclaimed. I wasn't surprised about the mission. I had a gut feeling Roy would do this. What kind of upset me, was the fact that he didn't even say happy birthday or anything. I know I said that it wasn't important to me, but I secretly enjoyed the statements. 'Did he forget.....? Nah. People have mentioned it around the office....' I thought. "-D? Hello? Ed? You there?" Roy asked. "Huh? Yeah." I replied, sighing a bit. He passed the folder to me. "It's just a simple patrol. That's all. Enjoy~." He teased. I glared at him before walking out. "Damn Bastard Colonel."
Roy's POV
I sighed as Ed left the room. I had to resist the need to hug him honestly. I felt bad for giving him a job on his birthday. Hawkeye and Al walked in. Winry trailed behind the two. "Everything ready?" Hawkeye asked. I nodded. "Yeah. I just sent Ed off on his mission." I replied. "What about those notes Colonel?" Winry asked. I nodded. "Got those done last night." I replied, standing up. The three nodded. "Winry and Al, you two start on the room, I'll go set up the notes. And Lieutenant, you inform everyone." I explained. "Yes Sir!" They exclaimed, saluting. We all set out to do our job. "Operation Birthday Surprise is a go." I mumbled.

Ed's POV
I grumbled as I walked back to Roy's office. I proceeded to slam the door open again, when I realized that no one was there. I stepped inside, with a questionable look. I walked towards Roy's desk and saw a note was lying there. Along with a box. I raised an eye brow, and grabbed the note.

'Hey there Ed. Had a feeling you'd come here after that job. Sorry for giving it to you by the way! I'm waiting for you under the tree near Central!'

I sighed and smiled a little. I looked at the box. It also had a note.

'Happy birthday Ed! Hope you like it!

I opened it and smiled as I pulled out a  red hoodie. It had the sign that my jacket has on the back of it. I decided to use Roy's couch as a coat rack and placed it there. Next, I headed to the tree near central. I didn't see a tall raven haired male there. I found another note. "Stupid Colonel." I muttered in annoyance.

'I know I said that you'd meet up with me here, but the real place is at my house. So, enjoy your "new" adventure.

I growled in frustration and picked up a small box. There was another note on it.

'Hey Brother! Happy birthday! Hope you like the present!

Your little brother, Al

I smiled again and opened the box. It was a book on alchemy that I wanted. I tucked it under my arm and headed to Roy's house. Once I arrived, I stepped inside. It was completely dark. I saw another note on the table and took it outside so that I could read it.

'Hey there Eddy ;D,
Now that your home, turn around. I've got a birthday surprise for you.

"Huh...?" I asked in a daze. I felt two arms wrap around me and pulled me into a hug. "Happy birthday Ed." Roy said softly. I smiled and turned around,  wrapping my arms around him, and nuzzled my head into the crook of his neck. "I love you." I muttered, smiling. Roy smiled as well. "Love you too Ed. Now, let's go get some cake!" He laughed as we walked in. I laughed. 'New goal: shove cake into Roy's face!'
