Chapter 8 - At A Loss

"Im so sorry about earlier... I didn't expect that to happen. Oh god, now I feel bad for letting Vanessa and Victor grow up without a dad." I hid my face in my palms. I was sitting with Mingyu outside at the garden.

"Yah, there's nothing to be apologetic over. She's just confused. She'll not remember anything when she grows up and knows the truth. We all know how great of a mom you are. You saved your kids from the Castle, away from hell." He looked up at the sky.

"But it was because I was being selfish. I ran away because of humiliation and hurt. I can't believe the Queen could do such a thing." I tried to calm myself down but the anger rises bit by bit each time I thought about the Queen.

"You know, you're like our first sister-in-law. You married our royalty younger brother. You're still legally his wife, you know that right." His eyes then followed Wonwoo who made his entrance with three cans of soda.

"Wahh, you're excluding me from this serious conversation?! I feel hurt." We could all tell that he was joking but neither one of us could smile in this situation.

"What's the topic?" Wonwoo squished between me and Mingyu making us groan at the discomfort.

"You're fat." Mingyu gruntled.

"Says the one who eats like a pig everyday." Wonwoo retaliated.

"How's your english lessons?" Mingyu asked me.

"Pretty good. Guys, are we talking about my issue or about each other being fat?" I wanted to facepalm.

"Here. One can for everyone." Wonwoo handed us a can of soda.

"What's your issue?" He asked, taking a sip of the carbonated drink.

"Me still being legally married to our country's prince and my kids having no father." I sighed and took a huge gulp of the drink, grimacing at the popping feeling of the gassy drink as it went down my throat.

"Just get a divorce if he ain't gonna look for you. I'm still waiting for that lil shit to come find you in his commoner's clothes. To be honest, we haven't even contacted him for a long time. It's pretty unusual." Wonwoo leaned back.

"How so?"

"We usually meet up at least once a week or a few times a month, but lately he's been skipping out. We thought he was busy with Royal duty but I'm getting a feeling it's something else." Mingyu propped his elbows on his lap.

I could only sigh in resignation.

"You know, I truly loved him."

"We know" the two said in unison.

"By the way, which one of you own this house?" I changed the topic.

"Mingyu's fam." Wonwoo patted Mingyu on the shoulder.

"You dumb, Byul. You lived here for months and you didn't know." Mingyu looked like he was about to kill me.

"Haha..." I could only awkwardly laugh and run away from Mingyu who started to chase me into the house.

"They act like kiddos." Wonwoo shook his head and finished his can of soda. "I think I need another can." And walked into the house.

The following week...

"Welcome to Kim's Eatery! Have a seat!" I run back and forth from the kitchen to the tables, serving food and attending to customers. I was finally able to convince Mrs Kim to let me at least work in their eatery.

The bell attached to the entrance door rang, signalling a customer's arrival. I shouted, "Welcome to the Kim's Eatery." I bowed and each time after I stood up properly, I would make eye contact.

But making eye contact with this particular customer was a bad decision.

"V-vernon?" I mumbled.

I could feel my whole world crumble and break down into tiny bits.

Then a girl appeared at his side, clinging on.

I was beyond speechless.
