Chapter 4 - Shopping

It's been months since that day and The Queen had asked for the couple's wedding to be held the week after next week.

"Isn't it a bit of a rush?" Vernon asked his mother who was gushing over the lists of things to prepare. Byul, who sat next to him, gave a small smile, not wanting to break the happy mood the Queen was in.

"It isn't." Was all the Queen said before going back to discussing and fussing over the preparations.

"Tomorrow we will go downtown to pick your dress and suit. Love those boutiques. They make pretty decent dresses and suits." She clasped her hands in excitement as she leaned back into her seat.

"I miss those days where I could roam the streets and do whatever my heart desired before I took on this heavy crown and title. If only I knew what was going to be my future before agreeing to whatever my heart said when I met your father."

Byul had learnt that the Queen was also once a commoner, carefree and 'normal', until she met the King who was a young Prince back then. They too, were young and hopelessly in love.

"We'll do that." Byul smiled as she took Vernon's hand in hers, giving him a look of assurance.

The next day...

"Byul! Byul! Wake up! Her Majesty is looking for you!" Kayla, a fellow servant urgently woke her up.

"Huh!? Oh my...!" Byul hurriedly changed. She looked at the clock and realised she was an hour late. She had accidentally slept in after thinking too much last night. She ran across the huge hallways and many rooms before finally arriving in front of Her Majesty's room. She knocked on the door three times as she catch her breath.

"Come in!" Her melodic voice travelled from inside the room. Byul gently turned the knob and greeted the Queen as soon as she entered. She then gently closed the door behind her and awkwardly stood there with her head down. She noticed Vernon was already there, but in a different clothing.

"Hurry and get changed my dear. We'll wait for you." The Queen gestured a servant on standby to hand her the clothes. It was a casual pink dress that reached till her knees. She was then handed a pair of flats to match the dress.

"Wow..." Byul was in awe as all she had ever worn was the servant's dresses she had in her closet in her small room. It was Byul's decision to continue her role as a servant until the wedding.

"Now go. Hope you like it." The Queen smiled. "I do, Your Majesty. Thank you." She bowed and left the room to change.

Two cars were prepared outside the castle's door and they got into the vehicle. Byul and Vernon sat beside one another in one vehicle, and the Queen in another.

"Will this guarantee you a disguise? I'm pretty sure there are many who would definitely recognise the Queen and the Prince of this country." She whispered.

"Don't worry. Even if they do, it doesn't matter. Plus, news of our marriage might even be out as we speak." Vernon smiled as he held her hand.

They soon reached the boutique and throughout the entire journey Byul was just admiring the scenery outside she missed so much. Her only memories of the outside world was so limited it felt like a first for her.

"Okay, now, we will pick the dresses and suits." The Queen called for assistance. "Yes Ma'am how can I help you?" She bowed.

"I'm looking for a very elegant dress but not too showy and it has to be comfortable. For this young lady." The Queen looked at Byul and gestured at her. The lady looked at Byul up and down before turning back to The Queen.

"Wait a moment Ma'am I'll look for the best ones for you." She smiled and bowed before walking away deeper into the boutique's hallway of beautiful dresses.

After a few minutes, the lady came back with a rack of dresses. "Here you go, Ma'am. You may pick them and she can try them on in the dressing room with our staffs' assistance."

The Queen then started to browse through and looked for the best looking dress.

"Ah! This one looks good on you! Every dress will look good on you though." The Queen whispered the last part to Byul, making her giggle a little at The Queen's comment.

"Thank you Your Majesty." Byul was handed the dress picked out for her and headed to the dressing room. Over there, the staff pulled the curtains closed and helped her.

"Hansol-ah, pick a suit that would match. I trust your taste in clothing." The Queen eyed her son playfully.

"Yes Mom." Vernon went to the men's section. He browsed through the different suits available and was then approached by another staff.

"Looking for a suit? We have separated the best ones over there, please follow me." She lead the way and then a rack of suits was presented infront of him.

"You know, you're cute. You're getting a suit for a formal party?" The lady chuckled and ducked her head shyly.

"You may leave. I'll just look through." Vernon was having none of this at all.

"Sorry sir." She left in a jiffy and Vernon was happy to be left alone. "Okay.. This one's tacky... Looks uncomfortable.. Aha! This one!" He took the chosen suit and showed it to his mom.

"Nicely chosen one dear now get changed." The Queen urged him to another dressing room beside Byul's and pulled the curtains closed.

(I randomly took them from Google so imagine them both wearing these. Byul is represented by Seohyun, Vernon is himself.)

The two curtains were opened at the same time and The Queen just smiled proudly. The couple looked at each other and shyly turned away. Vernon's ears were starting to turn red as he stole glances at her. Byul's cheeks heated up and couldn't stop thinking about how good he looks.

"We'll get this one then. Wrap them up for me please. The sizes fit right?" The Queen asked.

"Yes." The both replied at the same time. They then cleared their throats awkwardly.

"Okay... Now for the other accessories. There's another shop down the street. Get changed quickly. Please wrap a new set." The Queen stood up and went to pay for it. The two closed the curtains and changed.

Byul saw the price and was shocked to see how high it was for a wedding dress. She felt a little indebted to The Queen who had done so much for her.

"Your Majesty, what about the other preparations?" Byul couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.

"Oh don't worry dear, I've got them settled. The preparations are on-going. It's an outdoor small wedding so you won't have to feel pressured." The Queen was so thoughtful of Byul she couldn't help but smile widely, feeling fortunate to have such a wonderful lady as her mother-in-law.

After her wedding she'll be a member of the Royal Family. The pressure is on her to birth the Prince's children as well as putting a good front as she will be either respected, or hated.
