Chapter 16 - The Wedding

The day has come, where Prince Vernon would get married for the second time of his life. This time, the preparations were grandeur. The ballroom was furnished with tables and chairs clothed with white fabric, fresh pink flowers precisely centered on each and every table.

Cutlery were placed neatly and the the team leader who was in-charge of the entire set-up clapped her hands, gaining all the servants' attention.

"Now everyone of you, get changed into the outfits prepared. It's in your rooms. Now go." She shooed and the servants were sent scurrying back to their rooms. Byul could only sigh as she walked back to the hallway of rooms. Hers was the furthest, and she slowly walked on until she reached her door. Sighing again, she turned the knob and locked the door the moment she entered.

She opened her wardrobe and the outfit hung there in all it's glory. It was identical to her current outfit, except for the colour change. Pink. It's probably Soo Yeon's favourite. Disgusting. She thought.

Nevertheless, she got changed and made her way back to the ballroom. On the way, however, she accidentally overheard a conversation she wished she didn't hear.

"Kill the Queen when she's alone, no matter what.... My father will reward you greatly of course." It was the sickening voice belonging to the one and only Soo Yeon.

The Queen?! What audacity!

Byul turned around, wanting to escape this situation when she just had to stub her foot onto a table of decorations.

"Who's there?" Soo Yeon stopped her 'private' conversation and looked for the intruder who eavesdropped.

Byul tried to make a run for it but miserably failed as pain shot up through her entire leg. I just had to hit my foot so hard. She hissed in pain.

"YOU! GUARDS! BRING HER TO THE DUNGEON."

Byul's POV

Dungeon? What dungeon? This Castle actually had one? I could see guards charging at me. I was frightened and froze on the spot. They caught me on both arms and I was mercilessly pulled towards a direction in the Castle I've never encountered before.

The guards then threw me into this dark place. I landed on the cold hard floor with a thud so loud I thought I broke something. I winced in pain.

"You'll be staying here until my wedding finishes. Call for help, it'll be useless. Pretend you never heard whatever you heard," her hand came in contact with my cheek so hard it sent me slumped on the floor. I saw a smirk escape that plastic face of hers.

"Give her nothing. Lock the gates." The stupid guards nodded their head. Who is she to give commands? She's not even part of the royal family, yet.

The rest of my time was spent in that dark dungeon that probably no one knew existed. And what a bummer that we servants don't own a smartphone.

At least I won't have to go through the pain of seeing him.

Vernon's POV

"Everyone, please rise and put your hands together to welcome the bride to the altar." Seungkwan had this 'kill me now' voice when he said that. Even though I'm not supposed to feel this way but I relate to him.

I stood on the altar as I stared stoically at Soo Yeon walk whilst linking her arms with her father. I didn't feel nervous or butterflies in stomach, let alone my heart thumping. I stood there like a statue as I faced Soo Yeon who looked pretty, but not as beautiful and pure as her in a wedding dress.

The vows and exchange of rings passed by, and I could only kiss her on the cheek briefly. Then it was time for the reception and after party kind of thing . I just greeted and thanked the guest for coming and all those sort of things.

I felt no happiness.

I looked around to find Byul but she was nowhere to be seen. I went up to one of the servants who was holding up a tray of refreshments.

"Have you seen Byul anywhere?" I whispered into her ear.

"No, Your Highness. She's been missing since the start of the wedding. Should I get someone to find her for you, Your Highness?" She asked.

"It's okay. I'll find her myself. Thank you." I was about to turn around, when I felt a pair of arms clinging onto my arm.

"What were you whispering to her about? Yeobo." I don't even recall Byul calling me that so endearingly but hearing it come out from Soo Yeon's mouth made me want to puke.

"I was asking her about the drinks." I silently pleaded that servant I was talking to with my eyes to help me.

"Uh yes, Your Highness. A glass of champagne would do?" She smiled as she handed me a glass of the said drink. I mouthed a 'thank you' to her and before I knew it I was dragged away by Soo Yeon.

Suddenly, a loud bang resonated throughout the entire Castle. It sent everyone panicking. I pushed away Soo Yeon's hand and ran out of the ballroom. I saw guards running towards one direction of the Castle. I followed and made one of the guards who was suppose to guard the Queen answer me.

"A servant has been shot and the Queen is unconscious." He shortly answered. "What have you been doing this whole time? I thought you were in charge of the Queen's safety?"

"I sincerely apologise, Your Highness." He bowed 90 degrees and I could only ask him to lead me to Mother.

I almost choked on what I was seeing.

Byul was on top of Mother and blood was pooling.
