Chapter 10
My hands fumbled over the cloth, trying to decode the contents. My stomach began to knott up, feeling a sense of dread deep down. Whatever was inside was as cold as ice and as hard as stone. It shook me, Papyrus occasionally looking up from his book to meet my terrified gaze. I couldn't bring myself to open the cloth, something deep inside telling me to keep it closed for my own safety. I couldn't avoid it, Sans keeping his eyes on me until I unwrapped the contents. I removed one corner. Something black. So far so good. I unfolded the other corner carefully, finally seeing what the cloth contained and what I saw shook me to my very core. In my hands lay a gun, a newly bought gun. It didn't have a single scratch on its black tainted surface. My eyes widened in horror, throwing the gun on the table with such force that the impact left a small crack on the table. Papyrus looked up from his book at the noise, seeing my whimpering and gentle sobbing. He placed a bony hand on my back in comfort, trying to console my stuttering. Sans, however wasn't easy to read. His sockets were now pure black, he blood from his clothes now dripping onto the clean carpet.
" C,mon kiddo. Bite the bullet and show us ya can hack this life " Sans just chuckled at his small and sneaky pun, his smile seeming somewhat menacing now. What did he want me to do? I didn't understand, my hands trembling as they reached out for the cold piece of metal. Papyrus stopped me, holding my hands gently to stop them moving. He looked at his brother with a stare of dismay, not approving of his actions.
" You're scarin' Big Pup brother. Can't we test 'er another way? " Sans pulled away the gun, seeming somewhat guilty for his actions. I understood that he had to take precautions but why be so forward? Had he always been this way? I looked to the ground, feeling like I had lost respect of he small skeleton. To my surprise Sans knelt beside me once more, placing his bloody hands over mine. My heart began to beat more slowly, my anxiety ebbing and finally disappearing.
" Sorry kid, won't happen again. Off to bed with ya. You must be tired " I stood to my feet, turning away from the two skeletons and heading for the stairs. I waved to them both, the smell of iron finally vanishing the further away I got. I was finally glad to be away from the whole scenario, thinking that sleep was sounded good right about now.
