Chapter Two
"Coming!" Sean called.
Sean's stomach churned as he made his way downstairs. Standing in the doorway he saw a man dressed in a fancy suit. The man was clean, and his hair was gelled so that it wouldn't fall in his eyes. The suit alone told him where the stranger came from.
"Mr. McLoughlin, this letter is for you sir," the man named Eric said and handed the letter to Sean.
Sean politely took it and looked down. The envelope was decorated with Christmas designs, he flipped it over and saw a wax seal. Carefully, Sean opened the letter and read it.
Dear Sean McLoughlin,
I, Princess Maeline hereby invites you to Lancaster Castle, In England, for the entire Christmas season until December 26th. Inside this envelope you will find two tickets one for the train station and the other for a plane ticket you will need to get to England. Encased also is a check for $2100.00 that will help you get your ticket once your stay in Lancaster is up.
Hope to see you soon,
Princess Maeline of Lancaster.
Sean stood shocked. The paper felt lifeless as if it was going to fall out of his hands and get blown away by the winter breeze. He'd heard things about the princess, how she was so sweet and one of the richest royal families he'd ever heard from. Sean never expected the princess to call him to the castle let alone invite him to stay for a whole month. Sean glanced at his father who didn't look too pleased with it.
"Dad? Can I go please!" Sean begged. "I promise that I'll be back safely!"
At first, it seemed like his father didn't want to send him off, but the man sighed, giving Sean a new hope. This time he'd be able to go on an adventure without having to be stuck in Ireland.
"Alright fine," said Mr. McLoughlin. "Call me when you get there."
Sean cheered and hugged his dad. Sean turned back to the messenger and shook the man's hand.
"I accept the invitation." Sean said.
The messenger bowed gracefully. "I will notify her grace upon your arrival." The messenger walked away right after, Sean closed the door and raced upstairs to grab his suitcase. Going to England was his chance to get out of the farmlands in Ireland. It also gave him more opportunities to see a completely different place rather than staying put. Hell, he didn't have to worry about going to the restaurant and helping the place out. More opportunities were heading his way. Grabbing his green suitcase, Sean started packing for his train ride to the airport tomorrow.
The next day, the winter sun peeked through the blinds of Sean's windows hitting his eyes. He groaned and held his hand up blocking out the sun, then rolled over onto his side trying to get back to sleep. A few minutes in and he was starting to dose off when a hard knock came from the door. Opening his eyes, Sean's father entered the room.
"Son, are you going to stay in bed?" His father asked.
"Wha-?" Sean started.
"Todays the day you fly to England," Mr. McLoughlin stated. "Get dressed, I'll drive you to the airport."
Sean nodded as his father walked out of the room. Rolling out of bed, Sean dressed in warm clothes and grabbed his green suitcase. His stomach filled with butterflies, nervous to a point that he thought he would throw up. If the princess saw how he acted, would she turn away from him? Feel embarrassed? He'd never been around royalty, so how would he act? Throwing on his scarf, Sean walked downstairs and left the house stuffing his suitcase in the backseat before climbing in.
"Are you sure you want to go to England?" his father asked. Sean sighed. Knowing well that his father didn't want him to leave.
"Yes dad," Sean responded. "I want to experience something new, and this is something different."
Mr. McLoughlin nodded. Not long after they'd been on the snowy road did, they arrive at the airport. The airport was in full swing for the holiday season, families were racing to the security checkout areas or were arguing with flight attendants about getting on the plane. Uneasy, especially with the fact that this was his first time. Sean made his way to the security checkout. Security guards ordered him to place his luggage on the conveyer belt as well as anything else that he'd been carrying. Once he passed through the checkout, Sean made his way to the gate he needed to be at. Which had been gate three. He handed his plane ticket to the guard a petite red head, and pulled off the ticket stub. Turning on his heel he walked to one of the seats and waited for boarding.
A few minutes later, an announcement went over the intercom saying that it was time for them to board. Gathering his stuff, Sean walked through the gate and onto the plane followed by a bunch of other people. The plane took off and headed for England.
About eight hours later, the plane landed in England, he climbed off the plane and entered into England's large airport, people were also getting off their planes at different locations. He looked around wondering how he was going to get to Lancaster, when he saw two men waiting for him. Dressed in fancy attire, they held a sign with his name on it. Retrieving his luggage from baggage claim, Sean walked over.
"Are you Sean McLoughlin?" The shortest man said.
"Yeah, and you are?" Sean asked.
"We are your escorts," the tall one said. "Shall I take your bag sir?"
Reluctantly, Sean handed his suitcase over and the three walked out from the airport. Sean's stomach churned. It was hard for him to understand what he was getting himself into. They left and stepped into the freezing temperatures of winter and snow. Sean expected cars crowding the place but noticed barely any. Some were there to pick up their loved ones while others were looking around for their cars. To the right, Sean saw a black SUV, the windows were tinted and the antenna had the British flag waving in the wintry wind.
"Here you are sir," Said the short one and opened the back door while the tall one placed his luggage in the trunk. "Please be careful, the princess has been excited to meet you."
"Thank you!" Sean responded. He climbed into the SUV and buckled in.
The two men climbed into the front two seats as the tall escort drove. Sean stared out the window, his thoughts circling as he saw the roads leading to Lancaster. The snow fell ever so slowly covering the ground in a white blanket.
Sean couldn't control the urge to smile so he allowed it. Sean began to get tired and started to doze off. His eyelids grew heavy as he fell asleep in the back seat. It didn't take long until they came to a full stop. Bolting awake, Sean looked around thinking that he had a dream. However, looking out the window he saw a beautiful castle with bricks that were so worn it looked as if it was going to fall apart.
"Here we are sir! Lancaster Castle!" the shorter escort said.
Mark Stayed in his chambers staring out at the lawn only to see a black SUV pull into the driveway, his breath caught as he watched the two people in the front get out. His breath caught at the sight of the commoner who Maeline invited. Watching from the window, he noted the commoner had green and brown hair and was being escorted toward the front of the castle. He snarled knowing that this commoner was the only thing that could stand in his way to win the love of Princess Maeline. His chamber doors creaked open as he turned his attention away from the window. Stepping inside was his butler with thinning white hair.
"You called sire?" Wade bowed.
"I did, you may enter." Mark ordered.
Wade closed the door behind him and walked toward Mark.
"What can I do for you?" Wade asked.
"Look out the window, who do you see." Mark gesturing toward the window.
Wade walked over and looked down. Mark held onto his cane arms crossed. Waiting for Wade to say something.
"That's the Sean kid Maeline invited." Wade responded as Mark tapped the bottom of his cane on the floor.
"Well, I'm glad you are being very observant Wade," Mark rolled his eyes. "Let's go and introduce ourselves, shall we?"
Mark glanced back out the window to find the beautiful Maeline, dressed in her winter clothes consisting of a white long coat and brown pants along with a tan blouse. She'd stepped out of the castle and approached the newcomer. Mark fumed, he leaned against the window and watched as she curtsied in front of Sean. He couldn't take it anymore and stormed out of his chambers heading for the grounds.
Maeline watched Sean arrive from her bedroom. The black limo pulled up, she grabbed her winter coat and walked downstairs. Approaching Sean as he admired the castle and the architecture."
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Maeline said sweetly. Sean turned his attention away from the castle and to her. For a split second Maeline swore that Sean wouldn't talk. She thought that maybe she scared him. "Sean?"
Sean couldn't focus, Maeline's dark brown hair curled ever so nicely and the gentle wind blew through her hair. The smile alone, was so full of light. She had curtsied to him and he couldn't figure out the right words to say. Remembering what he researched before, he bowed nearly falling over his feet. He stumbled and slipped on the cold snow landing on his back with a huge groan. Maeline giggled as she helped him up.
"Welcome to Lancaster castle." Maeline said, giving Sean a hug. Sean froze unsure of how to approach this. The two pulled away just as Sean noticed a man with brown and red hair dressed in a black and white suit. Maeline seemed to have noticed as well since she looked over and rolled her eyes. The man and the other guy, Sean assumed was his butler stood on either side of her.
"Took you long enough," Says Maeline. "Sean, I'd like to introduce you to Mark Fischbach, Duke of Bloomfield," she turned toward Mark. "Mark, this is Sean McLoughlin, he's the one I told you was from Ireland."
"Nice to meet you." Sean tried not to bounce on his heels. He held out his hand informally.
Mark raised an eyebrow and looked at Sean as if he were a meal. Sean grew antsy as he pulled his hand away. Awkward Silence filled the yard causing Maeline to break the silence. She cleared her throat and turned toward Wade.
"And this is Wade," Maeline said. "He's Mark's butler," Turning back to the driver and his friend. "Adam, would you be so kind as to take this young man to his room?"
Adam bowed and grabbed Sean's suitcase. "Follow me sir." The two walked off.
Mark watched Sean's fleeing back as he snarled. He already hated that Sean was a commoner it was worse when he realized that the boy had no such bedtime manners. In a low whisper, he turned to Wade.
"Wade," He whispered. "Keep a close eye on McLoughlin, I don't trust him."
"Yes your grace." Wade bowed and walked off.
