[8] Be My Date Au

Roman sighed, and watched the male across the room from him, internally groaning. He wanted to go and talk to him, and get to know him, but something stopped him every time.

"You gotta ask him." Virgil muttered, focused on his phone.

"I know. I just chicken out every time."

"I know." Virgil snorted. "I've been there every time you've spoken to him, or you've told me everything."

"I'm going to do it." Roman nodded to himself, and stood up, taking a moment to collect himself before walking over to him.

"Um, Patton?" Roman scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, and took a shaky breath. "Will you uh... help me with uh... Something?"

"Of course! What's up?" Patton grinned at the male in front of him, trying to make him less uncomfortable, but it seemed to have backfired.

"I uh... Homework?"

"Sure. Do you want to meet me at the library after school?"

"Okay..."

Roman walked away and sighed, he was an idiot. He needed to talk to Patton, and see if he had a date to the dance that was coming up, but he didn't know how. Of course he was able to talk to everyone other than the one male he wanted to talk to.

He made it back to his friend, Virgil, and sighed.

"What did you say this time?" Virgil asked without looking up at him. The two had been friends for longer than Roman could remember, and Virgil had always helped Roman where possible, and vice versa. However, helping Roman with his little crush seemed to prove more difficult than originally planned. Virgil had gotten used to having Roman come back and tell him some stupid story about how he'd said something idiotic.

"I asked him for homework help..."

"And?"

"He said yes, and we will be going to the library after school."

"Roman. You idiot."

"You think I don't know that?"

"I know you do, I'm just reinforcing the knowledge in your brain."

Virgil looked up from his phone and smiled at his friend. "You need to try and talk to him properly later. Maybe being alone together will help? And I'll be a phone call away."

"A phone call? We're really getting somewhere here then?" Roman teased, elbowing Virgil in the side.

Virgil blushed and turned away. He hated the idea of talking on the phone, but since he'd met a certain male, he had opened himself up to talking on the phone to two people, but he'd never tell Roman it was because of him meeting someone. Admittedly, they hadn't planned on a phone call, but it was three in the morning, and he had suffered a pretty bad nightmare, and attack. He'd considered texting Roman, but he knew he'd be asleep, and wouldn't be best pleased if he was woken up. He checked to see if Logan was up, since the two had been growing pretty close, and he was the only one Virgil could turn to. The two of them had been on the phone for hours, and ended up not sleeping anymore that night, and since, Virgil had spoken to him on the phone more, and he'd even begun to talk to Roman on the phone.

"Shut up." He muttered and went back to texting Logan.

"So, are you going to the dance with him?"

"I don't even know him in person really, I just know him through texts. I doubt it."

"Maybe it'd be a good first date."

"Date? As if! He wouldn't like me, even if I liked him... It's be a waste of time."

"You don't know that. Maybe you should talk to him in person."

"How about this, Princey, you ask Patton to the dance, and I'll talk to Logan."

"Deal."

Roman smiled weakly, and glanced at Patton every now and again, whilst trying to talk to Virgil, who seemed to be too preoccupied with his phone to even care about the conversation.

As Roman glanced around, he spotted Logan, Patton's friend, occupied with his phone too, and he smiled, realising the person Virgil was talking to was someone they kind of knew, not that he was going to tell Virgil that, he deserved to figure it out for himself.

The bell soon rang, and they got up, walking out of the cafeteria, before going their separate ways to their classes, silent promises of a text later hung in the air.

-

Roman sighed and looked at the library doors, a familiar building had never looked so daunting before. He pushed his nerves aside, and walked inside, hoping he wasn't too early, and Patton would be there already.

He looked around, and his eyes settled on the male he was looking for, and he smiled weakly. At least he didn't have to look like a fool searching for him.

He made his way over to the male at the table by the window and cleared his throat.

"Patton?"

"Hi Roman!" Patton grinned and indicated to the chair next to him. Roman smiled weakly, and sat next to him. "What is it you need help with?"

"Well, I... I didn't exactly want help with maths, I'm actually doing okay in class, it was something else I wanted to ask."

"Well, shoot." Patton's smile lessened, but remained as a reassuring smile.

Roman shifted in his seat, and sighed, staring at his hands in his lap. "I was uh... I was wondering if you had a date to the dance yet?"

"I don't. I did have someone in mind, but I wasn't sure if they were interested, or just wanting to lead me on."

"Oh." Roman deflated, and smiled weakly.

"Roman?"

"Hm?"

"Will you go to the dance with me?"

"What?" Roman's head snapped up, and he frowned at Patton, trying to figure out if what he heard was real or not.

"I asked if you'd go to the dance with me."

"I would love to, but the other person?"

"You were the person I wanted to ask." Patton smiled, and reached over to take Roman's hand. "I've liked you for a while, and this dance was my excuse to ask you out."

"You didn't need an excuse, I would have said yes."

"I know that now, but I was worried you wouldn't want to go with me, I'm too nice, and too easy going, and I thought you wouldn't like me."

"Well, I do. A lot, and I'm glad you asked, because I never would have worked up the courage to ask you myself."

"Is that why you kept asking me weird things?"

"Yep... I chickened out, and I think Virgil was getting sick of me."

"Virgil, as in Virgil who is talking to Logan?"

"Yeah, him." Roman smiled. "The deal!" Roman's eyes widened, and he forgot they were in a library, and due to his volume, got a few dirty looks.

"What deal?" Patton frowned, and looked at the excited male.

"I said that if I got you as a date to the dance, he would meet up with Logan, but he doesn't have to know you asked me. The deal is still on, and he has to meet up with Logan." Roman grinned, and Patton smiled fondly at the male next to him.

"I have a question, before we get into that."

"Okay?"

"Can I kiss you? I know it's not the best place to kiss, but I would really like to and-" Roman cut off his rambling, and pressed his lips to Patton's, smiling at the small shocked noise he let out.

Patton soon kissed back, and Roman was happier than he had been in a while.

The two went on to have fun at the school dance, and by the end of the evening, they were boyfriends, and Roman couldn't be happier.

Virgil rolled his eyes, at his friend, before glancing at his phone, seeing the familiar three dots. He wanted to know the reply to the text, but he was too anxious, and he wanted nothing more than to throw his phone away and never look at it again. He'd seen as they kissed, and he was happy for him, but he couldn't help but worry about the reply he was about to get.

Where are you?

He smiled at his phone, and sent Logan the reply, telling him to try not to draw Patton and Roman's attention to them.

Not long after, Logan came up, and sat beside him, silently greeting him. It wasn't the first time they'd met, nor would it be the last. They were content to sit in the silence, and Virgil smiled.

"So, you finally got them to get together for the dance?"

"Mm, I didn't really do anything, just gave Roman the push he needed."

"How?"

"Told him that if he got to be with Patton for the dance, I'd meet you, and 'stop pining'."

"I didn't think you were pining, I thought you loved me?"

"I do, but he doesn't know that!" Virgil hissed, trying not to draw attention to them. Logan smiled, and leaned over to him, connecting their lips quickly.

"I know. I was teasing."

Virgil stuck his tongue out, and Logan grinned, reconnecting their lips, content to be that way for a while. When the dance came, they showed up hand in hand, and watched with glee as Roman and Patton's jaws hit the floor, finding it funny how they could take ages to figure things out, all the while, Virgil and Logan were able to get things done easily.

They were happy, and they didn't care about much else, as long as they got to talk to and see one another.
