[3] Shades of You Au

T.W. Anxiety.

Blue and yellow was all Roman knew. He'd never seen anything other than those two colours, and the varying shades of them. He wasn't sure why they had always been those colours, he thought it was unusual, especially since his favourite colours had changed multiple times since he was a child.

He'd been told the way the soulmate thing worked, and it was awful for him, because he was a hopeless romantic, and he always loved the idea of the perfect romance. Even after his parents went through their divorce. He'd always thought they were happy together, but when his mum just left one day, he knew soulmates didn't always work out, which was why he was determined to find his and make it work.

Roman pulled himself out of bed, and looked at the room his mothers had designed for him when he was 13. He couldn't wait to be able to see it the way they did, and he felt bad telling his mother that it was okay, even though he felt guilty over not being able to see it properly.

He had a good feeling about the day ahead of him, although, he had a good feeling about every day, until he got to school. But he didn't let it affect his mood too much. He had friends there, and when he was around them, nothing else seemed to matter.

After an hour or so of getting ready, he said goodbye to his mother, and left the house, ready to walk to his friends house. Logan was his best friend's boyfriend. The two had started dating at the beginning of the school year. They'd known they were soulmates since they'd met, and they met almost 4 years ago, which, Roman thought, was a long time to go before dating your soulmate, but he wasn't going to tell them how to live their lives.

He knocked on Logan's door, and waited for him to answer it. Logan was almost always ready when he came to the door, which was why he was so surprised to see Logan in such a mess. His hair was sticking up, and his clothes were wrinkled. Roman sighed and frowned, worried for his friend.

"Five minutes." Was all Logan said, before disappearing back into his house, leaving Roman to sit on the step and wait for Virgil to show up.

A moment later, Virgil sat next to Roman, and pulled out an earphone. "There's supposed to be a new kid today."

Roman smiled weakly, and looked at his friend. His eyes had darker bags than he remembered seeing the day before, and he seemed more down in the dumps than usual.

"Are you alright?" Roman rested a hand on his friend's leg, not noticing the tears in his eyes.

"Logan said he thinks we should take... take a break..." Roman looked at Virgil, and frowned. Virgil and Logan were the best couple he'd ever seen, and they were always happy and smiling around one another. "But, he didn't say why." Virgil whispered out the last part, finding it hard to talk.

Roman pulled Virgil into a hug, and let him cry on his shoulder. The two were so caught up in what was going on, they didn't hear the front door open and close, or two feet come up in front of them, worrying about the crying male.

Logan cleared his throat behind them, and Virgil turned away from Roman, noticing the shoes in front of them. He wiped away his tears, and stood up quickly, his anxiety kicking in.

Roman sighed and looked from Logan to Virgil to the new male in front of them, and realised he would be the one to talk.

"Hi." He spoke, gaining the male's attention. He was clad in a light blue polo shirt, tan trousers, a grey cardigan was draped over his shoulders and a pair of brown shoes covered his feet. He wore black rimmed glasses, similar to Logan's and he had a goofy childish smile when he was noticed, but it soon fell when he remembered why he stopped.

"Is he okay?" He spoke to Roman, clearly sensing Virgil wasn't up to talking.

"He will be, he just needs a friend." Through Roman's worry, he hadn't noticed his vision change from shades of blue and yellow, to every shade he could ever imagine. He didn't realise that he could see the world in the way his mother did.

Roman pulled Virgil over to him, and made sure he was okay, before they all started walking to school together.

After a day of not talking, Virgil and Logan realised how much they affected the other, and got back together, their break wasn't worth it, and they knew they were meant to be. Roman finally noticed the colour around him, and so did Patton, both going back to the morning, where they first unconsciously noticed the colours, and soon set up a date, knowing they needed to get to know each other before anything else.

And if they went on multiple dates, and didn't tell anyone, whose to know?
