[23] Coffee Shop and News Au

Patton tapped his fingers against the counter of the coffee shop he worked at. It'd been a slow day and he wanted nothing more than to go home to his husband and their dog. He hated working around food sometimes, because if he worked pretty much anywhere else, his husband could come in and bring their dog when Patton had lunch.

He looked up at the bell jingled above the door and he perked up, smiling at his husband as he walked up to the counter. He slipped around the counter, greeting his husband with a brief kiss, smiling at him.

Roman smiled and picked Patton up, setting him on the counter. He pressed another kiss to Patton's lips, holding his waist and conveying how much he missed Patton through it.

"I'll get in trouble, Roro."

"I'll make it quick," he promised. He pressed a few more soft kisses to Patton's face, before holding his waist and scanning his face. "Logan and Virgil are coming into town. They'll be staying with Remus and De, for whatever reason."

"Are you jealous," Patton grinned, clearly teasing his husband.

Roman and Remus had grown apart after they'd both moved out and ended up married. Sure, they'd attended the others wedding, but it wasn't the same as when they were kids.

"Maybe a little. Virgil someone convinced Logan that staying with Remus and De would be a good idea, when we both know that it's only going to end up being a complete mess and Logan will end up with us in two or three days."

Patton smiled and cupped Roman's cheek, pulling him for another brief kiss. He laughed softly as Roman held him close and refused to let go of him.

"It'll work itself out, and I'm pretty sure we'll all end up hanging out as a group, Ro," he smiled and pressed a kiss to the tip of Roman's nose. "And anyway, it gives us more time to obsess over Loki without Virgil literally lying on him..."

Roman chuckled and kissed Patton's cheek, picking him up off the counter and looking at him fondly, supporting him as he wrapped his legs around Roman's waist. He kissed Patton's cheek and jawline softly, not wanting to let his husband go back to work.

"What time do you get out today?" Roman almost whined, wanting just husband to come home for cuddles and kisses.

"Four." Patton nodded to himself, after confirming it in his mind.

Roman huffed and checked the time. Three fifteen. "Can you get out early?"

"No, Roro. I have to work." Patton smiled softly and kissed him again, secretly not wanting to have to go back to work either.

Roman sighed and let him go, kissing him again briefly. He leaned against the counter, knowing their friends would be in soon.

"They're coming today, or tomorrow?" Patton busied himself with making Roman's regular drink.

"Today."

"Ah," Patton nodded, turning on the machine that froths the milk. He stayed silent for a few minutes, putting the seven pumps of vanilla and three of hazelnut that Roman liked. "Do you know what they're having today?"

"De will have what he always does, as for everyone else... I have no clue. Logan likes black coffee so probably that."

Patton nodded and smiled softly, finishing Roman's drink and handing it to him. He set about making Logan's black coffee and De's chai tea latte.

The bell above the door jingled and four more voices filtered into the cafe. Patton set the other two finished drinks on the counter and wiped his hands on his apron, heading over to greet Logan and Virgil with a hug.

He moved to lean against Roman, smiling up at him fondly. Roman pressed a kiss to his forehead and held him loosely. He managed to get Virgil's and Remus' order, before excusing himself again.

He made Remus his raspberry vanilla drink, and Virgil's mocha. He placed them on the table of the booth the five were sitting in. He perched on Roman's lap, listening as they all had their own conversations, whilst also making sure he could check for customers.

Patton was soon able to clock out for the day, making sure to pay for everyone's drinks and going back to sitting with Roman.

Roman kissed his cheek softly and held him. He laced their fingers together, making Patton's palm rest against the back of Roman's hand. Their wedding bands clinked together slightly and Patton smiled softly.

"Oh, guys..." Virgil spoke up, glancing at Logan with a fond smile. He put his left hand on the table, revealing an engagement ring.

"Since when?" Patton took Virgil's hand, admiring the ring. "Wow, Lo, you did a good job on the ring."

Virgil laughed and nodded. "Just the other day. We thought we'd wait until we came over to tell you guys."

"That's amazing. And it's about time too," De rolled his eyes.

Logan flushed and took Virgil's hand again. "Well, maybe so, but the reason we're here is because we want to do things a little differently with our wedding. We were hoping you'd be our best men..."

"That would be amazing!" Patton gasped and grinned. "I'd love to!"

Roman smiled fondly as his husband's adorableness and kissed his cheek.

De, Remus, and Roman all gave varying noises of agreement, and the six settled back into conversation, they way they usually did.

That evening, Roman and Patton lay cuddled on the sofa, both happy with everything that occurred during the day, and looking forward to spending the day with their friends again. Their dog lay on the floor by the sofa, having fallen asleep an hour prior.

Patton looked up at Roman and kissed him softly. "I love you."

"I love you too, cookie."

They said nothing more, for no more words were needed, but they were both content and were looking forward to everything that was going to happen. They were excited to see their friends grow, and see where life took them all.
