Chapter nine ~ Clan and Legends

"Lady Flora?"

"What is it Yume?"

"I'm afraid I have bad news..."

"Whatever it is just tell me."

"Okay... first I actually have a few good new. I was searching a bit in the minds of a few people and found the spirit! She made some kind of deal and now she's human until the month is over! But then there's the fact that she's trapped in the castle, because people think she's a princess... I also lost track of the girl you wanted me to get... I'm a horrible servant..."

"No you're not Yume, I think I found a way to control it for a bit longer. Do you think, you can somehow make it into the castle without anyone noticing you? I definitely can keep the beast trapped for the rest of the month, but after that, I'll be too exhausted to keep it in!"

"I won't let you don't Lady Flora!"

The purple-haired girl faded into the shadow, leaving the green-haired woman alone.

After the transformation was over, Chara had the body of a human boy, even if his skin and hair color was bone white, while his eyes resembled Cross', one red, one white.

"Why?" The adventurer sighed, facepalming. "What? It's the best way to show 'em my power! Ever seen a slime transforming into a human before?"

"Oh ma gosh!" Ruby exclaimed exited. "Can I play with you! Pretty pwease?!" The fish monster looked at Chara with pleading eyes. "I don't see why not." Was his reply.

After Toriel showed them the play room and Asriel and Cara sat down, Gin and Kin didn't stay since they thought it was 'adult talk' wich they immediately claimed as boring, the old boss monster asked "Geno, I'd really like to hear, what happened after you met Cross and Chara."

"Of course." The princess began "A few moments after we prepared everything, we were spotted by a few royal guard members and they immediately attacked. After some time of fleeing, we, literally, ran into Blue and Dust."

"At first me and Dusty thought that they were fleeing from a wild animal or something, but we soon noticed the royal guards, so we began to run as well!" Blue spoke, slightly giggling.

"Dust? So are you the new member of Reaper's crew I heard of?" Toriel questioned. "Probably, I mean no one really joined us after me, aside from Cross, Fell and Geno, but they don't really count since we only brought them here!" Blue explained.

"You sailed here with Reaper?" Asriel repeated, with a confused face expression. "I somehow convinced him, don't ask." Geno answered. "And that what Blue just said, pretty much sums up what happened to us since was it yesterday? I dunno, the only thing he forgot is that we lost Fell..."

"Aha... wait Blue is male?" Toriel replied. "That's what I thought." Geno said. "Strange, I thought Blue is female too..." Cross exclaimed. "So uh... which gender are Blue? Or are non-binary?" The adventurer asked.

"I have no clue!" The small pirate answered with a bright smile. "Seriously? Why?" Asriel blurted out bluntly. "I don't know. I just can't remember anything, before the day I met Dust and the others. The only thing you have to learn, I didn't forget was how to speak!"

It was silent for a bit until Cara raised her voice "Maybe we could do a bit research. I mean, your name sounds like your a descendant of the Azure-Clan." "Azure-Clan? What is that?" Blue asked.

"Hundreds of years ago, rather small societies lived spread across the lands, these were called clans. Some were peaceful, while others were rather violent. The Azure- Crimson-, and X-Clan were the most famous of all." Geno explained "Every clan member had a name that somehow fitted to their clan, in your case Blue."

"Oh okay..." Blue replied "If that's so, I'm probably not related to this 'Azure-Clan', since my friends named me Blue." "I still think that it could be a possibility." Cara said "You see, the Azure-Clan is known for their blue eyes, just like the Crimson-Clan is for their red ones."

"Oh okay! Then I'd love to do some research with you, friend!" Blue exclaimed. Cara smiled and stood up "Would it be okay for you if we leave?" She asked politely.

"Of course. Also, Geno, Cross, Blue, it would be quite dangerous for you to leave right now, so how about you stay here overnight?" Toriel suggested smiling kindly. "That would be very nice! Thank you Miss Toriel!" Geno exclaimed seemingly relieved.

"Uhm... sorry but I can't stay here! I have to go back to the ship sooner or later!" Blue explained. "Oh don't worry, I can contact Sans or Reaper. I'll tell them that you're here and that everything is alright. The forest is too dangerous at night." Toriel replied, standing up from her chair, picking up the baby plant monster, that was still in her lap, in the process.

"Cross? Could you please take Ren and put him into his crib? I'm pretty sure Asriel wouldn't mind bringing you there!" The goat monster said, looking a bit teasing at Asriel. "Fine, I'll show her." The youngster grumbled.

After giving Ren, who was half asleep, to Cross, Toriel stood up and giggled "Kris, Frisk, would you two maybe help me with something in the kitchen?" The two children looked at each other, until Frisk nodded.

The three left the room, leaving Geno as the only one that still sat. "Can I maybe help you and Blue researching?" She asked. "'Course." Cara, who already stood at the door that led to the quite big library the orphanage had. Even if most books were about snails or baking, you could still stumble over a few interesting books here and there.

To Geno's surprise, it actually had a magical research system or for short M.R.S. It resembled a computer, it just worked with magic ore wich was embedded it a metal container.

"I'll go on the M.R.S. you two can look in books, doing the boring reading stuff." The human girl said, already sitting down onto the desk the magical device was placed on. "Okay, but Cara? Can it be that you're part of a Clan as well?" Blue asked innocently.

"Maybe. Why'd you ask? Also, the clans don't really exist anymore. You only find descendants of them here and there." "Well, earlier when you explained a few characteristics of the Azure-Clan, you mentioned that the Crimson-Clan is known for red eyes and you have exactly that!" It was silent after the skeletons words.

"You're right." Cara chuckled. "I don't really like to talk about it..." "Oh I'm terribly sorry!" Blue apologized. "It's fine, most people just get really upset when they even hear the name. The Crimson-Clan doesn't really has a good reputation." The girl explained.

"Why?" The small skeleton asked. "Berserker." Geno said darkly. "The clans special ability. It's a state a Crimson-Clan member can get into, its some kind of rage mode. The user will attack everything that seems like threat to them and they won't stop, even if it's a friend..." the princess almost seemed to cry, when she explained everything. She also touched her eye slightly and looked down at the place were her wound was hidden.

"S-sorry to bring this up..." Blue said feeling very guilty now. "I-it's fine! Let's get back to the topic!" The female skeleton quickly exclaimed pulling a book out of a shelf. Cara didn't reply anything, she nodded and turned to look at the device in front of her.

The other skeleton took a closer look at the book in the taller's hands. "Legends of the Soul Bandits?" They read out loudly. "Oh that's a quite known tale of eight monsters, that were able to make some kind contract with human souls!" Geno exclaimed, very excited.

"Hm, kinda interesting that it was this book I pulled out." The princess murmured. "Why?" Blue questioned. "Well, three of the monsters are actually part of Clans. The so called 'Star of Kindness' is actually the son of an Azure-Clan man and an Emerald-Clan woman."

"Emerald-Clan?" Blue asked confused. "The Emerald-Clan is known for their green hair, as well as their kindness." Cara explained from her seat. "The probably most famous member of this clan is the sorceress Hanami, legend says her healing magic was so powerful she could revive the dead."

"How many Clans are there?" Blue asked. "Many." Geno said, putting down a book in front of her. "Let's do our research for now!"

~meanwhile~

"Keep running huh?" Fell thought to herself. "Shouldn't be too hard... I've been doing that pretty much all my life..."

"You'll need more than just 'run away' from danger..." the voice chuckled.
