Bonus Chapter 5

So last chapter was supposed to be something completely different but while I was at work I was thinking of all the stuff I could add if they had a kid, and... Well you saw what happened lol.

...

Yixing's POV

...

Tiny crying penetrated the fog in my brain. I lifted myself onto my elbows, glancing over. I smiled as I caught a tiny tuft of black hair underneath the covers. I kissed DaeHyun's head and rolled onto my back, swinging my legs over the side of the bed and rising.

"Where are you going?" I paused as a husky voice called out into the night. Another soft smile ticked the corners of my lips up and I turned to face my husband, half sitting up in the bed, gazing at me with unfocused eyes. I chuckled to myself, striding back across the bedroom and fixing the collar of his shirt that attempted to fall off.

"ChaoXing is crying," I explained. "You got up with her last night. It's my turn." He sighed and dropped back onto the mattress, pulling DaeHyun closer to himself. I smiled fondly at the sight for a few moments more before finally making my way out into the hall and to the room built directly next to Junmyeon's. "Hello little princess," I sing songed as I approached her crib. At my voice, her cries lessened, but didn't die down. "I bet you're hungry, aren't you?" I continued, reaching down and lifting her from the crib.

After DaeHyun's third birthday, Junmyeon and I talked again about children. We agreed we wanted another one, and he told me this time it was my turn for a biological child. I debated, for several months actually, asking Ying Yue to do it. But she had a new boyfriend, and I didn't feel like bothering the new life she was building herself with it. So we, Junmyeon and I, went and met with a few doctors, quietly placing a plea out for surrogates with some royal blood in them somewhere.

That's where Xiao Jian came in. I'd never heard of her until that moment, but apparently her father, a wealthy entrepreneur, and my father knew each other quite well. Why he'd never mentioned their family, I would never know. But Xiao Jian was as sweet as could be, quietly agreeing with everything we set up. Her pregnancy had remained largely calm, which was drastically different than Hyeja's. Xiao Jian got morning sickness a few times, but otherwise the baby never seemed to bother her much. Her labor, however, was almost an all day affair, starting at seven at night and ending at four in the evening the following day. But now we had our darling baby girl.

"Papa's little sweetheart," I whispered as I padded quietly down to the kitchen, ChaoXing balanced in my arms. "My precious girl." I peppered her face in featherlight kisses, which halted her cries in their tracks. I loved DaeHyun dearly. He was our firstborn; our bouncing baby boy. But having a girl... It was something else entirely. I warmed her bottle in the warmer as I danced circles with her in my arms around the kitchen island, singing soft Chinese lullabies. I never knew how much I wanted a baby girl until she was here. Now I couldn't picture a life without her.

I snuck back up the stairs and to her nursery, being wary of the last stair since it had a tendency to creak and I didn't want to wake my family. I settled myself into the rocking chair next to her crib, gently guiding the nipple of the bottle into her mouth. I rocked back and forth and listened to her little sucking sounds, feeling her tiny fingers wrap around my pinky. I never knew I could fall in love all over again until I had children. And fall I did, hard.

"Papa?" I glanced up to see a small figure framed in the doorway. DaeHyun rubbed his eyes with one hand. In the other he held onto his baby blanket, a blue blanket with cartoon sheep, much like the shirt Junmyeon used to wear. It had been a gift from Heechan for DaeHyun, and the only blanket he'd accepted for so long.

"Hello sweet boy," I greeted softly. "What are you doing up?" DaeHyun dragged his feet until he was standing in front of me. His lower lip wobbled a bit and he stretched his arms out.

"I woke up and Papa was gone," he pouted. I cooed softly and shifted ChaoXing so she was laying on my shoulder. She sighed contently, her little fist coming up to my neck. DaeHyun crawled into my lap. I wrapped my free arm around his waist.

"Baby sister was awake," I told him. "She needed her nighttime feeding. Papa didn't leave you; I promise." DaeHyun nodded, bringing his blanket up and rubbing the material against his cheek. Shortly after ChaoXing was born, six months ago now, DaeHyun would wake up in hysterics, screaming about how we would leave him now that we had a new baby. It was heartbreaking. But now he seemed a lot better about it. He twisted in my lap, gazing up at me.

"Can I sing to her Papa?" he pleaded. "The song you always sing to me." I ran my fingers through his hair.

"Of course sweet boy," I replied. DaeHyun twisted again until his face was against my chest. He turned to face his sister.

The moon is bright, the wind is quiet.
The leaves hang over the window.
My baby, fall asleep quickly.
Sleep, dreaming sweet dreams.

The moon is bright, the wind is calm,
Gently moving cradle,
Mother's baby, close your eyes,
Yeah sleep, sleep, dreaming sweet dreams...

As the last words of the lullaby left his mouth, his eyes drooped. I kissed the top of his head, setting the chair in motion again.

"My beautiful babies," I whispered to the night air, quiet and heavy. Another sense of calm settled over me. "I don't know what powers watch over me," I continued, hugging my children close to me. "But thank you. It's all I've ever wanted." My amazing husband in the room next to this one, two beautiful children in my arms. My life might not have always been the easiest one. But I wouldn't trade it away for anything.

Junmyeon's POV

...

"Five more minutes..." I muttered as the alarm clock on the nightstand blared its music straight to my skull. I groaned, reaching out and smacking the off button on top. With my other hand I stretched it across the bed, frowning when it came up empty. For two seconds my fuzzy brain didn't comprehend. But then my eyes widened and I sprang up.

My husband and son were gone.

"ChaoXing." I burst into the nursery. "We need..." I promptly stopped, tilting my head to the side, tears welling in the corners of my eyes. Yixing must have fallen asleep in here last night. All three of them occupied the rocking chair. Yixing, his head lolled to one side. DaeHyun, his face smooshed into Yixing's chest. And ChaoXing, resting peacefully on his shoulder. Simple, domestic life. It was something I never once pictured myself having. But now that it was here, I wanted to savor every second of it.

"Good morning," I called into the quiet. Yixing shifted a bit, cracking his eyes open slightly. He assessed me for a couple moments, then his gaze flicked down to DaeHyun. "Come here pumpkin," I said, easily lifting DaeHyun into my arms.

"Daddy!" DaeHyun exclaimed, throwing his arms around my neck. I laughed, cradling his head against my shoulder like I'd done so many times in the past. "I'm not ChaoXing," he said, squirming in my hold. "You don't need to do that anymore."

"I know," I said, setting him down. "You're daddy's big boy, aren't you." DaeHyun puffed out his chest. I ruffled his hair. "And how is daddy's little princess doing this morning?" I turned my attention to ChaoXing, who kicked her legs and squealed. She was generally very happy when she woke up. "We have a big day ahead of us, yes we do," I continued, bouncing her in my arms as I carried her to the changing table. "Emperor Nakamoto is coming today. You have to look all spiffy."

"Yuta is coming today?" Yixing asked as he sidled up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder. He made silly faces at ChaoXing while I changed her diaper, making her giggle and clap her hands together. "I thought that wasn't until tomorrow?" This question he turned to me. I shook my head.

"My calendar in my office said today," I replied. "So go shower up. I'll watch them while you do." Yixing agreed, kissing my temple before ducking out to use the bathroom attached to our room. "Come on DaeHyun," I said, turning my attention to our son. "Let's go play in your room until Papa is done."

"Okay daddy," he responded, slipping a hand in mine and slowly leading the way down the stairs and to his room. Despite having it, he still choose to sleep with us most nights, which I honestly wasn't complaining about. I didn't want them to grow up. I wanted my babies to be my babies forever. We entered DaeHyun's room. He crouched down in front of his toy castle, playing loudly by himself. I sat at the edge of his bed, ChaoXing on my knees.

"Hi muffin," I said to her, kissing the top of her head oh so gently. She babbled at me, stuffing a tiny fist in her mouth. I nudged it out with two fingers, turning her so she was facing me. "Who's a good girl, huh? Who's a good girl?" Another squeal from her.

"Daddy, guess what," DaeHyun suddenly spoke, putting his little figurines down. He ran at me, leaping onto the bed beside my legs.

"What pumpkin?" I asked as he settled down, sitting beside me and reaching out to gently stroke his sister's cheek.

"I sang the baby to sleep last night,' he said solemnly. "That song Papa always sings to me when he puts me to sleep." I smiled, feeling all warm and fuzzy. "She's so cute," DaeHyun continued, leaning and resting his head against my arm.

"Isn't she though?" I replied. I tickled her tummy with one hand, letting her beautiful baby laughs float around me. "Two beautiful children," I added, tickling DaeHyun as well. He laughed, wiggling away. "Daddy never thought he'd get this. But now I do." I lifted ChaoXing above my head, letting her hang there for a second while she kicked her legs and giggled and giggled.

"Is it because you married Papa?" DaeHyun asked, fiddling with a toy in his hands. I turned to him, my lips pursed. "Papa told me one night when we couldn't fall asleep," he continued, running the little toy car across his sheets. "That you guys almost never got married. That grandpop almost forbid it. And Papa snuck out and flew all the way to Korea from China because he wanted to be with you."

"That's right," I choked out when I got my bearings. "Daddy loved Papa so, so much. I always have. And for so long we never actually thought we'd be together. Our countries needed to come first." DaeHyun sat up, large, innocent eyes gazing back at me. "But Papa did sneak out to see me. We decided we didn't want a life without each other in it. A couple years later, we got married."

"And then you and Auntie Hyeja had me!" he exclaimed, throwing his arms out and flopping backwards onto his mattress. I laughed at his antics, shaking my head. I reached out and patted his tummy.

"And then we had you," I repeated. "You and your sister are the second best things to ever happen to me." DaeHyun sat up, his head tilted to the side.

"What's the first?" he inquired.

"Papa," I said simply. "You're Papa is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love him. So much."

"I love you too." I turned at the sound of another voice. Yixing leaned against the doorway, his arms crossed over his chest, hair tousled and wet from his shower. He strode across the small room, ending just in front of me. He leaned down until our foreheads met. "I'm so glad I have you in my life Junnie. Forever and ever." He gave me a sweet kiss.

"Gross!" DaeHyun said. We pulled away, laughing and shaking our heads. I passed ChaoXing off to him so I could go shower. But I paused at the door, turning around to study my little family. I leaned my body against the frame, watching as Yixing sat beside DaeHyun at his castle, listening intently as our son explained what was going on in his own private world. He propped ChaoXing up in his lap, keeping one hand on her belly. Our eyes met briefly, and I shot him a smile before finally moving off.

I never once pictured myself having any kind of happy future. I always assumed I'd end up lonely and alone, unhappy in a marriage arranged only to carry on a bloodline. I wished so bad I could show fifteen year old me what laid ahead of him ten years down the road. All the heartache, all the worrying, all the what ifs. They paid off. They were more than worth it. I was happy, I was in love, I had the best partner in life I could ever ask for. And I had two beautiful children who I could help raise and watch grow.

My life hadn't been perfect. Far from it. But right now, it seemed pretty perfect to me.

...

God I'm sentimental sometimes lol. I have a soft spot for them as parents. They're just so cute together. And of course welcome the final member of their little family, Zhang ChaoXing.
