Interview | Four

With widest of smiles, let's welcome our first runner up of the 1D Fanfiction Awards 2021

I: Interviewer (queen_of_dairymilk)
W: Winner (Larrys_Girl)

I: Welcome to this interview, can you please introduce yourself?

W: My name's Pauline. I've been using wattpad since 2012 and written Larry fics since 2013. I love to read and write, have done so since I was 11. I'm now 23. Outside of the writing world, I'm a dietitian.

I: That's nice. Firstly, Congratulations on being the first runner up in 1D fanfic awards.

W: Thank you!

I: Now, I would like to know that what inspired you to start writing 1D fanfics? And why did you choose wattpad to write your fanfics?

W: I've been a fan since 2011. I wrote a private 1D fic before I even knew these websites existed. But I then came across a fic on Twitter and decided to click the link, which led me to Wattpad. Ever since then, I've loved the website and I really like the whole concept of it as a whole.

I: Thats nice. If I ever get the time, I shall read some of your books.
So, How did you come up with the idea of writing a Larry fanfiction? And why did you decide to write a larry fanfic?

W: I wasn't a Larrie at first, I actually became one thanks to Wattpad. After reading some 1D fics, I came across a Larry one and I decided to read it (thinking it was about their friendship). It obviously turned out it wasn't, and it made me look more into their relationship in real life, started watching videos and stuff. I then got the idea to write a Larry fic.

I: Ohh woww.
So, I have seen that you have written a lot of 1D fanfics. But are you deciding to go beyond that genre and write other kind of stories?

W: I have written another fanfic (not about 1D) on my other account, but yeah, my goal is to write a non-fanfic sometime. It would be amazing.

I: Woww... So, all of your fanfics are about Larry only. Have you ever shipped the other members of the band like zarry or narry or lirry or zouis or niam? Do you ever think of writing a fanfic about them?

I: They are, yes. And no, not really. I once found Niam cute and thought about writing a fanfic about them. (This was back in 2013). But I never did because I don't believe they're together in real life, which doesn't make me passionate to write about them. I've added a few side pairings in my fics though, both Ziam and Niam.

I: Ohk... Have you ever had writer's block? How did you deal with it?

W: Oh, yeah, lots of times! I usually sit down and let myself really think of what should happen next and plan it out in my head. Sometimes, I get writer's block (unmotivated to write) even when I know what to write about and that's more difficult to deal with. But I usually tackle it the same way.

I: I have seen that your fanfics have got a lot of reads. Did you ever think of coming this far? Did it motivate you to write more?

W: Oh, yeah. I never thought of coming this far. It was a dream. A dream come true. I'm so thankful for every single person who's decided to read my fics. It means a lot to me. And yeah, it definitely motivated me to write more!

I: So, this is a very random question. But which song is your most favourite of 1D? I am a directioner too. So, i cant help asking you this question!

W: I can never choose just one! I've always loved What makes you beautiful, Better than words, No control and Home.

I: Same here.
What do you think a fanfic writer should always keep in mind before writing?

W: Plan the story out. That always helps. To know approximately what's going to happen throughout it. And write down a few scenes you want to be added as well.

I: Thats nice.
So, Would you like to be an author in future? Is that your future goal?

W: Yeah, that's definitely a future goal!

I: I hope you get successful in future.

So, did the feedback(both positive and negative) from your readers helped you improve your writing skills? How?

W: Thank you! And yeah, of course. Every positive comment makes me happy and that makes me want to improve. There's always an uncertainty that the readers might not like what you write, so it helps a lot. You don't want to perform worse in the next chapter if you've received great respons on the previous one.

I: Thats a nice thing.
While writing the story, what was the toughest scene for you to write and how did you overcome it?

W: Probably when Louis had hurt his ankle and he refused to accept help from Harry but he "accepted" girls to help him. I just had a hard time deciding how Louis should be treating Harry and why. To overcome it, I wrote Louis' thoughts down and read over the first part of the chapter again and again.

I: Thats great.
Now, can you share your most favourite line of the book? Whats your most favourite scene in there?

W: My favorite scene is probably when Louis comes over to Harry the night after Harry confessed his feelings for him. I just love how they finally talked things out. And my favorite line is probably "Don't ever think you were a mistake, okay? You were not. You were meant to be born and be here today. Please don't ever think otherwise."

I: Ohh... I love the line as well.
How did you come across 1D fanfiction awards? How do you think this award will help you?

W: I'm pretty sure one of the founders of the awards contacted me in my dms, and I found it interesting. It's been years since someone arranged a 1D fanfic awards so I was happy to see it. I don't know, hopefully more people will find my story interesting and want to read it.

I: How do you manage between writing and your daily schedules?

W: That's actually gotten more difficult lately. When I went to uni, I had a lot of free time, especially during covid, but now that I've started working, there's barely no time at all. It makes me sad, I want to spend more time writing, but I'm doing the best I can about the situation. Now I mostly write during the weekends.

I: So, do you want to give any advice to the young and emerging writers in wattpad?

W: I'll say what I always say; just write with your heart and about something you are passionate about. That will make you go far on its own. But also make sure to plan the story out before starting it. It makes things a lot easier. And let it take time. You won't get loads of reads in only a day or a week. Be patient.

I: Thats a great advice. Even I think the same. Thanks Pauline, for giving your time for the interview. Once again, a big congratulations to you. It was really great to know you and talk with you.

W: Thank you for having me!
