Chapter 18: Warfare
Warnings! - Swearing, A lot of Swearing, Blood, War, Explosion
--(Genya POV)--
I was tired. I was upset, but most importantly, I was mad. I was pissed because of my father. The father that was a key part in bringing me into this world, I hate that man with every bone in my body.
I was already heartbroken when I received the news of my family passing, being killed. Who could do that do their own kids? Who could kill their own wife?
I don't know how my family met their end, and I really don't want to imagine all the awful things my father could have done to torture them. It must have been so painful-
It made me so mad.
Then there was Yuichiro and Senjuro. Kidnapped right from the Mist Kingdom castle itself, and tortured. They could have been killed there- Senjuro escaped unharmed, Yuichiro has to stay in a bed to heal.
It broke my already broken heart seeing Muichiro so sad.
Muichiro, I love him as much as I do my family. I would be devastated if I lost him as well. I already lost so much dear to me.
But, I get to avenge them.
Yuichiro was on bed rest, with the wound on his arm, he couldn't wield a blade properly. So I offered to take his place.
Be a part of the battle. Wind Kingdom soldiers were already marching towards the border. Civilians too, civilians who believed their kings lies. It was just awful. They would be enraged if they found out the truth. That my father was the cold killer who did the killing. Not some Mist Kingdom assassin.
The Mist Kingdom army was gathering at the kingdom's gates. Normally the Queen would lead them into battle, but since she was sick, the King took her place. Both Sanemi and Giyu offered to fight as well, we need all the hands we can get.
My brother and Giyu are with the king right now, telling him details and secrets about my fathers kingdom and army. We needed to win this.
Civilians of the Mist Kingdom were forming too, everyone was trying to march out so the battle wouldn't happen in town. There would be too much destruction.
Not everyone was trained in fighting, but most men joined to protect their families. Doctors were preparing areas. There were going to be so many casualties...
The sun was only just rising, it was nice out. It was too peaceful of a day for war to break out.
Sanemi stormed out of the throne room, he looked pissed. Giyu followed, giving him a sympathetic glance.
"I'm going to fucking kill that man," Sanemi seethed, Giyu sighed.
"Genya, the king has addressed us to go straight to castle. Your castle. Turns out your father isn't going to lift a finger in this war," Giyu spoke quietly, he looked at Sanemi.
Sanemi nodded, he looked at me.
"We'll meet you outside," Sanemi said, the two began walking down the hallway.
I paused, I felt so angry at my father. Giyu said my castle... If my father dies, I become king don't I? Sanemi's been exiled from becoming the next ruler... And all other heirs are dead... My own kingdom at 16, huh. I'll make sure to be a better king than my father ever was.
I miss you Teiko, Hiroshi, Sumi, Shuya... Little Koto. None of you deserved whatever the hell my father did to you.
You'll be avenged mom. For all the pain you endured for us all while married with that man.
"Genya?"
I turned around,
Muichiro.
"Muichiro..." I murmured. Muichiro gave me a small soft smile.
"You're going to your Kingdom, aren't you?" Muichiro spoke up, his voice was still small.
"Yeah... I am," I whispered. Muichiro held his arm and walked closer to me. He gave me a quick hug.
"Don't die over there. Kill that son of a bitch," Muichiro whispered, he buried his face in my chest.
"I won't. And I'll kill him. I need too," I said, looking down at him. He had his eyes closed.
"And you better not die either," I whispered, I hugged him back tightly.
"I won't. I can come with you-" Muichiro promised, but then I cut him off.
"You need to stay here. My father hurt you once, I'm not letting it happen again. You need to be here for your kingdom," I whispered. "I love you."
He sighed and nodded.
"Ginko will go with you, if you do kill him... She'll fly over the battle and announce it to the best of her abilities." Muichiro whispered. "I... love you too, please stay safe."
It made sense, if the civilians heard there king was dead, the fighting would cease. If they learned what their king did...
We stayed in the embrace, and Muichiro reluctantly pulled away. He looked at me and the gateway. No words were said, we both turned away from each other and went our own ways.
Muichiro had to stay and fight with his people, this was his kingdom.
And I had to go back to mine, avenge my family and kill that awful man.
I was out the door quickly, running out the doors and to the garden. Sanemi and Giyu were waiting for me. The King lent us the Mist Kingdom fighting uniforms.
It was ironic to think we came from the Wind Kingdom, we were here fighting for the Mist Kingdom.
We all just looked at each other, no words were said. Ginko flew down from the castle, she hovered near us, before flying ahead. We all followed after her.
We had katanas, Giyu had a spear as well just in case. We all had a small knife in case of emergency. We ran, following Ginko through the forest. We had to take a temporary stop, but then we kept running.
We had to stop multiple time, as guards and scouts where everywhere around the border. Was it because Mitsuri and everyone managed to get away so easily? We should be able to get in. Sanemi and I know the perimeter really well. Perks of being princes of this kingdom I suppose.
We reached the main wall, Giyu came up from behind me. He had a small barrel, he set up right up on the wall.
Gunpowder.
Sanemi and I began to walk away as Giyu laid down a trail. The trail was long, but the plan was to blow the wall, and then run through.
The explosion would cause a commotion, but we'd already be long gone. That's the plan. Giyu got close to the trail, and he sparked it.
Then we all booked it as far as we could, while still being close proximity.
A giant explosion shook the ground, and a smoke cloud formed. That was definitely loud and attention catching. We all ran right back through it, the smoke cloud was hard to see through, but we made it though.
We snuck into the West Wing, sneakily following the right wall until we got to the second floor. Looking out the window, I saw guards already checking out massive hole in the wall.
"This way, he probably knows we are here now." Sanemi murmured.
Giyu and I followed his lead, this was going to happen.
We advances from the West Wing, we made it to the main hallway. The throne room was just ahead. Sanemi was in the front Giyu was right behind him. Giyu was nervous I could tell.
Sanemi practically slammed the big doors open.
"Father!" He shouted, but paused. There was blood everywhere, but no bodies.
"Hello, son." The king said, he was sitting back in his throne, seemingly bored.
The rest of us walked in, it was awful. I could just tell it was the blood of my family. He did it on purpose. He knew we were coming, so he didn't bother to clean up the blood.
Sanemi was enraged. He charged forward and instantly him and my father were in a sword match.
Giyu rushed forward to help him, I didn't want to lose Sanemi. And I needed to live... For Muichiro.
I followed them into battle.
