Chapter 24

Oblivion is euphoric.

The fog clears from my mind. My thoughts seem more distinct than before.

The blackness fades and my vision return. Shapes are sharper. Colours brighter.

The tingle of magic running over my body, usually dull when I'm not actively using it and already heightened by All Hallows, is even stronger than before. I feel amazingly powerful.

I don't know why everyone warns against falling into a magic oblivion. They say it's dangerous. You're not yourself. You don't think clearly. They're wrong; I feel the best I've been since coming to Earth.

"How are you feeling?" A concerned Liam asks.

I giggle. What's he so concerned about? The assassin's been dealt with. "I feel great. Come party with me. Both of you." I grab Liam's wrist with one hand and Isaac's wrist with my other. They both look horrified. I giggle again.

"I'm not sure that's a good idea." Isaac says.

I stop and stare at him. "Why not?" I pout.

"Your emotions are out of whack. You need to come back from oblivion. I know you feel great now, but you'll thank me for it later if you come back to us."

"But I'm already here." I'm confused.

Liam swears. I giggle.

"Come. Party." I head towards the campus club, Nite Life, dragging the boys behind me. They reluctantly follow, whispering too quietly for me to understand their secretive conversation.

Inside Nite Life, I stop abruptly, staring around in amazement. Pretty rainbow lights illuminate the otherwise dark room. Cobwebs dangle over the walls and ceiling. Pumpkins carved with detailed faces surround a DJ booth on a platform at the other end of the large room. The music floats through my ears and pumps through my blood. It sounds intoxicating.

Liam tries to tell me something, but I don't hear him. Letting go of the boys I dragged here, I weave my way through the crowd. I hope Liam and Isaac follow.

"Megan! Zoey!" I shout when I find them.

"Hey, Ally!" Megan replies, face beaming.

Zoey smiles briefly at me in acknowledgement, but she's too busy grinding between two guys to say much to me. Good for her. I leave her to her fun and instead talk to Megan.

"Do you not have anyone to dance with?" I ask her.

"I've danced with a few people tonight. How was the treasure hunt?"

The treasure hunt must've slipped my mind since leaving the theatre. Whoops. "I don't know. I have to look behind."

"Behind where?"

"Behind the party. Somewhere here." I gaze around the room slowly, trying to find the final stash of sweets.

"Are you drunk?" Megan eyes me suspiciously.

I giggle. "No. But that's a good idea." I bump into someone as I turn towards the bar.

"I have to disagree." I look up into Isaac's sparkling sapphire eyes.

"I want a drink." I attempt to move past him, but he blocks my way. How dare he? "Rude." I complain.

"Nice wings Isaac." Megan compliments. I think she's trying to distract him for me. "You look like a warrior angel with that hole in them."

I take my opportunity to run. I manage to get past Isaac, but his arms ensnare my waist, pulling me back to him. Why do I need a drink when I've got a man holding on to me so tightly? I begin grinding against him. He doesn't grind back, but he doesn't stop me either. I feel his body respond to my movements.

He spins me round to face him, holding my body firm so I can no longer shake my hips. A seductive smile crawls across my face. It becomes a smirk when I see him glance briefly down at my lips. He looks tempted to meld his lips into mine.

I bring my lips to his ear. "Make love to me."

I hear an audible gulp. Then Isaac pushes me away slightly, holding me at arm's length with his hands still firm on my waist. "That's not a good idea tonight."

"Why not?" I pout.

"I don't want you to regret it when you come back from oblivion."

"I won't." I insist. Isaac only stares at me. "You're no fun." I whine after a few seconds. I wriggle out of Isaac's grasp. "Megan!" I yell.

She's by my side in an instant. "Is something wrong?" She asks.

"Yes. Isaac won't have sex with me. Do you want sex?"

Megan gapes at me. I can't understand what everyone's problem is tonight.

"I think I should take her home." Isaac says as he seizes my wrist.

"Get off me!" I attempt to wrestle my arm back, but this time he holds strong.

"I think so too." Megan says to Isaac. Why are they both ignoring what I want?

"No. I want to stay. Let me have some fun." I continue struggling in Isaac's grip as he yanks me out of the club.

"You can have fun another time. Right now, you need to be away from any kind of party."

"I want to party now." I try to plant my feet into the floor, but I end up stumbling out the door. I would've landed on my face if Isaac didn't hold me up. "Where's Liam?" I ask. "I'm sure he'd want sex with me."

"I'm sure he wouldn't." Isaac states. "Anyway, he's at Ash House."

"So he's waiting for me." I reply smugly.

Isaac gives a cry of frustration. I can understand why; he's losing this argument. I stroll off towards Ash House. Isaac walks with me, hand slipping from my wrist to hold my hand.

"Oblivion is a dangerous thing, Ally." He says. I pretend not to listen. I've heard it all before, but now I can't understand why people see oblivion as a bad thing. "A seelie who falls into oblivion can't think clearly. Your only focus is on hedonistic pleasure, however you want to find it. You could easily get yourself into a dangerous situation and not even realise it."

"Are you trying to tell me you're dangerous?" I ask. A large part of me doesn't care either way.

"No, Ally." He sighs exasperatedly.

"Watch this." I lift my free hand up in front of me, palm up to the blackness above. Three luminous green butterflies materialise in my palm. They flutter upwards, dancing above my palm. I laugh in delight. Isaac grabs my hand and the butterflies disappear. My laughter stops abruptly. I glare at him. "I was putting on a show." I whine.

"Yeah. Too much of a show for unseelies." He hisses.

"You need to chill out. They won't believe anything they see tonight; it's All Hallows."

"Don't do any more magic until you walk through that door." Isaac points to the wooden front door of Ash House, wrapped in yellow caution tape. Four lit pumpkins sit on the doorstep, two on either side of the door. How are we here already?

"Bor-ing." I tease before practically skipping up to the door. "Knock knock." I say as I turn the key and push the door open.

Liam comes over to hug me. "Thank goodness you're alright." He pulls back.

"Why wouldn't I be?" I ask, confused.

Liam sighs. "Just go upstairs and go to bed."

"You can't tell me what to do." I retort, offended by his order.

"Maybe not, but you'll thank me if you listen."

"Are you joining me in bed?" I grin.

He looks shocked. What is wrong with people tonight? "No, Ally."

"Why does no one want sex?" I whine, pouting.

"Now!" Isaac says. I feel him pull my hands behind my back. In the same instant, Liam swipes my potion pouch from my belt.

"Hey!" I cry. "You can't take my things and hold me hostage in my own home!" I wriggle and squirm, but Isaac won't let go of me.

Liam pays me no attention as he removes a vial filled with a glowing violet liquid from my pouch. Unscrewing the lid, he lifts the glass vial to my lips. I purse my lips together in defiance. He uses his free hand to magically force my mouth open. He tips a small amount of purple liquid into my mouth. Then he has the audacity to force me to swallow it.

"What the hell!" I splutter. But there's nothing I can do now. I feel the potion rapidly working it's magic. My limbs grow heavy. I become lightheaded. This feels like twice in one evening. I mentally curse myself for carrying around the sleep potion.

Before I pass out, strong arms sweep me off my feet.
