A Sunset Promise

~In Lorien~

I walked out to the edge of the garden, my favorite place to go everyday right before the sun sets. I reach my spot right as the sun is setting, covering everything in it's beautiful red and orange light. As I gaze upon it I cannot help but think of my best friend that lives east of here, looking at the same sunset. I've known her since we were children, I still remember us playing and running around through the forest...

*Flashback in Lorien*

With my hair flying behind me I run as fast as I can, with her quickly gaining on me. I was panting hard but I was not willing for her to win the race. Almost there, just twenty more feet. I take a glance over my shoulder as I'm running, she getting closer almost on to me. I tried to push ahead as she called out to me, "Your slowing down Hostien, I'm gonna win!"

I was panting harder as I replied, "No you're not! Not this time Angelica!"

She was now neck and neck with me as she replied, "Well just see about that Hostien!" We were almost there, ten feet away....then five...and then I'm three feet away, I'm going to make it I thought...one foot and...oof! We both reach the tree at the same time and fall to the ground rolling over each other. We looked at each other on the ground and then started laughing at each other.

"I won!" we said in perfect unision. "No I won!" again we said it at the same time, and then started giggling.

I turn over on my side and look at her, "I don't want you to go back home tomorrow," I said with a sad tone.

She turned towards me with sad filled eyes, "I don't want to either, but I have to go back home with Ada (father) because I would miss him too much, although I'll miss you too." I nodded, Angelica had become more clinging to her father ever since her mother, the star of Mirkwood died. She was really sad and had come here with her father's intentions of cheering her up. "

"I still think I won," I said to her.

"No you didn't, we tied," she protested, "Besides I would've won if it hadn't had been for this long stupid dress. You can't even climb a tree in this thing!" I laughed, same old Angelica, always athletic and an outdoors friend.

"Don't be silly! You have to wear a dress Angelica, you're a girl."

"I know that," she said,"But it doesn't mean I have to wear all this long dresses. One day when I grow up I'm going to wear a dress that I can run and climb in!" I smiled at her, she was always dreaming about what she would do when she grew up, she wanted know all the languages there were to know, so far she knew only two. The elven language and common speech. Oh well, it's a start.

"Angelica! Hostien! Come back! It's time for dinner!" called Angelica's father.

We got up and shouted back, "Coming!" As we stood up, we looked at the sunset one last time.

"Hostien," Angelica said. I looked at her,

"Yeah?"

"Will you promise me after I leave that everyday you'll come here and look at the sunset and remember me?" she asked.

I smiled, "Of course I will! It'll be our little spot! But I'll only come if you look at the sunset from our tree in Mirkwood!"

"I will!" she said. We sealed the deal with a hug and ran back to the house for the dinner that waited for us there...

*End of flashback*

I sighed, I had kept this promise ever since we were nine and I had no intention of breaking it. I kept looking out and watched the sun get lower in the sky. All the sudden I heard a voice come from behind me, "What are you thinking about?" I turned to my one and only love Haldir. I smiled at him, and leaned against his shoulder, "You were thinking about her, weren't you?" he asked.

I nodded my head against his chest, "I miss her a lot." He put his one arm around me and used the other one to push some of my hair behind my ear.

"Why don't we visit her sometime soon?" he suggested. He let it sink in for a second,

"You mean that you could bring me there?" I asked causiously not wanting to get my hopes up too high.

"Of course," he said,"I'd bring you to the ends of Middle Earth if it made you happy."

All the sudden I got really excited, I turned my head to look at his eyes to see if he was serious. Instead I felt his soft lips brush against mine and as his arms slowly encircled around me. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he pulled me closer into the kiss. It was light, yet passionate and caring. It didn't last too long, although felt as if it had lasted forever. We slowly broke away from the kiss and I looked into his blue eyes melting away any insecurity I had left. There was no doubt about it, I was head over heels in love with him.

~Mirkwood~

Angelica's P.O.V.

I quickly finished addressing the letters so that they could be sent off. Finished, I thought tiredly. There had been a lot of translating today, it seems I've been sending more and more letters to different places in Middle Earth. As I finished I heard someone come in behind me, I turned to see who it was even though I already knew who it was. As I turned my eyes meet with piercing blue ones, he stood there for a second and said nothing so I broke the silence, "Hir vuin (my lord) Legolas."

He stood there saying nothing. "Is there something you needed my lord?" I asked confused as to why he was saying nothing.

He shook his head and said, "No, I'm fine. I just came to check and see if everything was in order and ready to be sent." Just as I figured, his father King Thranduil always had someone make sure all the letters I translated or were translating were in order and that nothing was lost. Though the funny thing was he usually sent someone like Feren or a servant but lately it had been Legolas. I wonder why I thought.

I smiled and said, "Well I'm sure you will find everything in order my lord."

He looked at me, "We shall see. You may leave now if you want."

I nodded and said, "Thank you my lord." With that I left to go to the spot my mind was on all day. While I was walking down the hallway I ran into Feren.

"Angelica! I haven't seen you in a while, how are you?" he said.

I laughed, "A while my foot, you saw me yesterday. And to answer your question I'm doing good, how about you?"

"Well it seems like a longer time than that. I'm doing good."

"I'm glad to hear that." I said.

"Where are you going in such a rush?" he asked.

I smiled, "I'm going to see the sun set."

"I'm sure it'll be a beautiful sight, just like you."

My alert warnings went up as I blushed slightly at the compliment, "I'm sure it will be a very beautiful sight indeed."

He looked a bit disappointed but it didn't last long. "Well I'll let you get to your sun set then." With that he smiled and turned to make his way back down the hallway I had just came from. I continued down the hallway and towards the place I seeked.

Legolas' P.O.V.

As she left I started to walk towards the desk to make sure everything was right, although I already knew it was. I never quite understood why my father had us check everything she does, it's always right and in order, in fact there wasn't anything you would need to check. As I reached the desk I heard voices down the hall. I went to go look and see who it was. It was Feren and Angelica talking. I looked jealously as he talked to her and she laughed at him. I was about to turn around and go back into the room when some words caught my hear, "I'm sure it'll be a beautiful sight, just like you." That's when they caught my attention. She blushed slightly, said something and then walked away. I quickly ducked back into the room so they wouldn't see me. What bothered me the most is that she seemed to enjoy the comment. How could he? How could he just stand there and flirt with her when I...when I...when I what? What was it that was making me so angry? Why did it bother me when she talked to another ellon? And most importantly, why is she always in my mind? My thoughts were interrupted when Feren came in the room.

"Ah Lord Legolas, I didn't know you were here, did you need something?" he asked.

I looked at him and then shaked my head no. "No I'm fine. So who were you talking too?"

"Oh just Angelica." I hated how casual his voice sounded, as if he talked to her everyday. Or did he?

"What did you talk about?"

"Oh nothing of great importance, she was just going to see the sun set."

I nodded, "Very well then. Could you check this to make sure everything is in order?"

"Of course my lord."

I nodded and walked out. I was heading to my room that overlooked her favorite spot to go ever since she was a child. I reached my room and headed to my balcony. There she was, climbing up her tree to reach a flatter part. When she reached it she stood up on it, looking off into the red and orange glow that was coming from the setting sun. She looked beautiful as her hair was blown over her shoulder by the breeze and in the sunlight her hair shined and looked like it was gold. I had to figure out what it was about her that made me want to get up and see her brown eyes every morning, what made me want to spend every second of the day with her.
