they say justice is blind

and our hands are tied

while they rip our 

liberty from our lives

they say children are our

future and indeed they are.

they are rising above

the tyranny they have

read, watched, learned

but the children cannot rise

 from these metal cages,

from these fear-riddled streets,

from the strife in the wake of the storm,

from the statistics you have forced them

to become.

it is your right

to defend justice

coveted and glorious as it was

on every battle you have waged 

in the name of liberty,

freedom, humanity,

peace.

is is our right to

stand up, speak out

against the lies

and the injustice

fed to us every day as truth.

justice is blind because

YOU 

have blinded her,

holding her hostage 

so she cannot render 

your inhumanity obsolete

but justice belongs in 

the hearts of the people

who have the ability and responsibility

to rise

justice has been silenced

but the children are coming to set her free.
