"Are you sure you really wanna go to this fancy school? Can't you just go to the same collage as april so we can be closer?" Leo's voice was a distant memory but one that replayed in your head constantly. (After all it was the last time you saw him in person for months.)
You frowned a little standing in the alleyway just outside the airport. You didn't want to travel a state over but you knew you had to for your collage of choice. You were lucky enough to get accepted. (So you could pursue your dream career.) it's just hard to leave your boyfriend behind.
"It doesn't work like that leo," you shook your head clutching your bags, "I wish you could come with me instead."
Leo hand his hands on his hips, then raised one to rub the nape of his neck unable to make eye contact with you.
"I-I don't think I can leave New York." He sounded so quite. You knew why. He had a lot of responsibility now that he didn't take seriously yet. It was still a lot on his mind and the way he coped was acting as if it was still just fun and games.
"I know." You muttered softly, voice drifting away in the wind. This was a temporary goodbye.
"Okay, okay let's compromise." Leo held his hands out as he spoke.
"We call each other everyday. Keep each other updated on what's been happening and plan for at least video dates."
You smiled at his attempt. But long distance relationships were always hard to manage. But you had a feeling the two of you could do it. Some how you had a feeling.
"Sounds good to me. Can't wait to get the camera snatched away by your brothers mid conversation." You laughed a little at the thought of the other three brothers trying to snatch the phone away from Leo when ever the two of you talk.
"Very funny, like I'll let that happen." Leo pouted slightly.
You had to keep an eye on the time you can't miss your flight. You glanced at your phone after pulling it from your pocket, turning to look out at the street watching the traffic into the airport get thick.
"You have to go now don't you." Leo's voice was deep in a solum nature. A rare sound from the red eared slider, especially when all he's ever sounded was laid back. You looked back at him, phone now stuffed in your pocket, nodding slowly.
"I'm going to miss you." You gasped gently rushing to envelop him in one last hug.
Leo gladly accepted holding your tightly not wanting to let you go. His lips peppered your neck in gentle kisses, a habit you've noticed through dating him that was his way of silently saying he loves you.
You just nuzzled into his shoulder holding on tightly. After everything the two of you have been through this really felt like the end. Part of you felt as though this goodbye was the last time you both would ever see each other and the other had hope. Hope that the two of you could make it work.
Pulling away partially the two of you looked at one another deeply. Unable to tear your gaze away from the other until finally leaning in for that much desired kiss.
A memory that played inside your head everyday of every month you spent at your new school.
Like Leo said he would try, the two of you talked every night. Nothing special just late night phone conversations. Sometimes it was while he was fighting. Sometimes it was while you were doing home worth. Others the two of you were just alone in your rooms.
You laid one night on your stomach holding a pillow close as you gazed at the phone listening to leo talk.
"You should have seen it! I mean this guy- he was huge! Ginormous!" Leo was laid on his back, arm behind his head as the other one held his phone up over his face as he talked to you.
"I'm kind of glad I wasn't. Sounds like a real pain in the ass." You snickered a little hiding your face in your pillow feeling his intense gaze even through the screen.
Leo smiled softly, sighing just as gently at the sound of your snickering.
"I wish you were here instead of at that school." Leo sounded almost quite.
"I miss you."
"I know," you frowned a little into your pillow, "I miss you too."
"Hmm how much?" Leo smirked a little.
"Um you know a decent amount." You shrugged pretending not to give it much thought. Even if that was far from the truth.
"Aw come on! You don't miss your boyfriend more than just a decent amount?" Leo whined sitting up fully crossing his legs.
"Can't say that I do." You suppressed another snicker.
"I'm hanging up the phone, Nope I will not take this boyfriend slander." Leo acted as if he was going to hang up eliciting a whine from you.
"No! No I was teasing!" You drew out the words like a little kid laughing fully.
This was mostly how the phone calls went. Just normal. Sometimes like he said you two would share a date over the phone. But there wasn't very much to do when the two of you weren't together.
Mostly watching awful movies and making fun of them were the best of the date nights.
You're not sure how much longer you could take being away from him. School was important and you wanted your degree, but you also wanted to see your red eared slider. He was trying so hard to be patient and wait for you but everyday you could see it on his face. He missed you so much.
He acted like it didn't bother him all that much being apart from you, but you knew better. He was lonely. You had to see him.
So you finally took the plunge. The fall break for the semester was within the next week, you were going to spend the whole week with him and if you were lucky his brothers could hide the surprise from him.
You were going to see Leo if it's the last thing you do.
____________________________
Leo wasn't ever a fan of romance movies. He thought they were cheesy and over rated. After all how could a guy be that into some girl?
But after being away from you for so long with you being off at collage now he understood. He was crazy in love with you. Even if the two of you hadn't ever said I love you to one another yet he knew exactly how he felt.
He never said anything about it. Never mentioned that he was just that hopelessly in love with you that it took you moving away for him to realize just how much of the one you were to him. He just couldn't.
You seemed so happy over there. He didn't want to admit it but he felt like he was tying you down. Keeping you from your new life. You sounded so happy talking about your new friends at collage and all the things you all would get up to. But Leo knew he was being selfish even if he thought he was tying you down. He just couldn't let you go.
It didn't take a genius to know leo was lonely. His brothers all noticed the way he moped around since the day you left. He just wasn't the same.
So when the whole family had gotten your messages saying you were coming down for the break to surprise leo they all pledged to keep it a secret and help plan.
Leo noticed that something was up naturally. His brothers were avoiding him whispering in secret and smiling to themselves when ever they thought he wasn't looking. (But he's always watching. That was something people never seem to realize was a side of leo. He was more observant than he acted.)
"WHY am I blind folded again guys?" Leo groaned as he felt his brothers push him forward making him walk up a few flights of stairs, a few days had passed by now. His brothers odd behavior only worsened and of course led him to this moment.
"Uh-because-uh- why again fellas?" Raph was the one guiding leo up the stairs pushing him forward while Mikey ran ahead to check on something. Donnie staggering behind sluggishly.
"Because, this is another one of raph's team building exercises. I'm going with that one yes." Donnie nodded to himself sure of his answer.
"Yeah! If you're gonna take your role as leader seriously you Uh gotta learn to trust your team! Yeah!" Raph smiled widely pushing leo forward ignoring the fact he almost tripped.
"So blindfolding me and making me walk up a bunch of stairs in an old building is a team building exercises? Yeah right." Leo scoffed hearing a door open at the top.
"Relax leo! It's all apart of the fun!" Mikey chirped, opening the door wider to let Leo walk forward. His brothers lingering behind him as he staggered forward.
"yeah this sounds like so much fun. Being up on an abandoned buildings roof. You guys are going to kill me aren't you?! This was Donnie's idea wasn't it. Is it because I broke his last invention? I said it was an accident!" Leo shouted about to rip the blindfold off in panic.
"You what?!" Donnie was shoved back from the door by raph trying to keep him away from the scene as the door shut.
"Um, last I checked I don't think Im D." Your voice rung through the air, causing Leo to stiffen up.
"(Y/N)?" His voice wavered and now it was a real fight to take the blindfold off. Leo's eyes squinted at the sudden light but quickly adjusted.
It really was you. God you were breath taking up here. What was all this?
"Surprise." You smiled brushing your hair behind your ear.
"W-what's going on?" Leo stepped forward hesitantly. He almost didn't believe you were real.
"Well um," you looked away embarrassed, "I missed you a lot. So I asked your brothers to help me keep it a secret from you that I was coming up here to visit so I could surprise you with a date."
Leo blinked a bit taking in everything. You really meant that? His eyes slid around looking at the work you had put into decorating. The roof was littered with fairy lights that danced in the wind as the occasional gust blew threw. He could hear faint music now. (Not that it mattered but to you it did.)
You had set up a table littering it with candles, as well as pizza sitting there for the two of you to share. It was perfect. Just the two of you together at last after being apart for so long grabbing a slice.
Leo laughed unable to contain his giddiness. He couldn't believe it.
"Oh you beautiful person you!" Leo shouted out happily rushing forward to crush you in a hug making you laugh with him. His lips peppered all over your face making you laugh with joy.
The two of you really missed one another so much. Neither of you wanted to pull apart finally at home where you needed to be.
Leo was so ecstatic his lips didn't cease in their attacks, finding any exposed part of your skin he could get to and smothering it in quick kisses. Enough that it continued to make you giggle as if he was tickling you.
"Leo!" You couldn't help but cry out.
"Leo! Stop!"
You whined and wiggled in his grasp but he was relentless he wasn't about to let you go so quickly.
"Never!" He shouted nuzzling into you.
"You're now my prisoner."
"Well can your prisoner at least share a pizza with their captor before it gets cold?" You laughed right into his ear sending shivers down his spine.
"Hmm let me think about it," Leo faked thinking as he slowly released you still holding your hands in his, "I've thought about it and I think I can allow that."
"Good." You stole a quick kiss from him with the biggest grin he's seen on your face in months. (And he was the cause of that.)
Leo pulled you forward to the table unable to stop himself from smiling as the two of you sat side by side instead of across from one another beginning to munch on the pizza. You leaned your head on his shoulder as he ranted about how much he missed you happy that you went through all this effort for him. You just laughed and chimed in occasionally.
"Welcome back home (Y/N), I really am glad you're back." Leo hummed finally nuzzling into you as the two of you cuddled a bit in your chairs.
"You know I think I'm going to stay in New York for a while longer." You muttered sleepily.
"I love you Leo."
You closed your eyes leaving Leo choking on his breath. Did you really say that? You were fast asleep by the time it finally sunk in for Leo. Still that didn't stop him from nuzzling into you.
"I love you too, (Y/N)."
