Chapter 8

Grace walked back towards the dorms, her mind lingered on what happened a few minutes ago. She smiled as she remembered James' shocked face, it was the most fun she had in awhile. But her smile vanished as she remembered what she was supposed to do, her mission.

She stopped dead in her tracks when she heard voices. "It was here yesterday! I can't believe I lost it."

"Are you sure you looked everywhere?"

The voices undoubtedly belonged to two girls. Grace quietly walked towards the voices and peeked the corridor. She saw the two girls, one of them had dark brown hair and a light green dress but Grace wasn't able to see her face. But Grace was able to see the face of the second girl, who had a blond hair that was braided in a French braidֲ and bright green eyes. She was wearing silver high heel sandals, a purple Mid-length sleeveless dress with a small key on its black belt, aֲ lilac shrug, and a long pearl necklace.ֲ

"Wait, maybe it's in my locker? Or in my dorm? Or I really lost it?" The blond haired girl said nervously.

"Calm down Anxelin, we will find it," The brunette girl tried to calm down her friend. Grace's eyes widened and she focused her attention on Anxelin.ֲ

"Fine," Anxelin muttered and then she walked away with her friend. Grace was more than glad to know who was Anxelin. It made her mission a little bit easier, at least now she knew who was the person she had to steal the golden flower's power from.

As Grace entered her room she was more than surprised to see Jane, but she was also surprised to see Jane's hair wasn't short brown hair anymore but it was long curly brown hair.ֲ

"What are you doing here? And what happened to your hair?" Grace asked in confusion, walking towards her bed. Just a few hours ago, Jane was terrified to be close to the five descendants, so what had changed?

"Isn't it great? Mal did it for me! It's so nice of her." Jane said excitedly, turning to Grace and ignoring her first question.

"She did?" Grace asked with a frown. It was very unlikely Mal would do something like that. She was evil, not nice. But when Mal stopped drawing and sent her a smug smirk Grace knew what was going on. Mal was using Jane to get Fairy Godmother's wand.

"Yeah!"

"Anyway, where were you, G?" Grace turned her attention to Evie, who at her desk, sewing a dress.

"I went to Carlos' practice," Grace replied, laying on her bed.ֲ

"Wasn't James training him?" Jane asked.ֲ

"Yeah," Grace replied dryly, starting to play with the bracelet she had taken from Jay again.ֲ

"He is so dreamy! Too bad he's out of my league, I'm not pretty enough." Jane started to complain and was pacing the room. "Mom said, 'If a boy can't see the beauty within, then he's not worth it.' Can you believe that! What world does she live in?"

Mal scoffed "Auradon."ֲ

"Hey, Mal, Grace, do you like it?" Evie asked, holding up the dress she was sewing.ֲ

Mal looked up from her book and Grace stopped playing with the bracelet.

"It's cute," Grace replied simply.

ֲ "Yeah. Brings out your eyes." Mal added, before continuing drawing in her notebook.

"I know," Evie said, smiling.

"I'll never get a boyfriend." Jane continued to complain and leaned against Mal's bedpost.ֲ

"Boyfriends are overrated," Mal told her.

"And how would you know Mal? You've never had one." Grace teased, smirking at Mal.

"It's cause I don't need one, Grace," Mal replied. "and besides, you haven't had one either." Grace only shrugged before she started to play with the bracelet again. She used to have a few 'admirers' back on the Isle of Lost but none of them had caught her attention.

"They are waste of time," Mal added.

Suddenly Evie gasped and got up from her table. "I forgot to do Chad's homework! Oh no, no, no, no. no." She said, walking towards the nightstand, taking a bag and carrying it to her table.

"And that is exactly what I'm talking about," Mal said.

Before Grace could protest a girl had knocked the door and entered the room. The girl had short black hair and bangs, she was wearing a salmon floral shirt, and a short light blue skirt. "Hi guys, I'm Lonnie." The girl greeted but Evie, Mal, and Grace simply stared at the girl blankly, not saying anything. "My mom's Mulan?" The girl said but the three continued to look at her. Evie took out Chad's notebook and dropped his bag with a bang, almost ignoring the Asian girl's presence.

"No? Anyways, I love what you did with Jane's hair. And I know you hate us and well, you're evil." Lonnie said and both Grace and Mal smirked.

"You got that right," Grace said, getting up from her bed.

ֲ "But do you think you could do mine?" Lonnie continued, playing with her hair.

Mal looked up at her sharply. "Why would I do that for you?"

She held up a little pouch, "I'll pay you fifty dollars." Lonnie answered.

Evie-suddenlyֲ interested- turned to Lonnie and snatched the pouch from Lonnie. "Good answer." She said, getting up from her table. "I need to buy more material. Let's see, I'm thinking we lose the bangs, maybe some layers, maybe some highlights." Evie said, examining Lonnie's hair.

"Oh, no. I want it cool. Like Mal's." Lonnie said, gesturing to the purple haired girl.

ֲ "Really? Split ends too?" Evie teased and Mal glared at her. Evie shook the money pouch and Mal growled but rolled off the bed and reached for her spell book. She flipped through the pages until she found the spell she needed.ֲ

"Beware, forswear, replace the old with cool hair." Mal shut the book swishing her pointer finger side to side, then up and down. Lonnie's head went down and when she looked up, her short dark hair was replaced with beautiful, thick brown locks.ֲ

Lonnie touched her hair and walked towards the mirror. Evie walked up behind her. "I know, I know. It looks like a mop on your head. I'll tell you what, we'll chop it off, add some layers-"

Evie started but Lonnie cut her off "No, no, no. I love it." She said, smiling widely.

"You do?" Evie asked, surprised, but she tried covering her surprised look with a blank look.

"It's just..." Lonnie trailed. She bent down a little, grabbed the bottom of her skirt and ripped a slit in it. "There. Now I'm cool." Jane's eyes widened.

"Like ice," Mal said, smirking slightly as Jane walked towards Lonnie and looked in the mirror. Jane reached down and ripped a slit in the bottom of her dress.

She covered her mouth with her hands in shock "What did I just do?" She asked, staring at the mirror with horror. "My mom is going to kill me!" Jane exclaimed while the girls tried to hold their laugher.

After Lonnie and Jane had left Carlos entered the girls' room, holding his laptop. "Hey guys," Carlos said, sitting on Grace's bed, leaving the door open.

"Hey, Carlos." Grace began to say "Where is Dud-" Before Grace was able to finish her question Dude burst into the room, jumping on Grace's bed, and sitting between Carlos and Grace. "Never mind..."

"I think I'm going keep him. He is... He is a good boy." Carlos said, smiling as he petted Dude's head. Grace felt something weird when she saw Carlos smiling like that. It wasn't an evil smile or a smirk, it was a smile, a real smile. She had never seen him so... Happy.

"Is that..." Evie's voice snapped Grace out of her thoughts. She looked over to Mal and Evie, who had a shocked looks over their face.

"A dog?" Mal finished Evie's question.

"Yeah. Mal, Evie, meet Dude. He's the campus mutt." Carlos said, still patting Dude. Dude jumped off Grace's bed and walked towards Mal and Evie, excited to see new people. He sat on the floor, next to Mal's bed and Carlos got up and sat beside him.

"And to think that only yesterday he told us that dogs are vicious, rabid pack animals who eat boys that don't behave," Evie said while looking into her Magic Mirror for the answers to Chad's homework.

Grace got up from her bed and walked towards the door. "Just to be clear, I'm not gonna clean after him," Grace said and gestured to the opened door. "It's your job to let the dog out."

Carlos rolled his eyed and started typing something on his laptop. "Oh, by the way," Carlos looked at Grace "I saw James on the way here, he was completely wet. Do you have something to do with it?"

"Maybe..." Grace said slyly, closing the door.

"Don't mass with Grace," Mal said, grabbing her spell book.

"I can't argue with that..." Carlos muttered.

Suddenly Evie laughed. "What's so funny?" Grace asked Evie.

"Nothing, just...It seems like James really caught your attention," Evie said, looking very amused.

"Well he basically bumped into me, I can't ignore it," Grace replied, laying on her bed again.

"I don't think that's what she meant," Mal said, suddenly looking also amused as she was flipping page after page through her mother's spell book.

"What..." Grace didn't understand what they were talking about, but when she did her eyes widened, then she rolled her eyes and groaned. "You must be crazy if you think I like James."

"Relax, we're just teasing you," Evie said and Grace scoffed.

It wasn't long before Jay entered the room, smiling widely and showing off his new tourney jersey. Carlos wolf-whistled at Jay and Jay walked over to Mal's bed, holding onto one of the bed's poles. "Did your plan work with Jane? You going over to see the wand?" Jay asked Mal, who glared at him in return.

"Oh, someone's in a bad mood," Carlos muttered.

"My mom is counting on me," Mal defended herself. "I can't let her down." She hit Carlos' head.

"You're not the only one," Grace muttered, but only Carlos heard her. He sent her a confused look but she just shook her head and looked away.

"We can do this!" Jay said loudly. The other four descendants turned their attention to him. "If we stick together." He continued, this time calmer. The four stared at him. Just a day ago he and his father had said that "There is no 'team' in 'I'" but after a while in Auradon things were already different. Auradon was changing them, there was no doubt.

"And we won't go back until we do," Mal said. "'Cause we're rotten."

"To the core," Jay, Grace, Evie and Carlos chorused together.

"Oh yeah, I found out that fairy Godmother blesses Ben with the wand at the coronation and we all get to go," Evie said, casually, waving her pen around. "I have nothing to wear, of course." She sighed sadly.

Grace stared at her, her mouth half-opened. There was a knock on the door. "What?" Evie said as she saw the looks everybody was giving her.

"Hold that thought," Mal ordered. She closed her spell book, leaving it on her bed, got off her bed and walked towards the door.

Mal opened the door to reveal Ben, smiling warmly. "Hey, Mal. I didn't see you guys today. I was just wondering if you had any questions or anything that you needed?" Ben said.

"Not that I know of," Mal said, looking back at her friends who only shrugged and shook their heads.

"Okay...alright...well, uh if you need anything just feel free to uh," He said awkwardly, starting to walk away.

"Oh, wait," Mal called out. Ben stopped and walked back to the doorway. "Is it true that we all get to go to your coronation?" She asked.

Ben smiled, "Yeah the whole school goes."

"Wow, that is beyond exciting," Mal said, playing with her hair as Ben's smile widened. "Do you think it's a possibility that the five of us could stand in the front row next to the Fairy Godmother just so we could," Mal breathed in heavily, "soak up all that goodness?"

Ben's smile faltered and he looked a bit disappointed. "I wish you could. Up front, it's just me, my folks, James, his date, and my girlfriend."

Mal nodded slowly "And you girlfriend," she repeated.

Ben smiled at her apologetically "Yeah, I'm sorry."

Mal suddenly smiled "Okay, thanks, bye." Mal started closing the door.

"Oh, but there's plenty of—" he began to say but he was cut off by Mal shutting the door in his face.

Mal turned around and smiled mischievously at her friends "I think it's time that Bennyboo, got himself a new girlfriend. And I need a love spell." She clapped her hands, and Carlos tossed her the spell book.

"And maybe we could find James a date, too," Mal suggested with a smirk, which earned her a glare from Grace.
