Chapter 4
As they got further away from Maleficent's castle, Grace took the opportunity and looked around her. Just then she noticed she was sitting between Evie and Jay. Grace's eyes widened when she saw sugary refreshments that were inside the limousine. Jay and Carlos started fighting over the sweets and Grace quickly regretted sitting next to Jay.
She sighed loudly and closed her eyes, ignoring the noise her friends made and trying to focus her mind on one thing; How to get Anxelin's power. Something soft caressed Grace's cheeks and Grace fluttered her eyes open. Evie was stroking her makeup brush against Grace's cheeks.
"What are you doing?" Grace asked, confused. Her mind was no longer focused on the task her mother had given her but on the dark blue haired girl that was sitting next to her.
"You looked a little washed out, so I helped you." Evie replied happily.
"Umm, thanks... I guess." Grace said, even more confused.
Evie grabbed something from her bag, "How about a red lipstick?" She asked, holding out lipstick.
"No, no!" Grace quickly said, "I'm alright. No more makeup," Grace pursed her lips to a thin line.
Evie sighed in disappointment but kept eating her blue, rock candy. Grace carefully took a red, heart-shaped candy. She took a bite of it and enjoyed the sweet taste of the candy. She smirked to herself when she saw that the shape of the candy was no longer a heart but a broken heart.
"Oh, these." Carlos suddenly said, his mouth full of sweets, "It's salty like nuts but sweet like I don't know what."
"Let me see." Jay said. Carlos opened his mouth wide to show off half chewed food, making Grace grimaced in disgust and Jay hit him. Ripping it from his hands, Jay popped it in his own mouth and made a sound of delight.
"You two are eating like animals," Grace said, and the two boys looked at her.
"Can you blame us? These are amazing. Here, try one." Carlos said before Grace could do something, Carlos has been pushed unknown candy into Grace's mouth. Grace shrieked in surprise but it is quickly replaced by the sound of joy when she realized how tasty was this unknown candy.
"That's so good." Grace said as she finished eating. Carlos pointed to her, as if to agree with her.
Evie then shouted, "Look!" Turning to the side windows, Grace saw the were driving towards the dome and right to a cliff!
"It's a trap!" Carlos screamed. The five descendants hold tightly onto each other, they all screamed loudly, bracing themselves for the impact to come. They drove through the dome and waited, but nothing happened.
The five stopped screaming only to find that they were not falling, but driving on a magical golden bridge that appeared in front of them. "Woah..." Grace whispered, amazed.
"Uh, what just happened?" Carlos asked as the five released themselves from their tight huddle, and looked out the window. Grace was surprised to see that they were riding on a shimmering golden road.
"It must be magic!" Evie said, smiling excitedly.
Grace soon realized that she was still holding tightly onto Jay's well-built upper arm, and he was holding onto her. It seemed like Jay realized it as well because they both let go of each other quickly. "I won't tell about it to anyone if you don't." Grace said.
"Deal." Jay agreed.
Mal turned to around, trying to get the Driver's attention. "Hey!" She tapped the remote on the side. The driver looked into the mirror to look at her. "Did this little button just open up the magic barrier?"
"Nope. This one opens the magic barrier," The Driver answered, holding up a similar looking remote. "That opens my garage. And this button." He began but never finished the sentence because the divider had gone back up, separating the driver from the five.
"Okay," Grace said, slightly impressed. "Nasty."
"I like that guy," Mal agreed, smiling.
The limo finally passed over the water, and Grace was more than glad to be back on land. They kept driving through Auradon, passing a sign that said "Welcome to Auradon Prep. Goodness doesn't get any better." Grace rolled her eyes at the cheesiness of the stupid sign.
Finally, the limo pulled into a quad, where there were signs that read, 'WELCOME!', students waving flags, and even the marching band was playing.
The door to the limousine opened, and Carlos fell to the ground with a tight grip on a piece of cloth. Jay stumbled out after him, the other side of the cloth gripped in his hand. He put his foot on Carlos' chest, pulling the cloth up to his level. The marching band stopped playing, and backed away from the bickering villains.
"You get everything else! Why do you want whatever this is!?" Carlos demanded in frustration.
"Because you want it!" Jay replied through gritted teeth, as he was trying with all his might to pull the piece of cloth away from Carlos. As the boys fought, the three girls slipped out. First Evie, then Grace, and lastly Mal.
"Guys, guys, guys," Mal whispered frantically. "We have an audience."
Both boys stopped fighting and looked up to see a middle aged looking women, walking towards them. Grace tried their best to look presentable, putting her hands on her hips and smiling a fake smile.
Jay spit out a piece of candy that he had been holding in his teeth. "Just, cleaning up." He lowered his hand and grabbed a hold of Carlos' hand. "Get up," he muttered.
"Leave it like you found it," the woman said in almost a singing manner. "And by that, I mean just leave it." Jay threw back the stuff he had taken from the limousine.
Jay looked over, where two other teens stood with the lady. He automatically walked over to the pretty looking girl.
"Hello, foxy." Jay said flirtatiously, stepping around "The name's Jay." He flashed her one of his most charming smiles.
The girl laughed uncomfortably at Jay's flirting. Grace bit her lip, trying not burst in laughter at the girl's expression.
The woman decided then to take control of the situation. "Welcome to Auradon Prep," she said, stepping between Jay and the girl. Jay's smile faltered and he stepped back next to Grace and Carlos. "I'm Fairy Godmother, Headmistress," she said, curtsying.
"The Fairy Godmother?" Grace asked. "As in Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo?" Grace pretended to wave a wand.
"Bibbidi Bobbidi, you know it," Fairy Godmother answered with a smiled.
"Yeah," Mal said. "I always wondered what it felt like for Cinderella when you just appeared out of nowhere. With that sparkly wand and warm smile." Mal clapped her hands together "And that sparkly wand."
"That was a long time ago. And as I always say don't focus on the past or you'll miss the future!" Fairy Godmother said dramatically, waving her hands around.
"It's so good to finally meet you all," the boy who was standing next to Fairy Godmother said, stepping forward. "I'm Ben."
"Prince Benjamin," The girl Jay had been flirting with earlier corrected him. "Soon to be King."
"You had me at Prince," Evie said dreamily, stepping forward. "My mom's a queen, which makes me a princess." Evie curtsied to Ben.
The brunette girl shook her head and spoke up again. "The Evil Queen has no royal status here. And neither do you." She said. Evie's smile faltered, and she took a step back, but not before glaring at the girl. Grace frowned and narrowed her eyes at the girl. She had only known this girl for less than 2 minutes, but she already found herself disliking her.
"This is Audrey," Ben said awkwardly, introducing the girl with him.
"Princess Audrey," she reminded him, taking his hand in her own. "His girlfriend. Right, Benny Boo?"
"Ben and Audrey are gonna show you all around and I'll see you tomorrow," Fairy Godmother said in a sincere tone. The Headmistress dramatically broke apart Ben and Audrey's hands. "The doors of wisdom are never shut! But the library hours are from 8 to 11. As you may have heard we have a little thing about curfews." And with that, the Headmistress left with the Marching Band following behind her.
There was an awkward silence among the seven teens after she left. Finally, Ben took his chance to greet the descendants. He approached them as confidently as he could, but inside, he was shaking.
"It's so good to finally meet—" He went to shake Jay's hand, but Jay stopped him by giving him a fist in the chest. "You all." Ben gave him a grin instead, and Jay smiled a mischievous smile.
He shook Mal's hand next, and took a brief moment to study her face, before continuing down the line. "This is a momentous occasion. And one that I hope will go down in history."
He shook Grace's hand and nodded and smiled before approaching Carlos.
After shaking Carlos' hand, he brought it right back up, noticing the smell on his hand. "Chocolate?"
He shook Evie's hand and smiled. "As the day our two peoples began to heal."
"Or the day that you showed five peoples where the bathrooms are." Mal said.
Ben couldn't help but chuckle and smiled at Mal. "A little bit over the top?"
"More than a little," Mal said.
"Well, so much for my first impression," Ben replied. The two laughed together but then Audrey decided to cut in and face the purple haired girl.
"Hey, you're Maleficent's daughter, aren't you? Yeah, you know what? I totally do not blame you for your mother trying to kill my parents and stuff." Audrey said, a fake smile plastered on her face. "Oh, my mom's Aurora. Sleeping Beauty."
Mal took a deep breath before speaking. "Yeah, I've heard the name. And I totally do not blame your grandparents for inviting everyone in the whole world, but my mother, to their stupid christening."
"Water under the bridge?" Audrey suggested
"Totes!" Mal said and the two shared a loud, fake laugh before it died down.
Ben clapped his hands, trying to stop the tension "Okay. How about a tour?" The five descendants didn't object so he started the tour. "Auradon Prep. Originally built over three hundred years ago." Ben started walking while Mal looked at Grace and gave her a look, but Grace only shrugged motioned her to follow Ben. "And converted into a high school by my father when he became king."
Ben led them through a garden. It had hedges, topiary, flowers, and a large statue right in the middle of King Beast himself.
Ben clapped his hands and the human statue morphed into a beastly one. Carlos screamed and jumped into Jay's arms.
"Grace couldn't help herself and she smirked at his reaction. "Carlos, it's okay," Ben tried to calm Carlos down. "My father wanted his statue to morph from Beast to Man. To remind us that anything is possible."
Grace looked up again, wondering how the statue morphed like that. But then she remembered. Magic. It was still hard to get used to all this magic thing and the fact that they really in Auradon and not the Isle.
"Does he shed much?" Mal joked.
"Yeah, my mom won't let him on the couch," Ben said, a serious look on his face. Mal furrowed her brow and gave him a wry smile.
Grace glanced again at Carlos and then she turned around, only to collide with something. She lost her balance and fell backward to the ground.
"Ouch." Grace muttered, opening her eyes.
For a second, she had thought she had bumped into Ben, but from a second glance she was almost shocked to see a boy that looked very similar to Ben, but he wasn't Ben.
The boy quickly stood up and held his hand out to Grace. Grace wanted to shoo his hand away but then she remembered, she had to be 'polite'. She took his hand and he helped her to get up.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there." The boy said. Grace cleaned her clothes from the dust.
"Well, yeah, remind me next time to take off my invisible charm, so people like you won't be able to knock me down to the ground." Grace snorted sarcastically. Okay, maybe she was supposed to be polite but that doesn't mean she wanted to.
The boy ignored what she said and asked. "Are you okay, Princess..." The boy trailed off, not knowing the name of the girl he'd bumped into.
"And what makes you think I'm a princess?" Grace asked, frowning.
"Well, almost anyone from here is from a royal family." The boy said, smiling slightly.
"But what if I'm not from here?" Grace challenged, putting her hand on her hips. The boy's smile faltered and he looked at Ben in confusion. Something seemed to click in the boy's mind but before he could say or do anything Ben cut him off.
"This is James, my twin brother. And he's late." Ben said awkwardly and James smiled a shy smile.
Grace scoffed "Obviously."
"I apologize for my behavior, I forgot you were supposed to come today." James awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. "I just did not expect someone like you would be from the Isle of Lost."
"Then what did you expect?" Grace snapped, glaring daggers at James. If that was how people in Auradon usually act, then Grace disliked it even more now, "A three-headed monsters that would destroy everything? Sorry to disappoint you,"
"N-no I didn't mean it like that I-" James started to say but Grace simply walked past him toward Ben.
"Mind if we continue our tour?" Grace asked Ben sweetly and Ben just nodded, a little shocked from Grace's behavior. That was definitely a day Grace wouldn't forget so easily.
